Excellent backup generator for a refrigerator.
This unit arrived right away, and once filled with oil (comes with it) and gasoline started on the 2nd or 3rd pull. Ran with the choke on until it warmed up, then let it idle with choke off. Runs smooth, no leaks, generates enough power to run my fridge during outages. This unit is fairly lightweight, more quiet than I expected, and seems to be well built for a tiny little generator. My boat mechanic once told me to run my boat engines out of gas after each use to prevent build up, so I did that with this unit. It ran for several minutes after I turned the fuel petcock to the "off" position seeming to indicate that this unit will run for a long time on a gallon of gas.I like it, I would recommend it.

Was a Great price for a 4 cycle
I bought this because I wanted a small CARB approved 4 cycle 1000w generator. Not many out there. This will serve 1 of 3 purposes in a power outage emergency. If a summer failure it will be used to power a 500 watt window ac during the day and a refrigerator for a few hours when the sun goes down. In the winter it will be used for a 16amp smart charger to top off my solar power battery bank. I have tested all 3 and it worked flawlessly. It arrived quickly. After adding oil and gas it started on the 3rd pull. It pulls easier than most lawnmowers. My 5ft wife can start it. At 79.5cc it is a lot quieter than a 160cc lawnmower. It sips gas. I can't give it 5 stars yet because I have not had it long enough to judge longevity.I took a star off. When I tested it at first it was about 75°F outside. Today,6/25/2016, it was 100°F. The 500w window air conditioning unit would not run. It will still do the main job that I bought it for, recharging a battery bank. At $150 including shipping it was still a bargain. But now that the price has shot up to $250 with shipping there are better choices out there. I will test using a fan to cool the generator. I will repost only if it works. If no repost after 7/1/2016, it didn't work.

I was truly amazed at the quality of this product
I was truly amazed at the quality of this product. For the price you usually do not get this kind of workmanship and after running a tank of gas through I was extremely pleased with my purchase.

I would reccommend to a friend, and will plan to buy another if this one ever wears out.
This little gem starts every time on the second pull and runs great. It goes a long time on a tank of gas, and provides steady power for our solar system as a backup during cloudy weather. I am quite pleased with it after over 100 hours of use.

Not so fast China basher! This is a nice little generator!
Don't let the China bashers dissuade you. This is a nice little generator..... IF you treat it right. I've now owned FOUR of these units, but that is because I use them as a PRIMARY power source and really like them. The minimum number of hours I've gotten out of one of these is 1,050. The maximum was nearly 4,000 hours. As to parts; well, UST themselves ARE pretty useless. When I called them about parts availability they admitted that they don't really have many parts, but rather serve only for warranty coverage for a failure in the first 50 hours during the first year. (If it fails in that window and you have receipt they'll send you another one... Never tested that.)What this generator will do is to run an unimaginably long time on a tank of gas with a light load. Like 12-14 hours! Which is why I'm so fond of them. Very economical to run.The secret of getting long life out of one of these generators is to change the oil frequently. (Not a big deal as it only holds about 1/3 quart of oil, but that is very reason for changing frequently.) But first thing is to run it UNLOADED for at least an hour to give the engine a chance to break in a bit. Change oil after first ten hours. When you change oil, add a magnet to the drain plug. Clean the magnet off every time you change oil. Don't forget to clean air filter everytime you change oil. After first oil change, change it every 50-100 hours (more often in dusty locations). After THIRD oil change (to give engine a chance to really break in): Add one teaspoon of pure molybdenum disulfide powder to oil. (That's what got the one unit to almost 4,000 hours.)UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU RUN SYNTHETIC (MOBIL-1) OIL IN THIS GENERATOR! My brother made that mistake... the rings NEVER seated and it burned oil until the end of its life.Getting parts isn't really a worry. The Harbor Tool 79cc engine is virtually identical except for the tapered shaft crankshaft. So for roughly $100 you can swap in a brand new engine. (Must use crankshaft, gas tank and muffler off UST motor. Swapping crankshaft DOES require full dissasembly of both engines, but it is well worth doing if a small engine overhaul is within your abilities. Baring that you could take both to a small engine shop and have them do the swap. I have successfully performed the swap myself {it's running at this moment.} Only trick I would suggest is to NOT break in Harbor Tool engine before the swap, so rod journal will break in on crankshaft it will be expected to run the longest on.)Last suggestion I would make is to run the generator up off the ground, even a little bit. I run mine on an old pallet and it makes a big difference in a dusty location.I go through a couple of these a year, but that is running 12-14 hours a day seven days a week. At normal camping usage this unit could last up to a decade IF YOU TREAT IT RIGHT. For occasional use, don't forget to turn off fuel cock and then run till it dies. This will prevent the carburetor from getting fouled. Don't let gass sit in tank for more than six months. Check spark plug every few oil changes. In very hot locations run one step cooler plug. In colder climates run one step hotter plug. This is all written from the perspective of someone who actually knows the product, not a biased China basher. This is a nice little generator.

Great little generator
this little generator it's like the Energizer Bunny it keeps on going and strong as a Tonka truck my is about 7 years old and still kicking it looks like hell but it works we live in Puerto Rico so it went through hurricane Maria and with all the rolling blackouts that we have I use it all the time

Not a bad little gen
I bought this generator in a pinch and I'm pretty pleased with it. I use it to run my oil furnace in outages and exercise it a few times during the year just to keep it up. It's pretty quiet and seems to be built fairly well. I do feel, however, that if I were to need a more frequent-dependable generator, especially a higher wattage, I would look for a more reputable name like Generac or Honda. Overall, for what I need now, I would rather be warm in the dark than cold in the dark! I believe if you take care of your things they return the favor.
