Truly enjoyed this
I was not sure what to expect but the subject was captivating in just how would a parent in the entertainment business handle the prospect of his children entering the same line of work and achieving success so quickly? Dominic Holland has made a new fan with me and I cannot wait to read more of him. I simply love his smart style of humor which encompasses the best of dry humor and a certain unique self deprecating style which never comes off as self pity. The love he has for his family and that they have for each other comes shining through in this book and it is refreshing. That type of love and caring remaining in this family and he and his wife’s determination to protect it just warms the heart especially since these days it is unique (sadly so) to see a family grow closer still when one of the members captures such attention in the entertainment industry. Mr Holland’s openness in his sharing of his own personal success and pitfalls in his career as a standup comic and writer are useful to everyone and his openness of sharing these disappointments and how he traveled through them is helpful to all of us who have had a slide back or a particular disappointment in a chosen career or dream. I laughed out loud in several places and I admit I got a little misty eyed during this book. I have recommended this book to many of my friends and family.

A rare look into a unique lifestyle, told by a hilarious man
if one were to just flatly tell you the premise of this book, you might be tempted to jump to a few different conclusions…none of which are likely very flattering to the author. Fortunately for me, I stumbled upon a sample of it on my e-reader and, without knowing much else about the story, I began to read (and decided to purchase the whole book after only a few pages). This book is so much fun! It’s an easy read, but not because it’s simple. It’s well written by a very funny and humble man whose numerous anecdotes about his son’s catapult to fame and its subsequent effect on their family make for some of the most entertaining reading I’ve done in some time. While the stories he recounts are unique glimpses into a life and lifestyle most of us can only imagine, they also tell the story of a delightfully normal family trying to navigate some of the most mind-boggling circumstances under the sun. I honestly have no idea how long this book is…I just kept swiping left until the epilogue and was sorry for it to end. This book’s greatest strength is that it is genuine. It is true. These are real people with whom I can relate. I typically don’t much trust what happens in Hollywood, but honestly think this family stands a chance of bucking the norm and turning out ok. Case in point…After acting in a Ron Howard film, Tom went to carpentry school for heaven’s sake…”just in case”. I highly recommend this book to just about anyone, and have been finding Dom’s blog equally as amusing.

Thoroughly enjoyed
I became aware of Tom Holland through the MCU, as most probably did, and was immediately impressed by his work, but it was only after I watched "The Impossible" that I felt like there was something really extraordinary about him. I found this book after doing a little digging, and after reading it I came to appreciate just how much and how hard Tom worked to achieve his current level of success. It is a truly remarkable story, and the dad's sense of humor in comparing his own experiences adds enormously to the telling. It is such an interesting book, and so compellingly written, that I can even forgive it the normally unpardonable sin of being wildly out of chronological order. It reads more like a collection of stories with a common theme, especially toward the beginning. My favorite stories were the ones that centered on the whole family and their reactions to being swept up in Tom's journey. I know the author has stated he won't write a sequel, but I can't help feeling there have to be similar stories from the years since "The Impossible". But of course, whether he decides to share his family's stories with the world is up to him! I'm grateful he has decided to share these.

You don't have to know who Tom Holland is to love this book!
I read every day on the way to work, and this is defiantly one I will remember. reading this book was like sitting in a coffee shop with a loving father, talking about his adventures. His adventures growing up, his adventures in show business, his adventures in marriage and fatherhood and of course his adventure watching in son get swept up in show business. I coincidently read this as I was going through film school and it felt like it was part of the course. My teacher would say that 1% of us would make it in Hollywood and so many kids would roll their eyes. but in this book, you can really feel what fighting for your spotlight is like. Between the hilarious coincidences in Dom's and Tom paths, to every time Dom gave Tom bad advice about interacting with celebs. You can really feel Dom's love for his family and what he does. I love how you get to go backstage to both of their Careers as you learn about the hard times, perseverance, honesty and hummer. I have literally burst out laughing in the middle of the train while reading this book but also feel the true struggle of what most artists go through even people who are well known in the British comedy circle like dom is, but thats what this world does to you they give you an impossible goal to reach and it always feels like an uphill climb and it is never what it seems on the outside.Dom wrote this book during Tom's first movie role, which I love for many reasons. (1) he is so young and new to the movie world. So you get to read through all the first. (2) your right there with them and they have no idea how long this adventure will last. (3) I am a huge fan of learning how things became the way they are it is crazy peaking into the mind of a father watching his little boy do extraordinary once in a lifetime things, and better yet things that he has always wanted to do himself.Read this book if you are interested in either Dom or Tom, in show business, or becoming a comedian, if you want a crazy family adventure or adventuring into parenthood yourself. there are so many reasons to read this book all are valid and all will make you love this book!- Amelia Kirsh

If You Love Tom Holland Buy This Book.
Fascinating book, probably best for a Weekend, because you will not be able to put it down.Wonderful insights into Tom Holland's background, and an exciting read.It is a shame that even now at the writing of this review Dominic Holland does not appear to even begin to fully comprehend what a brilliant Star his Son is destined to become. Tom Holland will literally be more famous than Bill Gates, perhaps not quite as rich! But definitely more famous. The hardest thing for Dominic Holland I suspect is going to be letting go, perhaps he already has; but I found the comments relating to Tom's Management very telling. Dominic is a talented writer, and doubtless very able at his craft, but he should know his limits.Let Tom be Managed by the greatest on Earth, and the World will remember his name, far beyond anything even Tom would dare to dream. Destiny will have her way no matter what, it is best to work with her, because she Will Not be denied.

A worthy read
I read this book probably why a lot of people my age will. A sheer fascination about Tom Holland and what his upbringing must have been like to produce such an eclectic enigma in the world of Hollywood. Dominic is very typically British and his use of sarcasm will be lost on those who find the book offensive or egotistical. He's very much a proud dad and who wouldn't be when his son has achieved more than most people can ever dream of at his age and in a country where Disney kids aren't mass produced (much to my dismay being a 90s kid obsessed by with all things disney)It's such a good read and an amazing insight into their family life but some parts I found didn't engage with me at all whether it is because I'm yet to have kids and cant relate I don't know

A testament to his talent of storytelling
Having purchased this book from following Dominic’s blog, I absolutely love it! His perspective as a father is heartfelt, contributing to how personal and refreshingly honest Eclipsed is.Reading about the work he has done over the years is fascinating - his resilience and enthusiasm for it is something to be admired. As someone who managed to stumble across Billy Elliot and The Impossible on TV, hearing the behind the scenes has also been a joy to read.Written with great humour, honesty and immense pride for his family, this is a wonderful book and a testament to his talent of storytelling. I look forward to reading more of his work in the future and continuing to follow his blog.

Great Read
A very readable insight into the film industry as comedian and writer Dominic Holland charts the luck and hard work of his son Tom as he moves from toddler dancer to the West End stage in the title role of Billy Elliot, then just as he is set to return to 'normal' life back at school, he is cast in his early teens in the true story The Impossible - how a family survived the 2004 Tsunami in Thailand.Dominic reflects on the fact that his stand up comedy career has plateaued and his attempts at successfully submitting his own scripts to Hollywood are eclipsed by son Tom's casting as the new Spider-Man.An honest, funny and insightful story by a proud father.

A heartwarming and hilarious read
Eclipsed tells the fascinating true story of how UK comedian Dominic Holland found himself being upstaged by his eldest son, Tom Holland - probably best known for playing the web-slinging Marvel superhero Spider-Man. I stumbled across this book by chance and absolutely loved it. Essentially two stories in one, the tale veers between Dominic's career on the comedy circuit and young Tom's first forays into the showbiz world of stage and film. As a musical lover, I was really interested to discover more about what it takes to be cast in the title role of the West End musical, Billy Elliot, and was equally gripped by the behind-the-scenes account of the Oscar-winning film, The Impossible. Witty and painfully honest, Eclipsed is both intriguing and really funny. A great read.
