### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If it’s Led Zepelin…
*by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 22 October 2024*

It’s brilliant. Vinyl sounds excellent, this album only about 34 mins consists of eight cast off tracks from other albums. They are raw and as expected with Zep great to test the speakers with. It’s one of my favourite Zepelin albums, rock “n” roll at its finest!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What do the critics know, make up your own mind
*by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 5 May 2026*

Of all of the Led Zeppelin albums this one is the most misunderstood one, from why it existed and it's title and what the tracks represented and a lot of this came from the music critics failing to grasp and understand any of it back in the day, no surprise there as Led Zeppelin had a very justified dislike of reviewers and critics from the early years, a typical early example when Jimmy Page read a review of a gig werein the reviewer wrote about what the band were wearing and precious little about the performance he likened it to reviewing a classical concert and reviewing the conductors footware I read the Zeppelin review myself ( yep, I'm that old) and Jimmy was absolutely correct using that metaphoric comparison, Throughout Led Zeppelins career they avoided interviews as much as possible and refused to appear on tv apart from the now famous appearance on Danish tv ( for modern listeners a big thumbs up for YouTube for showing it) . The first thing the critics got wrong was that the tracks were outtakes or some sort of demo track, two tracks: " I can't quit you baby" and " bonzo's montreux" were not intended for inclusion in previous albums the remaining 6 tracks were completed tracks that were left out during the bands formulating the final content of an album and due to the constraints back then of available recording times on vinyl some tracks inevitably had to be left out, this was a common practice for many bands then but the critics labelled " Coda " as an outtakes and not for public listening, I read everything back then in the music press and this crap reporting signalled the end of my purchasing the music rags such as Sounds, Melody maker and the worst one New musical express. " I can't quit you baby " was actually a sound check rehearsal and Led Zeppelin were well known at least in the music industry to perform complete tracks and do so until it came together seamlessly, therefore any sound check would only ever have been saved if it was good enough to listen to again, " Bonzo's montreux " was a studio mix and compilation by Jimmy Page after Bonzo's passing away and is a tribute to him and that's why it's on "Coda " not some sort of a " novelty " track as some of those critics would've had you to believe back then, now the album title..."Coda " the critics absolutely jumped on this one! This is were they showed complete ignorance of musical terms, their meanings and music in general. To them it simply meant -the end. A final conclusion that conveniently brought together the last scraps of whatever was left in the Zeppelin music vaults, one critic even claimed this was true because Led Zeppelin pretty much used up virtually everything available to them recording their albums and this critic agreed with his fellow critics that therefore this album had to be outtakes and stuff not good enough for the light of day, well, since then there's been plenty of stuff in the Vaults that was recorded that is coming to light: Knebworth, Earls court, the BBC concerts now what's with "Coda " ? It's a musical term that means an end but not THE end, it also means a revisit of past musical themes combined with some variation this is why " Coda " is such a great title here you have an album that symbolises the end of the band whilst revisiting it's past and having a variation to the theme in this case " bonzo's montreux " clearly too clever for those critics whom none of them had the nounce to look up the term in a dictionary before they hacked away at thir typewriters when I originally bought " Coda " I really liked it particularly the live performance of " I can't quit you baby " as back when they performed at Knebworth I had a ticket to go but due to illness I had to give it away and at the time there was always going to be another chance, sadly it was not to be, I did see " The song remains the same" 3 evenings running at the local cinema and have the cd, VHS and dvd of it ( my vinyl copy wore out eventually) I STILL like "Coda " but wanted it as near as possible to the vinyl release and being in a digipack it's as close as I'm ever going to get as I'm not planning on going back to vinyl anytime soon.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The best of the Deluxe Reissues
*by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 11 September 2015*

The best of the Deluxe Reissues by a mile. The original album still sounds decidedly sketchy, although there are underrated tracks on it such as 'Darlene'. However, the extras contain some really pleasant surprises from across the breadth of their career, and the price is almost worth it alone for the mixes on Disc 2 and the superb 'Travelling Riverside Blues' (from a BBC session), and 'Hey, Hey, What Can I Do'. The Bombay Orchestra tracks on Disc 3 will not be to all fans' tastes, but I found them intriguing. If you thought 'Coda' was just a contractual rush job, and a somewhat inglorious end to Led Zeppelin's career, this Jimmy Page re-issue just about redeems it. I would guess that even Robert Plant would be quite happy with it.
