It's halfway there, folks...
Well, I had read several reviews on many files and I decided to buy this one. My expectations fell short upon receiving it. Why? Foremost, the file is itself bent sideways to such a degree that I cannot use it. Frets are perfectly straight across the fingerboard from E - E, and this file is curved. A file must be perfectly straight from one end to the other in order to accurately file frets. Also, one side of the file has serrations that are not evenly distributed along the length of the inner channel. Some serrations are not present either. I think their machinery missed badly on my file, rendering it quite useless for the fret work I need to do on a 1996 G&L Legacy USA guitar. I won't send this back, as the expense and time are not worth my efforts. I need to find another file that will do the proper work I require. Be careful if you choose to order this file - I guess the consistency is off from time to time.

Pretty poorly made. Doesn't really work.
This file is affordable, but it's pretty poorly made. Compare it to a real file and you can see the teeth are dull and poorly formed.I had to use a larger file to modify this fret file to make it work, but it still worked poorly. On one side, one of the legs next to the concave portion was poorly formed and was too long, so it would rub on the fretboard and the file wouldn't cut the fret. I had to use a larger file to knock down and square up the portions of the file next to the concave filing surface. If you plan to use this regularly, spend more to get a better quality file.Ultimately, this file didn't work. it takes metal off the top of the fret, meaning it lowers the entire fret. That's what you don't want. I ended up having to re-level all the frets and use regular files after this fret file failed to work.

You’re gonna have to file the file...
It was pretty rough when I recurved it. I should have taken a before pick. The flat rails on the sides of the groove were printed with the groove too. They were also uneven so I put it on a file, smoothed out and leveled the rails. I’ve tested it on a scrap piece of rosewood that I used to practice slotting and stetting frets. Without tape it was not bad on the rosewood but it might chew up some maple or something. You have to be real light with it and adjust the angle until you get the crown. It works really well for dressing the fret ends. Overall it’s a decent fret tool that won’t break you but you’ll have to put in a little work to make it usable on anything important.

Crowns as stated
I normally use a 3 sided file for crowning work, and this was inexpensive enough to give it a try. I've leveled and crowned 2 guitars and while it does take a lot of the guesswork and tedium from crowning, I still end up using my old file to sharpen the curve. It saves time, and takes a lot of guesswork out of the equation. I'd still like a Z-file, but 120.00 is steep.

Does it’s job at a good price.
It’s a decent fret file at very affordable price. The quality of the file is rather rough but some elbow grease and some grinding, filing and polishing took care of that. As for its function, no complaints. Easy fret work if you take care to tape off you fret board first, then apply some cautious common sense and proper application of the tool. You are removing material after all and should you get carried away the only fix is a re-fret job.I’d definitely recommend this.

This is a pretty good file, I'm sure there are better but for the price not bad.
Fret crowning file ,haven't used it yet but for the price $10.00 hard to beat. It's a lot better file than the one that comes with the $15.00 kit that has the other stuff with it ,but the kit is decent, I like the little fret hammer and the stone and the fret rocker but the file is not too hot, part of the file doesent even have the groove for the fret shape. This $10.00 file is a lot better. Amazon is a great place to order from. I received everything promptly, when they say you will get your order at a certain time look for it it will be there if not let them know they will take care of it! Nan. M.

Works!
Building a kit and did a fret level and crown using this file. Only the second time doing a fret level etc so I am no expert but this this works well and I'm a picky mo fo with stuff like this.

Surprisingly effective
Rarely do i ever write a review for a product on amazon but I thought I’d but how surprised I was at the accuracy of the fret crowner being that I was skeptical at first. After I finished leveling my frets, all my frets were beyond flat but after going at each fret for about 5-10 second it did the trick perfectly and crowned it better than I could imagine. The only downside is that one side seemed too dull to file the frets which bothered me, but the other sided filed them quick and easy. Overall happy with the purchase as it MUCH cheaper than the Z-File and I only intend to use it once in a while for personal repairs.

Cheap and as good as expected.
It worked but there are better files out there. It’s not for professional use.
