"Not sure if it is worth changing" Now I am!
This refers to a previous posting entitled The Jury's Out and appears in comments to that. Accu-Chek Mobile Blood Glucose SystemI contacted the Roche helpline after two tests with my new Mobile meter, as like you, the reading was way higher than that on my Aviva taken at the same time (with the same blood drop) they said a 15% deviation between two meters is acceptable. I am waiting for control solutions to arrive to check them both out, but strangely now after 10 tests the readings are only a little different. So perhaps the Mobile needs a few tests before it stabilises. Will repost when I have checked the meters.Have now tested both meters with the control solutions and both show results well within the control limits, so on the face of it both are operating correctly. However the Mobile meter is consistently reading higher than the Aviva, usually by one full unit or more higher than the Aviva, and on two occasions six units higher. This from the same blood droplet. The second time this happened I tested with Aviva result 6.0 then Mobile 12.2, then again with Aviva (new strip but same blood droplet) 6.1........I have also compared both meters using a new blood droplet for each, within 30 seconds of each other. Same result Mobile always higher than Aviva. The Mobile cassette is valid until end Oct 2013, so no problem there. Interestingly I had a Diabetic Clinic appointment whilst waiting for the Control Solutions to arrive and got the Sister to compare the readings taken there with my two meters and the Clinic one, which was also an Aviva. The two Avivas showed 7.1 and 7.2 and the Mobile 8.4. Not a scientific test I know, but it makes me doubt the accuracy of my particular Mobile, or perhaps this actual cassette, as it appears that the sample test is carried out 'in cassette' rather than 'in meter' the meter only displaying results from the cassette.I bought the Mobile to make the statutory tests before and whilst driving easier, but now am worried that the test results are so inconsistent that I have wasted money and actually made my target aims of reducing insulin injection, further away. As relying on the test result I vary how many units of Insulin I inject, in relation to my test result, at the moment, I do not have confidence in the accuracy of the Mobile Meter. I will be submitting this response to Roche for their comments, but can not at this time, recommend the Mobile Meter, apart from its obvious benefits of convenience, ease of use, discretion, data retrieval, and display features. The benefits however do not outweigh the cost of replacement cassettes if not available on your local NHS,especially if tests are wasted due to 'insufficient sample' or more specifically if it is found that the test results are inaccurate and do not support the self medication regime that Diabetic Clinics recommend to control the treatment of diabetes mellitus.Revised review.....Thanks to the superb customer service Roche provide, they have replaced my original Mobile AccuChek and my existing Aviva meter, having recalled them for testing. I have yet to see the report of their tests, but I suspect that either my Mobile or its' cassette was faulty resulting in the erratic readings. The new replacements display readings so similar that they vary by 0.1 or 0.2 units only, 3% well within the allowable 15% variance expected. The Customer Service agent that took my case over spent some time checking that I was using the Mobile meter according to their recommendations, specially explaining why it is important to wash one's hands before taking a test reading. (Or use a sterile alcohol pre-injection wipe) The cassette test surface is so sensitive that even a slight contamination of the skin where the blood drop sample is taken can affect the reading by many units. Saliva in particular will alter the test to an extent that it gives a reading that would indicate the need to increase the insulin dose.So now I am quite happy to recommend the Accu-Chek Mobile for its' all in one convenience, and providing it is used according to the instruction "Wash your Hands" that appears on the screen before every test, then it is accurate and reliable. For my purpose, to be used whilst expecting to be driving more than a couple of hours, I purchased a pack of Pre-Injection Swab (Alcohol Wipe) £1.80 for 100 from Amazon, and make sure that I use one before testing.

Stylish, simple to set up and use blood glucose meter - love it!
I have been diabetic for 18 years and this is the best meter I have ever used, though only had it for 2 or 3 days so far. It is a stylish, modern design, with a very clear display, and really simple to set up and use. Results in about 5 or 6 seconds, and you can "flag" each test to indicate if it was done at a meal time or for the "peak" blood test afterwards. You can set a reminder at 90 minutes or two hours for this purpose. The finger pricker is painless, and can be used as shown, attached to the meter, or removed to use like a traditional lancing device.Note that cassettes (which contain 50 tests) expire after about 3 months of opening, so if you are an occasional tester they are not very economical. The lancets come in a "barrel" of 6, pre-loaded, which just clips fits onto the lancing device and has a display showing how many are left. You just advance onto the next one after each test. If you are an insulin dependent diabetic in England, Accu-Chek will currently provide this meter free of charge, along with batteries, control solution and a carry case. Test strip cassettes and lancets are available on NHS prescription. This meter can connect via a USB lead (provided) to a computer to show graphs in your browser without any additional software, or if you like to record your insulin dose as well and undertake more advanced analysis, additional software can be purchased.

Accu-Chek Mobile Glucometer
Hi, This product, Accu-Chek Mobile Glucose Monitoring System, is very good to operateand seems to be technically better than so many other brands. It is worth the money spent on it. Coming to the negative points, there are a few, which may make the user to discourage the continuation of using this product. 1.This product is not available/sold in India, Where, the percentage of diabetic people are comparatively more. India accounts for about one sixth to one seventh of the world population and percentage of diabetics are also comparatively more. I fail to understand the reason for not marketing this product in India by Accu-Chek, the market leader. This product, which I have purchased also is from UK through Amazon. When the other products of Accu-Chek are available here, why not this item alone is not available ? Out of the total cost I had incurred, Nearly 40% had gone for transportation, custom duty and other taxes. How many people can afford to purchase and use ? 2.Coming to the second point of, Using it continuously, the spares, i.e, the "Accu-Chek Mobile cassette" (Used against the Stripes which are used generally in almost all such Glucose Monitoring Systems) and the Specially made "Lancets" (Required for pricking the fingers to get the blood sample) are NOT AVAILABLE with AMAZON themselves. This point I am mentioning here, after thorough checking of the product list of AMAZON. I am diabetic since more than 32 years and I have already exhausted the "Cassette" which can be used only for 50 Tests. Even if it is available, the cost is around 15 to 20 GBP, which is almost 50 to 60% of the Total unit. So, instead of purchasing the "cassette",which should cost around 15 to 20% of the cost of the total unit, the full unit itself can be purchased by spending another 15 GBP. 3.Unlike the other Glucose Monitoring Systems, this system may be useful, only for the Chronic Diabetics, who have to do the tests very frequently to monitor and control the blood sugar variations accordingly. Whereas, most of the diabetic population may not require the tests to be done very frequently. So the usage of this system among the diabetic may be very limited. The above points are given only as analytical feed back and does not amount to any serious criticism. It is generally discussed about the availability and best and economical future usage of the system. Thanks and Regards Anantha Raman
