A Hungarian Nabob by Maurus Jokai, Fiction, Political, Action & Adventure, Fantasy Paperback – November 1, 2007

I just took a trip to Hungary and read this book while there. A definite period piece which might not appeal to everyone. I found it a good storyline and quick read. Lots of humor and historical context. Very visual.

A bit of insight into the Hungarian culture and into human nature. Mr. Mor is easy to read even though the characters are somewhat alien.If you want something different this is the book for you.

It is better in original Hungarian.

Mor Jokai is one of the best known and most loved and respected Hungarian authors. I enjoyed the English translation.

An entertaining and informative period story written by the best Hungarian romantic author, whose life overlapped these fascinating so called "reform years" of 1820s/30s. Fascinatingly well resarched - see the long references and notes. Pity Kárpáthy Zoltán is not available in English.
