Beginning App Development with Flutter: Create Cross-Platform Mobile Apps

A good starting point but getting dated
This book is a really good starting point for someone who has some experience. For complete beginners the lack of full code examples would probably be an issue, and some of the code isn't fully up to date with null safety but overall this is one of the best books on Flutter I have found.

Approachable useful fun read that opens up your brain to Flutter
I've been at this development thing a long time. I've got a lot of languages under my belt. But creating Android apps has always been a bit of a pain. Nothing against Java and Kotlin, but it's just a lot of work to get what you want on the screen. When I first heard about Flutter (after trying Xamarin, React Native and a brief look at Ionic) I was hopeful, but sceptical.I tried some of the online exercises and saw the value. Then I needed to make an application happen on an Android device NOW! Fortunately I came across this book.Rap's prose is accessible and palatable, but very direct and useful. A lot of the initial reads that I looked at were either VERY basic, or repetitive and dry. This book gets right to the point, but makes the information interesting and relevant. He covers more than just the basic "Hello World" stuff (OK, he covers that too) and hits the main points that you'll need to do useful work.Upshot...my app on the special Android device that was bedeviling me is now working and in a very short period of time.Flutter is useful. This book will get you up and running on Flutter without the feeling of slogging through the process. It's fun. It's useful. It's accessible. It will get you up and running on Flutter with as much speed and as little pain as is possible.

ok book
The book overall was a simple read. It gave me an understanding on how things worked. The issue I had was with the practicality of the examples. A chapter would talk about 10-15 features with code snippets but no full examples. Then at the end of the chapter, there would be an example that has all the features in it. This was difficult to try in practice as it was tedious to run that example. If would have been better if every feature included an full working example that one can build and practice. And build from there.

A HUGE time saver in learning Flutter!
I've been wanting to learn Flutter for a while now, I'm so glad I ran across this book! I've gone from zero to creating a legit internet enabled app very quickly thanks to this book.I really love the way the author walks you step by step through creating an app and understanding some of the intricacies of Flutter. It seems simple going through the book, but without a guide I can see how one could waste a lot of time getting up to speed. I particularly like the 'Tips' that are sprinkled through the book, lots of them are undocumented or unapparent things one normally has to learn the 'hard way'.Thanks Rap Payne for an awesome book!

Indispensable for a beginner
A good book to be introduced to Flutter. The author did a good job of breaking down concepts into easy to understand logic. Most of Flutter is just understanding Widgets and their properties. However, some code snippets are either out dated or inaccurate for practical application. Being cautious while implementing things would be advised

Great beginners resource for Flutter development.
This book was essential to me gaining the knowledge and skills required to start making apps with Flutter. I started taking online courses for Flutter development before I got this book and even though the online courses are supposed to be for beginners too there are times when I have to watch the same video clip three times and I still wouldn't fully understand the concept. The information in this book is laid out in a way that's easy to follow and the chapters all flow together seamlessly. Never thought I'd actually enjoy reading a technical manual but this book changed my mind.

Not for the Flutter novice
Definitely not for the novice Flutter/Dart programmer. I was able to glean a few valuable pointers and so it was probably worth the price.

Great way into into Flutter
So far a great book to get into Flutter. I've dabbled in Android Studio and XCode, so it's nice to play around with another dev tool. The way the lessons are laid out, it's easy to follow through.

Useless
Let me save you $40, just read the Google documentation. I understand that this is a book for beginners, but I can watch some dude on YouTube tell me what the widgets do, or the basics of state. What I (and really any developer attempting to learn with this textbook) really needed was a more in depth discussion of the various patterns and architectures developers can use to manage their applications. I bought the book to be taught the things chapter 9 told me existed.
