Interesting, but I'm highly skeptical.
If you're going to carry a plastic sheet, a Mylar sheet, and a sheet of parachute cloth, an ax, and or a saw, why not just carry a tent of any kind? It would have been nice to see actual pictures of implementing it. And, I'm really curious to how long the propylene sheet window will last against embers. It all sounds like one big fire hazard to me. Now you're stranded out in the woods with plastic burns.

Tent without a rent
This book covers the idea of a tent without a tent. The "super shelter" is a means to provide shelter in an outdoor adverse environment using basic items. A good read for both new and experienced outdoors enthusiasts or those needing a home away from home.

Finally! Usable information!
For a $1.99 and an estimated 30 minute read I didn't expect much but when he called a shelter a super shelter I got the book mostly for a chuckle. I've been in the wilderness all my life, I've long line trapper in Michigan and South Dakota and have always been interested in wilderness survival and living. Most of the books I read today I've already been there and done that and so I really didn't expect to get anything from this book.I WAS WRONG! Now, that was hard to say but this book gave me insights into things I had not before considered and taught me to look at things in different angles and in ways I've never considered before. I don't care if you own 50 survival- wilderness living books....they all rehash basically the same information don't they? Well get this one! It will open up a new world.

Well worth the small price!
I must admit that at first glance, I was disappointed with Mr. Kochanski's book - my expectation was for a detailed, step-by-step direction on making "the" Super Shelter. But then I slowed down and really read the book, and was astounded at the depth of information provided. Plans are indeed suggested, but these might change depending on circumstance. Mr. Kochanski provides the reader with the right background knowledge to assemble the right supplies for a potential emergency shelter before leaving for a trip, based on potential weather, geography, and party size. These considerations are rooted in the science behind the human need for shelter, for a great understanding of WHY, not just HOW.For the small asking price, this will be a GREAT addition to my survival e-library!! Thanks so much!

A Survival Kit Shelter, The Super Shelter and Some of It's Variants
Gives you the instructions and reasoning behind the super shelter. one basic configuration and a few different ways to achieve that configuration. is a good basic shelter, I would not use it for a overnight or short stay unless very cold and you had the CORRECT materials ready for it. Also constructed as in this article, you need a lot of wood (both large logs and saplings) Most of this can be made with a little modern materials and cordage.See David Canterburys' YouTube video on shelters to see a useable variation and he even refers to Mors Kochanski and this book when he talks about the modified supershelter he puts up.

Protect your life for pennies.
The Super Shelter is made with a Mylar reflector blanket, a bit of tarp material and some transparent plastic, like a shower curtain, and some cord. That is it. The essential items are cheap and readily available. The booklet shows how to quickly and easily put together a shelter that will give you a temperature differential from outside to inside the shelter of 40+ degrees. That is amazing. Every man, woman and child should know how to make such a shelter. it can be a life saver.

Not a lot of information
Some of the information here is potentially useful, but it is brief on details. Much of what is there is on the order of telling the reader what can be done, but little on how to do it.

Great concept for survival shelters
This book while not very long is packed with many great ideas for survival shelter building using minimal materials for maximum warmth and durability of the shelter. I am going to try out some of these ideas on my next camping trip.

Excellent Supplement to his Bushcraft Book
This is a great addition to his best-selling Bushcraft book, and it goes unto lots of detail about insulation and shelter materials in addition to the shelter plans. While it could be used as a stand-alone guide it's better suited as a supplement to his other writings. I keep the Kindle copy on my phone at all times. I've also built a few of these shelters and they are marvelous for staying warm and comfortable.

Useful and informative.
Although I learned how to make a quick shelter that can be constructed in very few minutes without tools and what is at hand from a north American first nation survival course, this book provides many ideas and tricks for shelters that you can build should you have to stay in the woods for longer periods than just a few days. Much of what is taught can also be applied in and around the house or at work. I give the content A+. However I would like to buy the hard copy since taking electronics with you in the woods is not always practical and internet is rarely available in remote areas to view this Kindle book.
