This is the first one I've ever had and it works fine. We've taken it in the boat, but my grandaughter like to hang it off the dock. Her catch HAS improved so it I guess this works.

Good enough for the price. Still has some possibilities for improvement.
So far I've tried it for one day only. Used on my kayak.Pros:1) It works well, bottom is detected reliably. Difficult to say if fish is detected reliably - the water was not transparent to verify the results:(2) It works well even if the sensor is put inside of my kayak - the best option in my case. Just set it on the plastic flour - the readings were exactly the same as in case of the sensor placed in the water.3) Operation is simple and obviousCons:1) Left button works badly - I have to press it several times to have a result. Will send for replacement, hope that next item will work fine.2) it would be nice to have some way to easily attach the finder body to the boat - difficult to use it when it rolls over my laps and kayak.3) documentation is missing reliable specification. I.e. I found some mention about waterproof design on Amazon page, but not in enclosed manual.May be some arm/lap band.I will update my review later when get more experience.

It specifically says that it works for ice fishing, and it doesn't. It doesn't work that well in general either. In other words... DO NOT BUY!

Excellent showing bottom contour
Tried it out yesterday, I made a homemade mount to hold the unit and one to mount it on the side of my canoe (out of a piece of broom stick and C clamp. Excellent showing bottom contour, drop offs and rock piles, showing were the fish were. Only thing it was showing the water temperature at 80* it was probably around 65 to 70*. But I really haven't messed with the setting in depth, just did a quick set up to get out fishing.
