The best smart lock out there with a twist.
The best, most comprehensive and most compatible (both with different lock systems and different smart home ecosystems) smart lock out there. Bought 3 and have been using them for over a year now. the only problem is with the grease oil inside, it is of really poor quality. If you install the device where there is a lot of dust or pre-install it before a renovation, the grease gets thicker and the lock stops working. You have to dismantle it, clean the poor-grade grease and re-grease it with a quality grease. Then it works like a monster.

Seems promising but gearing issues make it unreliable
Worked ok for a few months, now makes gear grinding noise and locks me out 80% of the time. Really wanted to pike this product, but after a few months of use the gears on it or something seem to have gone bad. The lock turns smoothly manually and the door is aligned but when the motor tries to turn the lock it doesn’t work. Manual/Automatic calibration haven't fixed the issue unfortunately. Overall I’ve liked the products smart features, battery, life, and overall feel. But it doesn’t let me into my house which is a huge annoyance.

Great lock, above expectations
I just got the Aqara smart lock, and I’m really happy with it. Mounting it is not as hard as it seems, but it helps to watch a video on YouTube. Installing the lock in the app is straightforward, though updating the firmware takes a while. To pair it with HomeKit, I had to remove the battery and press the SET button first. Also, make sure you have IP6 enabled in your router settings. The installation is simple, but the instructions are limited and not in Dutch. The app could use some refinement. It works great with Apple HomeKit and Apple Homekey. You can choose to always be able to unlock the lock with your phone, even if it’s off. There’s also an option to require FaceID or your passcode before Homekey works. The fingerprint scanner is very fast and I use it most of the time. I also installed another cylinder with a panic function within a minute so that I can always open the door with a regular key. Note that Amazon sells the version without the NFC tag, but there are other versions available that include it, and they come with a wood-colored front plate. Once connected, the HomeKit integration is excellent, but you adjust the lock settings in the Aqara app. For instance, I set it in HomeKit so that the lock automatically locks when I leave home. Apple Homes won’t let you automatically lock the door as you leave your home, it always asks for confirmation. But I found another way to lock it automatically without any confirmation, just by making an automation that if a non used outlet turns off (this one turns off by leaving my home), the U200 has to be locked. This only works when the outlet is on, so when I arrive home, the outlet turns on again, also have an automation for this outlet to be turning on several times a day to make sure the auto locking works always without any confirmation. In the video, the lock is shown in the fast mode, but there’s also a slow, quiet mode. You can choose the modes in the app, or you can click the ✔️ button and then open or close the lock slowly. Despite many negative reviews here, I am very satisfied with it and think the lock is definitely worth the price.

Physical problems mar a solid software and integration experience
Update December 2025: After about 16 months the U200 lock just stopped working. It would no longer reliably lock even when the door was open. It became hard to turn the lock manually too - both with the key and with the knob on the inside. There were times that it would lock, but it would often take 4-6 tries and it seemed like it was grinding as it was trying to lock the door. I was under the impression that some of the gears had broken and lost their teeth. Fortunately, this didn't result in any lockouts, but it did force us to start carrying keys again, which defeated the purpose of the lock. Figuring that the lock was dead, and having contacted Aqara earlier in the year and not wanting to continue to deal with their customer service process, I took the lock apart and found what it seems thousands of other people have experienced and sometimes found - the inside of the motor housing was all gummed up. The grease used for a lubricant had gotten gummy in a number of locations. I carefully removed each of the gears and noted that they were all in good physical condition - even the plastic one. Although the presence of a plastic gear is generally a bad sign. I removed the solidified grease from all the parts and then applied some new synthetic grease to the gears and reassembled the lock. It's now quiet once again and closes my door with no problem. So, if you're fine with voiding your warranty and spending 30 minutes once a year to take apart and great your lock, this seems fine. But, if you're Aqara, this seems as though it's a design issue that affected my lock. Possibly because of infiltration of dust into the motor mechanism or because of the use of a poor grease. Original Review: I got this lock because it supports Matter and Thread. For smart home stuff Matter is the way to ensure you have a slightly future proof smart home. I wanted a thread door lock because I don't like giving all the devices access to my home network. I've had good luck with this combination and have a handful of Matter over Thread switches and outlets around the house. After some tweaking, it works well in that respect. First, out of the box the device did not work with Matter over Thread with my HomePod Mini thread border router. Even when I moved the HomePod Mini to within a few feet of the lock, all attempts at pairing would time out. I have a robust thread network in my house thanks to a number of thread outlets and switches, but this wasn't work either with QR code or the numeric code. Thankfully, a firmware update fixed this and made it so it was easily added to my HomeKit network. Next, there is a design flaw of sorts in the keypad. The tab that needs to be flipped to remove the keypad from the mount to change the batteries is on the bottom and it's quite tight against the door. This means that if you're mounting the keypad on your front door, you need to mount it quite a bit higher than your existing keyhole for the deadbolt to ensure that you can replace the batteries. Likewise, I'd have the same problem if I mounted it on my storm door or door frame because of challenges with the storm door handle or doorbell. Finally, there's a small nit about the quality of the screws included to mount the device to the metal base that is screwed into my deadbolt. Namely, they're not very good screws and start to strip easily. If you need to remove the device there's a good chance you'll start to strip the screws. You may think you'll never need to remove it, and I hope you don't, but I had to so I could better secure the door lock and do some fine adjustments. I replaced those screws with M3x14mm 316 stainless steel hex drive machine screws and I feel a lot more confidence that I'll be able to remove the door lock if I need it. After all of this and some careful tweaking, the lock is fairly reliable, but I wouldn't call it 100% as I've seen it jam a couple of times even after tweaking it. It's good enough to reasonably trust that the door will unlock automatically when I get home, but not so good that I'm going to get rid of the emergency key hidden around my house.

Amazing Features. Needs firmware updates.
To start of with, this is exactly what I have been waiting for. It was an instant buy for me when it released. Installation is easy and very apartment friendly. Now comes the tough part. Pairing it to the Aqara App or Homekit is a huge pain. I found a reddit post that helps and will link it below, but nobody should have to go through it for their first install. Thankfully, I figure it can be fixed by a firmware update but as of this moment, this is a very glitchy experience. Once it is paired though, it works seamlessly. HomeKey works great! Unlocks almost instantly with code and the fingerprint.

The product is fine on its own and has good quality. The software component, however, is the main source of worry. I have spent four hours on the internet and in forums trying to get this to work with Apple HomeKit, but it doesn't. Instead, you must install the Aqara app, get all the features, and then hope that it works at all. I purchased this to replace my Nuki smart lock, but in the end, I installed Nuki again.

Very impressed with the product. Is my 6th different smart lock, installation was a breeze. Love that the keypad can be separate from the exterior door - makes for a very clean, standard look. Apple home and Aqara user already so found set up very easy. All the Apple HomeKey features work perfectly. The only thing family doesn’t like is the manual turn to unlock inside is very stiff. Have not quite worked out why but everything else is working perfectly and very stable in HomeKit so I’m not bothered by it.
