Bare Floor Beast
I admit I have been a vacuum snob in the past but now I can't justify spending a load of my hard earned money on an appliance that no one sees. My last three vacuums have been Dyson uprights. We now have tile throughout our home and the last All-Floor Dyson just did not perform as advertised - not to mention it refused to lock in a stand up position 75% of the time (which Dyson couldn't seem to correct after warranty repairs). So enters a much less expensive alternative to the over-priced Dyson. Just think about it...what do you want the vacuum to do? Pick up debris, right? This little machine picks up EVERYTHING - leaves, paper bits, etc. Dyson wouldn't do that unless you used the attachment tube which is a pain to pull out every time you came across that sort of debris. Not to mention weight. You can hardly feel this little guy following you around. That is one of the reasons I changed to uprights many years ago. The canister vacs were so cumbersome to lug around and the hoses would stretch and then you turned over the unit or caught it around a corner. This one stays right with you. Another feature I love is that you can get under all of your furniture with this head which none of my other vacuums could manage. Now for loudness... I guess I am from a different generation - vacuums are loud. I don't care what they advertise. If the family doesn't like it tell them to turn off the tv, get out of that recliner or bed and help you clean. Simple solution. Love the fact you can take the extension tube off and use the hose to clean blinds or filters. You couldn't do that with a Dyson upright. I paid $50 for this vacuum through Amazon Warehouse because the box was damaged. Love Warehouse Deals! I have never gotten anything that is actually used. Just damaged boxes. If this vacuum only lasts a couple of years, so what, I still come out ahead. I can use my old vacuum attachments on it. No fancy bells or whistles, just does what it is suppose to do - suck dirt. Cord was a little short for my house but I just added a 10 ft black extension cord ( C2G / Cables to Go 03116 18 AWG Outlet Saver Power Extension Cord) and taped it together with black electrical tape to keep it from pulling apart and it is perfect. Once you rewind cord just double up the extension and stick under the handle on back of unit. Neat little package. Yes the attachments are lightweight and just slip on but they perform well. Carpets - no. I don't suggest this unit for carpets. Maybe a throw rug, but the volume of suction and the floor attachment do no mix well for sliding on carpeting. If you need a vacuum for bare floors you don't need to spend a fortune. Go ahead and try this one. I think you will like it.

Perfect for a small apartment
I have had a studio apartment for the past three months as a temporary residence for work away from home half time. Without a vacuum, things have been getting progressively worse, especially with the dog who is staying with me. I thought of hiring someone to come in to clean but decided to give this inexpensive little vacuum a try.It arrived today and boy am I impressed! The bedroom / living area, 12 X 16 feet, is carpeted. With the brush in the head extended, it removed about two cups of "dirt"; including everything from the fine power form of dirt, to the chunkier variety and a good amount of pet hair as well. The carpet looked great after this 10 minute trial. I found that short back-and-forth strokes were most effective, in comparison with the longer stroke we use with our $700 vacuum at home which is self-propelled. But this was easy and very effective.I was amazed how easy it was to empty the dirt canister -- one button pops it off the vacuum and releases the swing-open door allowing you to shake the dirt into the trash container. Then I did the kitchen / entryway / bathroom area. With the brush retracted, this took all of 3 minutes, again retrieving probably one cup of dirt in a wide range of particle sizes.I didn't notice any objectionable odors -- the exhaust goes through a HEPA filter -- and in reading the instructions, they say it can be cleaned simply by flushing with plain water in the sink (do not use detergents) and then air drying for 24 hours. It's a relief to know I won't have to buy disposable bags for this little vacuum.I found retractable cord length to be fully adequate -- from one centrally located 2-pronged outlet, I was able to vacuum the entire apartment without moving the plug. And the retractable feature is very helpful, though I wish the spring was a bit stronger. In summary, it exceeded my expectations. Well worth the purchase price. Thanks to all of those whose reviews helped me to make the right decision.
