Gravity (Orginal Film Score) CD Review: Oscar-Worthy Score For "Gravity" - Rarely do I buy a movie soundtrack album that is just instrumental pieces of the score, rather than songs. But I HAD to buy Steven Price's phenomenal, haunting, memorable soundtrack album to the equally phenomenal, haunting, memorable sci-fi/drama film "Gravity". Besides Alfonso Cuaron's outstanding direction, the mindblowing visual effects and cinematography that make you feel like you really are in space, the wonderful performances of Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as the stranded astronauts in space, and the world-class sound design that engulfs you from all sides, Steven Price's mesmerizing film score is the final piece in the brilliant "Gravity" picture. This magnificent musical soundscape score instantly grabs you and keeps you engaged, piece by piece, from the first track to the last. Listening to the soundtrack album brings the movie back to me all over again. This isn't easy listening, per se, but WOW, is this music powerful, especially at night with the lights out, and on headphones. Steven Price easily deserves an Oscar for his amazing work here. If you're a huge fan of the film "Gravity", then buying this must-have soundtrack album is a no-brainer. I love it. :-) Review: A Masterful Array of Electronics and Sweeping Orchestral Sounds - Gravity is the newly released sci-fi epic from director Alfonso Cuaron, who previously directed the incredible Children of Men. To help him capture the haunting and intense atmosphere of the film, Cuaron brought the British composer Steven Price (who recently scored The World's End) on-board, and what came with him was a truly spectacular electronic score with some epic, sweeping orchestral sounds. In the first track "Above Earth," Price sets the tone by offering some eerie, static-y sounds that move into a somber, electronic orchestra that is just beautiful in ever way. In the second track "Debris," the intensity kicks into gear. A viola and electronics make this track stand out at the beginning, sounding very tense and perilous in itself. The third track "The Void" establishes this intense theme even further, keeping in track with the previous "Debris" but also offering haunting vocals. It's the second to last track, "Shenzou," though that is truly epic and mesmerizing, and the track alone makes this score worth owning. I'll stop there with the track analysis, but I will say, anyone who likes electronic scores will go bonkers for this masterpiece. Now, with other masterful scores released this year (including The Lone Ranger, Europa Report, Elysium, Pacific Rim and Captain Phillips), Gravity does have competition. Happily, I definitely place it on the top 5 of the year, just for being so fulfilling and all-around epic.

Wow! really, really cool!
Blew me away!,It looks to be recorded at abbey road so quality through the roof should not surprise. The genesis of new ideas in sound into incredibly human vocals/ solo work brilliant!. Touching, shocking and compelling, Just like the movie itself makes you want to do something. Some of the small technical flaws of movie are not necessary to overcome in soundtrack. Just listen to its splendor, which I do not use lightly here! I wish majority of other audio pieces, soundtracks and other, that I purchase have half of the depth and quality of the material and recording. With a good stereo/sub-woofer set up, It rips through any preexisting bad mood.gets four words, "Gives you goose bumps!". I give it a wholehearted--- "Buy it"--

Simple, but effective
For a movie relatively bereft of sound effects and light on dialogue due to its setting, Gravity sure was heavily scored. The soundtrack runs 72 minutes (out of a movie slightly over 90 minutes long). As befits the movie, the soundtrack is presented simply with no gimmicks: sixteen long tracks that chronologically depict the emotional content of the movie. The pulsating, layered electronic sounds and dissonant strings that characterize most of this album are not entertaining in the conventional sense-even for a film music buff-but they are effective in building tension. Ferocious action cues intermingle with extended background music. However, the climax is appropriately thrilling and becomes more melodic, and a nonverbal vocal element is introduced to highlight the increasing humanity of the situation. Perhaps the most important criteria for evaluating any soundtrack is that it fits the movie, and this one definitely does. Minimalist, gut-wrenching, and uplifting.

Gravity CD
I had not heard of Steven Price before. But I figured since the movie GRAVITY was a hit, so should the music. As a matter of fact he just got a Oscar nomination for this music. It is a bit like what Vangellias music is like. But this unique to say. A muxture of a real orchestra and computerized sounds. I haven't seen the movie yet. But will one day. The CD only cost ten dollars. If I had gone to a music store, which there are very few left, or one of those Big Box Stores, I think I'd have paid more for this CD than what I did at Amazon. One thing though. I do like to hear music from a full orchestra, especially the String Section. Two CD's to recommed on that front is the music from "The General's Daughter" and the original orchestral music from "City of Angels". But this Gravity CD is a good, with sounds to get the heart pumping.

A fitting soundtrack as to what it's like to be terrified in space.
I've always considered a movie's soundtrack to be the interstitial glue that ties the dialog, plot, and overall movie together. Gravity's soundtrack by Price is what I'd consider not just any interstitial glue, but an interstitial superglue. I also liked that low volumes were just as important as high volumes in creating this soundtrack as it perfectly captures the nothingness of space. Finally, while the visuals were amazing in the movie, the soundtrack was what pushed Gravity from being a good movie to a great movie due to how well it tells the emotional journey of Dr. Stone.

I love this. In a similar vein to some of Hans Zimmers music. Really captures the frightening clastrophobic vacuum of space. Has a great theme running through the music and as with all great film music, you can listen to the whole album and enjoy it.

Steven brilliantly emotes the beauty of our world as well as the excitement and danger endured by astronaut Dr. Ryan Stone. His music is a key component of the film. Instead of making use of sound effects in space as there is no sound in space, his music is woven into the very fabric of the movie. Whether it be heard as flying debris, the turmoil of Dr. Stone being spun on the arm or the destruction of the ISS, he captures the essence of the elements. This is a soundtrack that can stand on its own w/out you needing to watch the movie.
