Maybe the best of the wind-ups?
To add a little detail to the other reviews, there are a number of things that stand out with this product when compared with some of the other, cheaper wind-up alarm clocks. First, one would expect to have to adjust the fast/slow setting, as the mechanism is naturally going to loosen up over the first couple of days, and probably was not set very accurately at the factory. All understandable. I was amazed to find that for the past 2 days that I've had it, it's kept time within 1 minute! (Your mileage may vary). One of my other clocks I've been tweaking for days trying to get it to within 5 min over 24 hrs.Second, the wind-up key has a nice full shape, rather than the typical flat metal. It is easy to turn, feels much smoother than others, and one wind-up is good for 36 hours, as opposed to a little over 24 hrs for the others. I've had them stop overnight because I didn't wind them up super-tight.Third, the construction is very unique, and high quality. I was surprised by its shape - it looks like a miniature wash basin with a glass bottom and is all metal, robust construction - a very handsome retro look. It is also a good size - quite visible, but not too big.I also like the way the alarm is set on a separate, smaller dial. This avoids sometimes misreading the alarm hand as the time. And yes, it will wake the dead.

Terrible clock
This alarm clock keeps good enough time to wake you up. Expect to have to tweak the fast slow settings on the back. I have mine running fast and have tuned it to almost perfect time keeping only a few seconds off. Adjust in small increments. Only weird thing about it is the seconds hand stops when you wind it and then starts going again when you let off the key. Overall for the money, its pretty darn good. Its not made in America but its made by an American company so that is ok. Probably the best clock you can get on amazon for that price. The ticking is loud but for me that helps me sleep.Update 2 days later. The clock is loosing 20 minutes an hour. Unbelievable. Do NOT BUY THIS buy a german one

Retro Alarm Clock
My wife asked for a mechanical alarm clock. She didn't like the lighted clocks or the wimpy alarms. This one caught my attention so I ordered it. It keeps good time--it lost only one minute in the first week. The clock has no lights and needs no batteries. The alarm is LOUD. She likes it.

Does it’s job.
Not too bad. Needed an alarm clock that could actually wake me up. It does that job pretty well, as the bells are crazy loud. Upon initial inspection appears to be pretty cheap. Brass is pretty thin. Very light weight, but for the price I expected this. My only complaint is that all the winding keys on the back are super close together. I would need the smallest hands on earth in order to wind and set the clock without busting my knuckles on the other winding keys

actual review
it's functional out of the box, i've only had it for half a day and so far it seems to keep time accurately. it is definitely cheaply made. It is tin or some other cheap thin metal, but in my opinion the casing isn't what is important, it doesn't look horrible. the bells have a tinny sound to them but are loud enough to wake you up, the length of alarm duration will depend on how much you wind the alarm but should be sufficiently long enough to wake you. I can't judge the internal mechanisms, there doesn't seem to be a way of opening it up without destroying the clock, but i would surmise that the gears are plastic and not metal. If this clock stops working in the near future I will update.UPDATE: well almost a month later its still working but i have yet to get it to keep accurate time. No matter what i seem to do within 24 hours it is a few minutes fast or slow.UPDATE 2: 2/20/2022 the clock still works but it took this long to fine tune it to the point where it keeps fairly accurate time.UPDATE 3: 4/12/22 the clock still works but its back to not keeping accurate time, there must be some issue within the mechanism that isn't functioning right.

Did not run on initial setup, not 1982 Kmart quality
This supposedly "Bulova" (Chinese version) is NOT theesame build quality as the same branded alarm clock from Kmart circa 1982.Wound it up and it did not run, tier is something large rollng aropkdrthe inside of the clock, oroabnlk a portion of the clockwork mechanism. The alarm did go off when I moved the alarm time to the time on the non-running clock and the alarm was loud with a metalloc sound from the bells. All the knobs on the back are plastic and rake some pressure to turn, and will likely break within a month from the torque. One comeswoff very easily and has to be reseated.I wanted this for my 86 year old Dad so he could set it in the morning for Doctor appointments later in the day since he naps so much.... smartphones areenot an opton somce he lost ontersr in technology when he fot a DVD plaier with a remote in rhe,1990s... he could never remember to changes the input or channel onethe TV.Want to avoid negative reviews? Since a $100 bill is worh abot $20 in 1982, build a better alarm clock with metal knobs, soldered onto metal shafts for wondong and time as well as alarm setting then charge me $100. If it is built well and works well, I will not feel cheated. I expect little out of anjting costing less than $100 since that is the new $20. Try giving $20 to a teenage boy to take a girl on a date. See? I am right as always.

Works!
I use this as a backup if my phone doesn't charge overnight and dies. Wind up each day and done. Just know that it is an old school wind up mechanical clock. It isn't as accurate as a digital clock or fine clockwork. It is today the same thing something similar would have been in the 1970s: Good for every day use. Every few days you might need to adjust time slightly and the alarm is +/- a couple of minutes because the scale is small and imprecise, but can be refined over time. Reliable getaway me up in the morning!
