Trudeau4.5" Salt & Pepper Set Salt and Pepper Shakers, Burgundy

These are so pretty! As other reviewers have noted, these salt n' pepper shakers are NOT metal--they are plastic, but they feel substantial. I ordered them hoping that they were plastic--my 6 and 8 year old girls are the primary intended users for these shakers, which will surely be dropped onto my butcher block counter over and over and over.... (you see where I am going with this). In any case, the color and size of these shakers is fabulous--the computer color is almost exactly how they appear in "real life"!My favorite thing about these shakers is that the holes on each are in the shape of an "S" and "P"--my girls and husband LOVE this detail!I bought the Trudeau 4-1/2" Salt and Pepper Shakers to "go" with the the following kitchen accessory colors:Old Dutch Darla Napkin HolderSignature Housewares Sorrento Ruby 3-canister setThey are a deeper shade of ruby than both of these accessory collections, but they are close enough that I am happy to set the shakers in front of both. We've only had the shakers for 24 hours, but we have used them a lot (because the girls like playing with them at this point) and there is no issue with leaking as other reviewers have mentioned.I would buy these again in a heartbeat and highly recommend them to anyone who wants traditional shakers in a modern color.

They are ok

Trudeau makes, by far, the best mills for grinding red pepper flakes. The Maison 5 inch is more compact than the 7.5 inch model. The Maison's hourglass shape and spherical top adjusting screw adds a touch of class to your dining table or kitchen. Most important, of course, is grinding. You get a fine powder out. This gives you a more even distribution than when using the whole flakes. Many black pepper mills have too large a space, and don't do a good job on red pepper flakes. Trudeau's Red Pepper Mill is made to accomodate the pepper flakes and then grind them up. I have tried many different pepper mills, and each is suited for their own spice inputs. You cannot get a better Red Pepper Flake Mill than this one.

Note, this did not come with red pepper flakes pre-filled. So the packaging was misleading when it said it was filled in the USA with red pepper flakes. It does a decent job of grinding the pepper, but I still get a few intact seeds popping out which isn't that acceptable. Overall, it's a good grinder but I'd look at something else for a smoother grind of red pepper flakes.

This was a good purchase. I've had this for a few months, and it's a very quick, one-handed way to add finely ground pepper to recipes. It's simple to use and fill, and it feels durable. It even came with some peppercorns to start me off.I imagine a more expensive peppermill would let you adjust the grind size. You get one type of pepper flake with this, and it's pretty darn OK.Unless you need to have something that looks super-elegant, adjusts grind size, or produces an industrial amount of ground pepper at once, there's no need to purchase a more expensive peppermill than this.

I loved the looks of this set. It isn't metal, but plastic. They are the right size for me, didn't want a set that was too big. The color is beautiful.However, I was a little disappointed that they have a seam that runs down both sides that doesn't show in the picture here. I thought it might be plastic to protect them and I needed to remove it. However, it doesn't want to peel off so I quit trying for fear of ruining them. Also, the brown trim around the bottom isn't there on my set. Another reason I thought they had a plastic protection. Mine set looks like a cheaper set. I like the looks of the ones in the picture better, but will keep the set anyway. Can't beat the price.

Just the right size

I got these really nice shakers as add-on items and they are great. Nice weight and shape to use at the stove or kitchen table. Filled by removing a tab on the bottom the holes on the top are in the shape of an "S" for the salt shaker and a "P" for the pepper. A nice touch when using otherwise identical shakers plus they hold a good quantity so you won't be refilling them too often. They are well made and I couldn't beat the price. This line comes in a variety of colors to match your decor but the pricing does differ based on the color you choose. I went for the red because - well - they were cheap. I like them so much that I plan to splurge on a pastel set for dinners in the dining room.

This salt mill does not grind grey sea salt. Of course the product didn't say it would, so lesson learned. I had to buy another one that does. So.. I now use it for pepper. It works well enough, but feels really cheap when in use. Also, you have to push the top down for each and every turn, since it pops back up after every turn, making it awkward to use. I also thought it was stainless steel and acrylic, but the exterior top & bottom is made of stainless steel finish (plastic). Another lesson learned. My fault on both accounts, so obviously not what I was looking for. It says it does not leaving a mess on the counter, etc but it does leave a small amount behind each time it is picked up. Now knowing more about salt grinders, I would still rate this only 3 stars since it feels and looks really cheap (the plastic could be a little thicker), awkward to use, and isn't really a "no mess" mill. If you don't care about any of that, it does grind really well.
