Give your garden some ‘wow’ factor with this majestic golden Chinese timber bamboo! The golden-orange stems will rise to an impressive height over time making a superb architectural feature in your garden. The slender foliage is evergreen, providing year round colour – perfect for screening unsightly buildings or creating privacy around the patio. This Golden Bamboo is considered one of the best in the temperate UK climate. It makes an outstanding specimen plant even in cooler conditions. Plant it in sheltered borders and let it travel to create a broad stand of exotic looking canes, or grow in a large patio container to restrict its growth. When growing Golden Bamboo in pots, choose a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Repot the plant, firming well into the new container, then water well. Alternatively grow in moist, free draining soil - if the soil is particularly free draining, improve it by adding plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost prior to planting. Choose a sheltered position that is protected from cold, drying winds. Feed and water regularly, particularly when grown in containers. Repot into successively larger containers as plants increase in size. Once established, thin out any weak, damaged or unwanted canes in spring, cutting them back to ground level, and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. Mature bamboos can be divided in spring if clumps become congested.
