IS this a USB headset?

Yes and no. It has the standard mic and headset plugs, but it also comes with a USB dongle that those can plug into. The USB dongle is necessary if you want to take advantage of the Logitech software that offers the 7.1 surround.

is this headset worth 70 dollars

Austin, for me and simply, yes, it is worth more than $70. I am not a gamer, however, and just an old music fan and especially the multi channel sounds available with 5.1 or higher outputs. I have my 'sound room' (AKA our TV room) set to 5.1 but with about 20 different speakers in different locations around the room. In no instance can I replicate the output I receive from the Logitech G430. It captures every sound I normally hear and on certain playback sounds I have never heard before. If I were buying a headset for gaming I would attempt to find a cordless one first with no strong need for the G430 type of output. But, as I said I am not a gamer and I can see where a 7.1 output could be fantastic. At times the headset is well worth far more than $70 and if I had the same set in a cordless version I would be delighted if it works as well. Additionally, I have several sets of cheap headphones and one set that cost over $100. Not one of them matches the quality and performance of the G430. I hope my reply added a different dimension to your investigation and if you decide on this set I think you will get the same level of entertainment as I have. How does the ear cups feel? are they warm?

Well the ear cups are a very nice mesh that keeps air going to your ears for coolness. They are warm after wearing them for a few minutes
