E714 Einstein Electronic Chess Wizard

The reviews of this product that call it "OK" and complain about the quality of its construction certainly don't reflect my experience with it. I couldn't be more impressed or pleased with it. Even referring to it as a toy misses the nature of my experience; it has provided me, with no one in my world to play chess with, some calming quiet times playing a most worthy game. It matches my ability level now--I'm at base one--and if/when I improve it will allow me to increase the the level of challenge. Plus it has tutoring functions, etc., etc., etc. And it came at a very reasonable price. I have a young daughter who lives out of state and who has never played chess and is starting an after-school chess class. I plan to send her this set to complement the class lessons. I recommend it unreservedly.

This game does not work. I try to make clearly legal moves and it says they are illegal. I try to castle in exactly the way it says to do it in the handbook, and it says it is illegal. I tried resetting the machine but it did not help. It also freezes up and displays incomprehensible stuff on the screen. Extremely frustrating. This is a terrible product.

all though it is a lot of fun and educational, I find that after a while it will freeze up and stop working until you reset it.

many levels to train on, played the first five levels and beat it, played level 6 and it beat me, been having fun with it, my only 2 complains, are that from time to time it will freeze and you have to reset the machine, but doesn't happen too often so thats just a minor problem , and the battery life is not good at all, if they would have made this with power cord I would have gave it a better rating, but overall its a good product to me.

Great set, nice range of levels. I am an average player (I know some openings, can never remember past the 1st three moves; I understand importance of center, mobility, king safety; but I can't calculate lots of combinations.) This set gives me the best, most competitive games; there is good tension, then I usually win!! The set itself is nice and compact. I love the pieces too; they are classic Staunton. And the piece colors are not green and brown, nor grey and red, nor yellow and mauve, but (gasp) black and white.

Game appears to not be very durable. It arrived well packaged, but when I opened the box, the top chess board had been separated from the circuit board underneath while in transit. Had to return. Did not buy another as it appeared the E714 was not of high quality construction.

I just don't have the patience to sit and train myself this way. I honestly bought it after seeing the movie "Queen to Play"...It's not that hard to learn how this product works. Pieces are magnetic which is nice. The whole set is as you would know, much smaller than a classic manual chess set. I do get the sense, if you practice with this diligently it would help you get better from being a beginner. I have no negative opinion about this product...
