Good navigation, but safety feature are a pain!
If i hadn't gotten a few amazon gift cards for Christmas, i probably wouldn't have bought this, due to the fact that you can get a navigation deck for $300-400 and they want $250 for the add on navi. I have it hooked up to the Avh-P3200dvd. Installation was fairly easy, plan on putting it somewhere very easily accessible (I'll explain in a bit)When i first installed it and drove around for a bit, i realized that the Avic-U220 bypasses the parking brake bypass that I installed on the 3200dvd. So i can no longer view movies while driving. The easy solution to this, is to have the U220 unplugged (out of its cradle) before you start your car. After you start your car and the deck powers up, plug the U220 into its cradle and then the parking break bypass will still work, and you'll be able to view movies (thats why i installed it below the shifter in my car). I've done research and found that others have used a PAC TR7 module and had it setup to have a 5 second delay before powering up the U220.The second thing that i dont like about the U220 is that it has an accelerometer/gyroscope that knows when you're going faster than 10mph and you cannot enter destinations or search for POI's until you go slower than 10mph. Hopefully someone will figure out how to bypass the accelerometer/gyroscopes, but i doubt it.I like the idea of being able to add on navigation to my deck, but i wish i would have just waited and purchased one of pioneers higher-end navigation decks, instead of adding bluetooth and navigation on to a base model.

Works fine - similar quality images as an OEM head unit
I bought this item used on Amazon and it works just fine. I uodated the POI's to over 12 miliion with the free update you get for registering the product with Pioneer. It does work fine and as advertised, but the video/picture quality could be sharper. It is not as good as other source inputs on my new 2012 Pioneer DVD receiver. Actually, this is not specific to this item, I have seen the same effect when using nav even on top-end head units that have it built in - even OEM factory car units. So, no better than OEM picture quality and the price was right. Now of course, I have it back out of the car so I can use my iPhone and MotionX through the special cable I also got - see separate review. Too bad you have to choose from either that cable or this unit for a single connection to the back of my new 2012 Pioneer DVD head unit (8400).

Good unit
The unit is good but a little pixilated coming from a AVIC head unit. That's because information is carried using an IP BUS. Just know that it is faster ( starts up right away) but it's not as clean/clear.

Does not work outside of USA
When I am buying this I asked the reseller if I can use it outside of USA or not. He said he doesnt know and I should make my decision on my own risk. I bought it, unfortunately it does not work outside of USA :(( I can say that the device was easy to install and map looks quite good. However I couldnt use it.

Poor resolution and system, old maps
Very poor resolution (400 x 272) while compared to the in-dash (800 x 400) of the Pioneer compatible AHV-P8400. Screen looks like its and old VGA monitor, with choppy images. Just doesn't make sense as Pioneer points this as the compatible product and image is so disappointing when you turn on the GPS.The aplication itself is also quite poor - very limited functionality, specially if compared to stand alone models in the same price range.Last, maps are REALLY outdated. 1 and 2 years? There should be option to have at least 3 months old, which is what major vendors release their map bases.

Works well
Works very well! I do service and repair work and have to drive to multiple unknown destinations every day. This unit gets me there every time. I like the fact that the screen is not cluttered with icons that I don't care about. The unit also tells you how efficiently you are driving, which is a must for my business. I would highly recommend this product.
