So much good information about the surgery, not just recipes
I know this says the "Complete Idiots Guide" but don't let that turn you away. I bought roughly nine cookbooks and this one by far has the most information on what you'll go through with the surgery, and everything to expect after. It also has several good recipes.

Great WLS Resource
I got my copy of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Eating well after WLS. It is a great resource for anyone who has had WLS or is contemplating WLS. It gives insight to all WLS options and the special nutritional guidelines that each procedure needs. It includes many great ideas and recipes for both WLS patients and those just wanting to eat healthier. This book included many support group websites and blogs. I would recommend this book to any new WLS patient or anyone considering WLS.

Very thorough!
I was surprised when I began reading this book. Expected it to be more of just a cookbook, but the level of detail is amazing and specific! A great reference guide and helpful tool when someone wants to know everything they can about the affects of the surgeries on their body. Can open a good avenue of conversation with your surgeon, both before and after surgery, to help you address any concerns or issues....but also help you to understand something the doc said without asking him/her for a lecture. A must-have book for those considering bariatric surgery or those who just had it.

I have decided to die.
Illuminates the terrain you are in.Adult diapers, baby food, portable blender, directions to the nearest trama center if you exceed your limits before peritonitis sets in, no liquid 30 minutes+ before or after the "golf ball size meal" and don'forget to carry air sick bags with a change of clothes!Forgot? The flab removal and belly button alignment surgery if you survive?Get this book (and many more good ones from Amazon.com) before you make your decision: it is irreversible! If you have co-mobity issues: Diabetes, high blood pressure, physical disabilitys from injuries preventing the OLYMPIC "exercise" program and about $100.00 @ day on vitamins/supplements/ special foods.IT'S A WONDERFUL OBESE LIFE!I'll take the 4-5 years instead or less without it?Or Put me in a coma with a lapband and a nose feeding tube for 6 months on Michael Jackson's favorite drug and wake me when it's over?

Good Recipes!
Really great, easy and tasty recipes. Helps us meal plan and save money because we're not eating out. I'm a lot closer to my macros & protein requirements recommended by my bariatric nutritionist.

Great Nutritional Information - So-so Recipes
While the nutritional information in this book is stellar, the recipes leave something to greatly be desired for all weight loss surgery patients: protein. Some of the recipes actually have as little as 2 grams of protein, which is simply not acceptable for a person who now has a tiny pouch to put food into, and gives the appearance of being "weight loss surgery friendly recipes" when in fact, with only 2g of protein, they are anything but. The recipes that are protein based are exceptional however, and one of my favorites being the Honey-Soy-Glazed Salmon (which is not at all glazed, but quite yummy). The nutritional information, again, is stellar: from information about each surgery, the various macro-nutrients, vitamins and minerals, food labels, and information on success and weight regain, this book is exceptionally complete.I would not buy this book for the recipes alone, but rather for the information in the first half of the book, which I have continually referenced back to.

Excellent resource for Weight Loss Surgery at any stage
I was waiting for The Complete Idiot's Guide to Eating Well After WLS to be released with great anticipation. I have read Ms. Furtado's previous book and many articles she has written so I was anxious to read this book. This book exceeded my expectations. It is an excellent book. It is a superb resource for anyone considering weight loss surgery, support persons, pre-ops and post-ops alike. There is information for anyone at any stage of the weight loss surgery process. I am a post-op since 2001 and I find it invaluable personally and professionally. I conduct weight loss surgery trainings in my job and the information Ms. Furtado shares in her book is very complete.I recommend this book highly.

More dietary info for pre op meals would be good. Especially with the restrictions
More dietary info for pre op meals would be good. Especially with the restrictions, how to cook and what items are acceptable for cooking., I.e. coconut, olive etc
