Tried, True, and Reliable!
I bought this Sharp digital alarm clock to replace one nearly identical to it. The old Sharp was at least 25 years old, and it kept reliable time with the perfect display size. The brightness is just right too, but not too bright. All of the settings, including the alarm setting, are very easy to use. The Sharp Digital Alarm Clock with Keyboard Style Controls is a very basic yet reliable and somewhat compact alarm clock everyone should own—and the price is very inexpensive for such a good quality item.

Easy to set, easy to see
It's so easy to set the time and alarm on this little clock. Love that. It's a nice, compact size. Love that. There's a dimmer for the brightness. Love that. It has a snooze button so that's good. It's easy to see the time even without my glasses. Two things I wish this had was volume adjustment for the alarm and a choice of alarm chimes. The alarm on this thing is loud and jarring. Not exactly the sound I want to wake up to, but for sure I'm not sleeping through this alarm. I recently had to go out of town and brought this with me. It's compact and easily packed so I'll use as my travel alarm and keep my old alarm with the more peaceful alarm for daily use.

Simple to use alarm clock, does the job perfectly!!!
Great and simple alarm clock. Not complicated like some alarm clocks, this clock has a nice profile in a dark room and easy to see. Has battery backup option for when power goes out. We live in an old house with power spurts, so the battery backup (battery not included) is a life saver. Highly recommend. Great price too.

An Excellent No-Fuss Alarm Clock
I have been using this alarm clock for probably around a year now. It is super easy to use, which is exactly what I was looking for. It is also very reliable, which is obviously an important characteristic of an alarm clock. I like that the clock uses red numbers, as I have found that some clocks with blue light can keep me awake. I find that the display is bright enough to see in the day but not too bright at night. I only have two small complaints which contributed to the 4-star rating. First, I find that the alarm sound itself is rather loud and there is no way to turn down the volume. I have tried putting tape on the bottom in an attempt to muffle the sound, but it's still a bit much. I live in a condo with a shared wall, so I am probably more mindful of the noise than most people who live in standard houses would be. Secondly, the clock slowly loses time. I do not know if this is a problem with just my clock or not, but every so often (maybe once a month) I have to add a minute or two to the clock's time. It's not a big deal, but a minor grievance nonetheless. Overall, I would recommend this product if you are looking for something simple and easy without all the bells and whistles that come on so many modern alarm clocks.

Well built , good readability and low cost
I was looking for a simple desk clock that runs of AC and uses the 60 Hz mains frequency as a time base. The reason for the latter is because the electricity company keeps this really accurate, you will never have to correct the clock (as is often the case with clocks having an internal quartz reference). Quartz based clocks always drifts over time, not so for this clock. Also, those atomic clocks (as an alternative) were not an option for me, as the NIST radio signal for that (from Ft Collins, CO) is too weak where I live. Apart from the fact that those clocks cost at least twice as much. There is a battery backup in this clock that keeps an internal oscillator running when there is a power outage, two AAA batteries can be placed in the clock for that. Contrary what some reviewers have reported as a "defect", these batteries are only there to keep the internal oscillator running during an outage so you won't have to re-adjust the clock after a power outage. These batteries will NOT keep the display illuminated. That is not why these batteries are there, even the video reviewer had not grasped that fact I noticed.I recommend to use old-fashioned carbon-zinc batteries for this backup function, as alkaline-based batteries always start to leak corrosive electrolyte after a while. This will destroy your radio in the process. This leakage happens even when alkaline batteries are hardly used I have noticed, they are terrible in that aspect. Use carbon-zinc instead (often called "heavy duty" batteries)This is in fact my only gripe about this radio, it should have been designed for a lithium coin cell battery instead of the two AAA batteries. Lithium batteries never leak an have an extremely low self discharge.Another nice-to-have would have been a daylight- saving time switch, but not a big deal.Adding it all up, this is a buy I can recommend. The clock is built well and has good brightness (settable by the user)

Very easy to use
Runs cool. Easy to use without instructions. Alarm clock works. Bright but dimmable by pressing the bar button. Readable in the daytime and at night. Red is a good choice because it doesn’t affect night vision as much as other colors.

Perfect for small spaces.
Bare bones small alarm clock. It has snooze, three levels of screen dimming and of course alarm and time setting capabilities. It's exactly what I was looking for.
