A beautiful vinyl LP re-issue!
I won't take the time here to reiterate why this is such an essential Donna Summer album release. But instead, I'd like to focus specifically on the 30th Anniversary vinyl edition. In my opinion, the 2-LP version is the perfect balance between the original album and the remixes + unreleased content. LP1 contains the 1989 disc in its entirety, while the second LP presents a great sampling of various remixes, along with a few unreleased tracks. This results in a generous sampling of different versions of each single without the repetitive bloat normally associated with this type of release. The album artwork is simply gorgeous! The gatefold cover features a matte finish with high-gloss accents for the 30th Anniversary banner and Donna’s name. A very nice touch. The inside displays a strikingly beautiful “retouched” photo I’ve never seen before, along with both the original and reissue album credits. LP1 is pressed on bright white vinyl, and LP2 is pressed on deep red vinyl. Both discs are 180g and appear to be a quality pressing. I inspected each disc carefully, and didn’t find any “visible” flaws or defects. All in all, if you’re a fan of Donna’s or this album, this is the definitive version to own.

The queen of Disco soul
What I like about this CD, is the 30th anniversary of this CD. And Donna Summer is one of my all-time female artist of the old school era. I love when they added, Love's about to change my heart. This time I know it's for real, the different versions. And also that 12 inch version mix, this is a must have 30th anniversary for those Donna Summer fans. I saw her concert and she was magnificent, I'm a photographer and I took so many angles of her. When my best shots that I took of Donna Summers, was when she came up from the floor with the crystal ball over her it takes you back.

A true Donna classic album, reissued with never before released remixes and long versions! A must!
What a Superb reissue! I’m over the moon. Several versions of these remixes have never been released before. Some of the radio edits seem unnecessary, but the extended mixes are worth buying this huge collection. Excellent liner notes and back story on the recording and production of the album. This is truly a collector’s collection.

YOU WILL DANCE ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT
I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED DONNA SUMMER... BUT THIS CD WAS MY FAVORITE, AND I CAN SEE NOW IT MUST HAVE BEEN MANY OTHER PEOPLE's FAVORITE TO BE RELEASED IN THIS WONDER FULL 3 CD SET WITH ALL THE AMAZING MIXES AND UNRELEASED MATERIAL. I CAN CLEAN MY HOUSE TWICE AS FAST WITH THIS CD ON AND I CAN DANCE AT THE SAME TIME. VERY SORRY TO LOSE HER, BUT THIS 30TH ANNIVERSARY VERSION MAKES ME SMILE, AND I'M SURE DONNA WOULD SMILE ALSO.THANKS DONNA FOR EVERYTHING.

New material of poor quality
If you have already bought 2014's expended edition, don't bother to buy this one because it would be a waste of money. The only interesting unreleased mix is the Pete Hammond's 12" version of LATCMY (which you can download via Google Play and other legal platforms). Apart from that, it only includes mixes that were already on the 2014 edition, unfinished so-called master mixes as well as 2 mixes of respectively WYHD and IIMYFG, which sound like fan made mixes that only consist of pieces of the album versions edited with pieces of the instrumental versions. As for the megamixes, they remind me some home-made megamixes I did with my tape recorder when I was 12. This "30-years" edition is an insult to Donna's memory, to all talented people that took part to the creation of the original album and, last but not least, to the loyal fans. I don't understand how Bruce Sudano authorised such poor material to be included on an official release.

A Classic S/A/W Album, Expanded To The Max
This is probably one of the best albums Stock/ Aitken/ Waterman ever produced. (It is often said any track here could have been a single) and whilst “Another Place And Time” does not offer the level of transcendence that "Bad Girls" (or even "Once Upon A Time") does, it is widely regarded as Donnas’ best studio album that was NOT produced by Giorgio Moroder/ Pete Bellotte (“Another Place And Time”, also has a higher strike rate of goodies than either of the two lesser tier Moroder/ Bellotte produced Donna albums “The Wanderer" and "I'm A Rainbow").Compared to 'Driven By The Music's' prior reissue of this album in 2014, nine instrumentals, two dub mixes and one vocal mix have been omitted and replaced with two newly commissioned extended remixes, retrofitted to sound like they are from 1989.As I already have the 2014 edition of this album, these two mixes were the main enticement for me to purchase this 30th Anniversary package. They are serviceable and exactly what you would expect two PWL extended mixes to sound like. “If It Makes You Feel Good” happens to be my favourite (non single) album track and part of me is satiated to actually now have it in traditional old school 12” extended mix form. Though the two new extended mixes were created from available vocal/ instrumental versions (and additional backing tracks provided by Donnas’ estate) contrary to gossip, these two new mixes are not substandard, there are no “joins” to be heard in either of these two mixes & they were not only commissioned and approved by Donna’s estate, they were also officially approved by PWL as well!An officially approved mega-mix is also present twice, once in extended form (containing: “This Time I Know It’s For Real”, “I Don’t Wanna Get Hurt”, “The Only One” & “Love’s About To Change My Heart [Reprise]”) and once in edit form (omitting “The Only One” and the Reprise of “Love’s About To Change My Heart”). There is also a previously unreleased 1989 Pete Hammond 12" Mix of "Love's About To Change My Heart" which is rather limp and lacks the punch of both the Phil Harding Extended Remix (and the Clivilles and Cole one), both of which were released in 1989.The three previously unreleased 1989 7” edits of "If It Makes You Feel Good/ Sentimental/ Love's About To Change My Heart" are generic and it is clear why the edits we already know from 89/90 were deemed to have more commercial appeal than these three. There is nothing wrong with them, the production simply lacks the same sparkle as the edits we have known for the last 30 years, their presence here simply acts as filler for a product that seeks to offer slightly different content from the previous 2014 “Another Place And Time” Reissue. It is worth noting that “Love’s About To Change My Heart (Clivilles & Cole 7” Mix)” which I believe most people would consider essential and was indeed present on the 2014 “Another Place And Time” reissue, is now inexplicably absent. However, the two previously, never before released 1989 mixes of "Love's About To Change My Heart" present in this package contain the full additional un-faded out, vocal ad-lib that until now could only be heard during the fade-out of the "(PWL 7" Mix)", which consists of Donna in falsetto repeating the vocal outro of "ooh hoo ooh hoo ooh, change me".It is my understanding (aside from the end fade being shaved slightly), that during the original 1989 studio production for the master of “This Time I Know It’s For Real (7” Single Mix)”, the vocals were made louder with the express purpose of making the track sound punchier during radio play, however modern remastering processes have smoothed out and minimised this alteration making it less apparent.----Previously Unreleased Content New to this 2019 “Another Place And Time” 30th Anniversary EditionUnreleased Tracks from 198901, If It Makes You Feel Good (Dave Ford Unreleased Album Master) [3.19]02, Sentimental (Unreleased Album Long Master) [3.33]03, Love’s About To Change My Heart (Unreleased 7” Long Remix) [5.04]04, Love’s About To Change My Heart (Unreleased 12” Remix) [7.13]--Newly Commissioned Tracks, Especially For This 2019 “Another Place And Time”, 30th Anniversary Edition:01, Whatever Your Heart Desires (New Extended Club Mix) [8.20]02, If It Makes You Feel Good (New Extended Feelgood Mix) [6.46]03, The 30th Anniversary Mega-Mix [12.16]04, The 30th Anniversary Mini-Mix [6.16]--Missing Vocal Mix Available on the 2014 Edition (Absent From This 2019, 30th Anniversary Edition):01, Love's About To Change My Heart (Clivilles & Cole 7" Mix)--Instrumentals and Dubs Available on the 2014 Edition (Absent From This 2019, 30th Anniversary Edition):01, Love's About To Change My Heart (Love Dub) [7.15]02, I Don't Wanna Get Hurt (Instrumental) [4.48]03, When Love Takes Over You (Dave Ford Instrumental) [3.38]04, This Time I Know It's For Real (Instrumental) [3.36]05, The Only One (Instrumental) [3.55]06, Love's About To Change My Heart (Instrumental) [5.16]07, Sentimental (Instrumental) [3.12]08, Whatever Your Heart Desires (Instrumental) [3.54]09, Breakaway (Instrumental Remix - Edit) [3.46]10, If It Makes You Feel Good (Pete Hammond Remix Instrumental) [4.08]11, Love's About To Change My Heart (Dub) [8.29]----The only tracks I would deem worthy additions to this project are the aforementioned ‘new’ retrofitted mixes of "If It Makes You Feel Good (New Extended Feelgood Mix)" and "Whatever Your Heart Desires (New Extended Club Mix)". If you did not previously get the 'Driven By The Music' 2014 exclusive 2 track CD single, then "Love's About To Change My Heart (Loveland's Full-On 12" Vocal)", included here (now part of the standard 2019 package) may also hold some appeal to you. However, is this content worth almost £35? (If you are not a completist then most likely only if you don't already have the previous “Another Place And Time” Reissue from 2014).The new essay for this 30th Anniversary, 2019 Edition - which includes contributions from Pete Waterman, Matt Aitken and Phil Harding is interesting but it is their point of view (not Donnas’), I don't believe the line that beyond the three “Another Place And Time” tracks she contributed to, that Donna was happy to simply take a backseat creatively (particularly as they admit "they fought like cats & dogs over lyrics" and Donna disliked the lyrics to "I Don't Wanna Get Hurt" - yet still sung them). They also don't discuss (at all) the taboo subject of "Happening All Over Again", which (when approaching this essay) I assumed would be the optimal vehicle by which to airbrush history precisely in the way Mike & Pete want it to be seen, instead regret is simply expressed that S/A/W never got to produce a second album for Donna. It is known 'Driven By The Music' (Donnas’ Estate) are in possession of (and have the rights to) a huge wealth of (non Casablanca era) material from the 80's onward including a handful of unreleased 90's dance tracks, some of which (despite being remixed by Junior Vasquez) never saw the light of day in either original or remixed form. There are also rumours of a full, unreleased album for the Sony label from 1999 in the vaults. After the 2014 & 2019 reissues of “Another Place And Time”, I believe it is time for 'Driven By The Music' to start digging far deeper in the archive (than they have done up to now) before commissioning any future catalogue product.

PWL at its very best
Fantastic album back in the day & 30 years later it’s getting the deluxe treatment. The 2 mega mixes are fantastic. A great album that shows of Donna Summer’s vocals & is a credit to the legacy of Mike Stock, Matt Aitken & Pete Waterman.

Happy to have this in my collection
I was surprised to find it's been five years since the previous expanded edition. This new version is to celebrate 30 years since the album originally came out in 1989.CD1 contains the original album, CD2 and CD3 include the 7" and 12" versions along with some previously unreleased material. Among the single versions, the 7" of This Time I Know It's For Real is virtually identical to the album version, it fades out a bit earlier and (apparently) had a studio rework at the time to give it a more radio-friendly pop sound. If they are grouping all the radio versions together, it would be an oversight to omit This Time so I can see why it had to be here even if not remarkably distinctive. The Dave Ford album master of If It Makes You Feel Good and the album master of Sentimental aren't really much different from the versions we know, there's nothing dramatic that stands out as a new mix. Just slightly alternative takes on the album recordings.Whatever Your Heart Desires club mix is much longer (over 8 minutes) with some extra percussion and a more clubby feel. If It Makes You Feel Good feelgood mix is a nice extended version.Pete Hammond's 7" Long Remix of Love's About To Change My Heart has an extended ending with Donna ad-libbing loads of whooping and ooh-ing, while his 12" Remix is a percussive club mix that's more akin to the high-energy disco of the album version than the commercially-released 7" and 12" versions (which were remixed in Italo-house style). The 30th anniversary minimix is a blend of three of the more uptempo radio edits, and the megamix is like a trip back to a late 80s dancefloor, combining four of the songs into what's obviously intended to be a DJ-friendly, club-aimed epic. It's the sort of thing that brings to mind the golden days of gay clubbing at Bromptons or Rockies. All the new material fits the era of the album, there are no modern EDM revamps. Everything here is good, and I'd actually have liked even more new/unreleased material (either based on other album tracks, or demos of other songs), if such things were available. The format of this edition is like a book, and the pages include all the lyrics along with an 8-page exploration of the story of the album which is full of interviews and insights and makes fascinating reading. My feeling is that although we were somewhat spoiled by the long-awaited three-disc edition in 2014, I'm still happy to have this in my collection. A 30th anniversary edition was a great idea and if even just those Hammond mixes of LATCMH had been on some rare promo CD or white label, there would be fans and collectors willing to pay a lot more than the price of this set for those alone.

PURE MAGIC!!
This is one of my fave albums of hers and hearing it now, it does stand the test of time. Everything from the musicians to Donna's vocals and the backing vocals sound much crisper. The remixes are a bit of a let down, I've heard better over the years, but the more I play them, the better they get. A must in anyone's collection and for anyone who likes the S.A.W. sound
