If you wore previous trail gloves and loved them, don't buy these.
Boss: Hey you know that popular line we have, trail glove?Employee: Yea?Boss: Let's put in a ridiculously high arch support and make that baby a full size bigger than labeled.Employee: Why? People love the line the way it is.Boss: Don't question my genius.

Disappointed
Super disappointed in this model. Was easily a 1/2 size larger than the 9.5 4’s I have and love. The colors are bad and the shoes are shiny. Honestly, these looked like they belonged on an 80’s toy figurine. The mid-sole feels lumpy in weird way that the 4’s didn't (did they put an orthotic in a barefoot shoe?!?) The soles don’t feel as flexible to me as well. meh...Thought I was getting a rad new pair of trail gloves and I ended up with shiny green clown shoes. Boo. Back for refund and a new pair of the 4’s I guess.

Not just disappointing— DANGEROUS
First off, the trail glove 4 has been my go to running shoe for the past year and a half now. I’ve happily dished out $300 for the 4 pairs I’ve worn out in that time. That being said, they weren’t perfect, and I was looking forward to the design improvements the 5 was supposed to bring to the table. To name a few: 1. Reinforced forefoot flex points 2. Wider toe box 3. Updated, more durable tread design. Not to mention the burnt henna color is beautiful. Anyways... I ordered them a half size smaller than usual, as that’s what some other reviews and Merrell suggested. They arrived a few hours ago, I put them on, and despite them still feeling too large, I convinced myself “hey, they’re the experts. If they say this will be better for my feet, alright.” WRONG.Should have gone with my gut then and returned them. Instead, I headed to my favorite trail, a moderately steep loop up and down a mountain. I just got back home, and let me tell you, whoever was in charge of sizing should be fired. These shoes are DANGEROUS. All 4 pairs of my trail glove 4’s were consistently sized and fit my 10.5 feet like a glove... y’know, how you’d expect a shoe named the trailGLOVE would fit. These, in size 10, left my feet absolutely swimming. I’m a forefoot runner, and had to cut my run short at half my usual distance due to the fact I was starting to get blisters, and my ankles rolled 3 times due to the incredibly oversized fit. Now, I’m returning them and getting a full size smaller than my usual, all because some designer got it in their heads that looser=better. Seriously, fire ‘em. If they’d done any testing with people who actually run downhill on technical terrain on which you have to be confident in your footing, they’d have realized they messed up, but I guess they skipped that stage. So, if you’re ordering these, SERIOUSLY, go a full size down. If not, don’t be surprised if you wind up with a twisted ankle or worse.

What's up with that arch?
Never wore any Trail Glove before. Wanted something to replace my Vibram Five Fingers that look a little more normal. They do run big. I wear a 9wide (or about 41) normally and an 8.5 in these wouldve been perfect. Biggest problem was the super high arch in the shoe. Why does a minimalist need a high arch like that? It seems counterintuitive and silly. I put them on and in 45 seconds decided they had to go back. Oh well. Guess I'll be keeping my hipster toe shoes.

Perfect shoe for high arched, wide toed, skinny heeled runners.
Order a half size smaller! I did and they fit perfectly. Read a lot of negative reviews on the TG5, but did the research before pulling the trigger on these bad boys. THEY ARE NOT DESIGNED FOR PEOPLE WITH LOW ARCHES! I have really high arches (pes cavus) and these shoes fit the bottom of my soles like a glove. I have skinny heels and toes that spread out like flippers. If your feet are anything like mine (wide toes / skinny heels) ; these are a godsend! As soon as I laced them up and walked around in them I was amazed to find that they were the most comfortable things I’ve ever put on my feet. Bunion pain (from wearing cramped toe boxes my entire life), and heel blisters (from my heels moving around) are a thing if the past. I’ve never been a “heel striker” when running, and have tried numerous zero drop minimalist shoes. For the aforementioned foot type, and if you are a “forefoot / midfoot” runner...these baby’s are the bee's knees. I plan on ordering another pair just for walking around town in (they are that comfortable). 5 stars all the way.

Ridiculously narrow fit esp at the widest part of the foot.
Ridiculously narrow fit esp at the widest part of the foot. Who has feet that are a narrow rectangle? The shoe is both too long and too narrow at the wide part of your foot. The shoe is not wider where your foot is wide.Merrell has taken a stupid pill, because I have previously worn two pairs of the original minimalist trail glove that were zero drop - loved them for gym, running, trail, kayaking, water shoe, etc. -- perfect all purpose activity shoe for squeezing into a packed carry-on bag. They no longer make this shoe! Instead they have these silly designs which look good, seem to be well made but do not fit an average American male foot.I ordered four different Merrell models on Amazon other than this Trail Glove 5 Sneaker and this is true of all of them, although it's worst in this Trail Glove 5 Sneaker. So they no longer have a model that is like the old minimalist trail glove.

WoW! The arch support.
Read the reviews and know that they are accurate with regards to a few things,1. Arch support is like no other shoe I have tried.2. Toe box is roomy3. Very comfortable for those of us with arches.Size is spot on and Merrell seems to be consistent with size. Comfort is high for myself but I have high arches, so high that if my feet are wet and I stand on concrete my prints are two separate prints with a gap between the heel and toes.Time will tell the rest of the story.

Fantastic grip and comfort
I would rate these as the best trail running shoes I've ever owned, and I've gone through plenty in my time. I'm always searching for something that promotes good, efficient running style and the "barefoot" nature of the heel and arch support absolutely delivers. The grip from the soles is frankly amazing - gritty downhills, muddy bogs, stony lanes even rock scrambling are all catered for. Never slipped or had my confidence tested - these trail runners perform.I tend to run with SealSkinz socks so I can splash through rivers and mud without my feet getting wet. Combined with the Trail Glove 5 it's a match made in heaven. Lightweight and efficient at squeezing out the water my socks and shoes are mostly dry within 200 metres or so. This gives me the confidence to just have at the obstacle without worrying about picking my way around. In terms of sizing they can be a little tight with thicker socks (like the SealSkinz) so I opted for the next size up and found it to be perfect. I'm a UK 8/ EU 42 so went for the size 9. My feet swell during exercise and I've not experienced any issues with tightness or slippage.

Good fitting, bare foot trail shoe
Stepped up from my Vapor Glove 4 which I'd had for just over a year to the Trail Glove 5. Big difference - the 5 do offer some level of protection against stones and sharp debris, which the Vapor don't. Much better for my running which takes in roads, footpaths and other off road tracks. Still have the wide toe box, I'm a solid size 9 and I find a 9 fits me perfectly with space to give, no need to size up or down. Literally just finished my first 5K in them and very happy with the feel and protection they offer, whilst still remaining a barefoot running show.

Best jungle treking shoes I have ever owned
I wore these for three weeks whilst jungle trekking in Cambodia. Jungles a re full of rivers, rocks and mud. These coped perfectly, in fact their soft soles and fully permeable mesh front made them perfect for the environment. As soon as you waded through a river, the water would quickly drain through the mesh meaning then never 'squelched' and the soft rubber sole meant you always knew exactly where your feet were and the stability of the ground you were walking on. They would dry overnight or in a couple of hours in direct sunlight. Durability wise, they look pretty much like new after a pretty harsh three weeks. Super comfortable, lightweight, jungle friendly and excellent value for money. They would also slip on and off easily if laced up lightly which in Asia is always a good thing should you need to enter a house, temple or even some shops.

Returned- ridiculous arch support ruins them.
Pros: 1, They’re very light. 2, They fit accurately to size. 3, The heal is held very snugly and comfortably- this was impressive.Cons: 1, Very weird arch support- it isn’t where my arch is! (Unlike every other trainer I own). The arch starts too far back towards your heal, so you stand on it like a lump. Very unpleasant and uncomfortable to wear, even briefly.2, If you try to jog on your toes, the area at the bottom of the laces digs in to the top of your foot.3, They are ugly, honestly. Could have looked past this, but there’s no need for them to look so bad.Perhaps some people have an arch that isn’t is the regular position? If so, this may be the shoe for them! Having much arch support, even in the normal place, doesn’t seem right for a barefoot shoe regardless. A swing and a miss.

Great indoors, but dangerous when wet!
The trainer is great for indoor use around the gym and other similar activities. Durability of sole and the trainers upper sections have been fine so far and I imagine they’ll last a long time. However, the major let down with this model has been the grip in wet conditions. I have suffered multiple slips and falls on smooth wet stone surfaces, where the trainers sole will loose all grip resulting in a lot of near misses. Things don’t get much better on wet grassy surfaces, where I have often been caught out by the poor grip resulting in a few nasty falls whilst running. As a result, I’ve had to retire them from outdoor use because I find them unsafe in wet conditions.Since replacing my old trail glove version 3 with the version 5 variant, I have been very disappointed with the overall performance of the newer model. It’s a real shame because the large toe box and ergonomics have been great in both models, but until the issue with grip in wet conditions is resolved I’d give these a miss.

good shoes, hopefully now more durable
I've had several generations of these shoes and they all have been great for trail running, and even on tarmac once you are used to them. They are let down by the durability and design of the uppers with the fabric splitting long before the sole is worn. This version finally has the common-sense reinforcement from lace eyes to the sole to take the tension load, so I am hopeful they may last longer. The area where the toes flex doesn't look any better though.

Just what i was looking for!
I was looking for something much more "Foot shaped" than most shoes out on the market. These fit the bill perfectly! Extremely comfortable, nice and light with great grip on the trails!

Really great shoe but still prefer my 3’s which are/were just perfect.
Another great barefoot shoe from Merrell which can be worn most anywhere (unlike some other barefoot shoes) but I’m still in love with my 3 year old Trail Glove 3’s which still are perfect in every way.First impressions with the 5’s is good; they have a bigger toe box which allows more spread of the toes and feel almost sock like. They seem to offer slightly less feedback from the terrain than the previous 3’s but I assume this will improve wear. My wife says that the new orange is ‘more acceptable’ than the old burnt orange too. Robust feeling shoe so I hope that these last as well as my 3’s. Be warned that they are however a good half size too big - I was tempted to return them for a smaller pair but will give them a chance as a bigger toe box may be part of the oversized fit.

Quite narrow for a Merrell
I’ve only worn Merrell shoes for the past 10 years, with the exception of leather shoes when I rarely dress smart. I have wide feet and they are the best fit, but these ones were quite narrow, so sent them back.

I habe been wearing Trail Gloves for years, bang on with tthe sizing and still the most comfortable pair of shoes / trainers I own.One word of warning i have high arches, and i would imagine some may find the arch support a little larger than normal. When these onea wear out i will be buying another pair

Great Product
Bought this shoe as I was looking for a versatile barefoot-style shoe that I could use for trail running, gym, boxing etc. Safe to say it meets all my requirements in these activities.Good, durable sole makes it perfect for outdoor use, and its light weight makes it easy to keep in my gym bag and take to training.Whilst this shoe definitely has more of a barefoot feel than other types of trainer I've used before, I wouldn't overstate it. The sole has to be thick enough to deal with rough terrain, so there's a trade-off with the barefoot feel.I have quite wide feet, so was pleased to find that the shoe is quite comfortably sized to accommodate them. I'm a UK size 12 and the Merrell size 12 fits me perfectly.

Running the way God created!!
It took some getting use to as these are my first minimalist shoe and they are excellent. I don't think I will go back to using conventional running shoes as these gave me issues with my knees and ankles when running more than 3-miles. I have very very flat feet yet find them lightweight and extremely comfortable as if you're running on air. Plus, I even shaved off 12 minutes of my half marathon running time.
