Excellent game for people who like to get into character!
This game was perfect for my group of friends! Our first game had an odd number of players so we used the Courtesan variant and it was all so silly and fun! Great for any group of people who enjoy roleplaying/really getting into character. I played as a "Gentleman" and my fiance played as my "Lady" which made for some very hilarious moments. He handed me two fans and asked me to pick the one "that I thought would look best on him" then later he threw a tantrum when I bought him "a knock-off parasol" and "the other ladies have designer parasols!" I had no idea what he was talking about or why any of it was important which just made the game even more silly. It pokes fun at Victorian ideals and gender stereotypes in a way that should have everyone chuckling by the end. I think this game has serious replayability because I am so eager now to try out the "Lady" side of it, as well as test out the role of "Courtesan" and also use the "Gossip" variant. I gave it four stars because the instructions were a little unclear at the beginning and it took us a LOT more time to set up and thoroughly understand than it should have (but hey, that could be on us!) which I think would be a deterrent for people who aren't as into board games as we are. But now that we've played it once and have an okay handle on it, we're excited to play again!

So hopefully an anime didn't do me wrong.
I bought this for a sister of mine after seeing the anime After School Dice Club. And I thought she'd enjoy it.

and discretely hint at how marvelous it make your much finer clothes look
The one thing you need to know before playing this game (aside from the rules) is that you need to be as catty as possible to the other teams, but in a civilized way.Complement your friends on how thrifty they are with such meager earnings. Or how you are so surprised at how they adequately turned their dress from ugly to slightly above average with the addition of a few cheap baubles. Ask them what their secret is to get the most out of such drab cloth, and discretely hint at how marvelous it make your much finer clothes look.Seriously, you need to be as politely insulting during the entire game as possible. It's great fun.Otherwise, the rules of this game are very complex but it helps to realize that the game is essentially two very different games happening at the same time. So learn one side of the game at a time to make it easier. Also, I do agree that some of the ladies side tokens are way too close in color. Pink vs salmon anyone?

Play it. Just. Play. It.
The game is hilariously fun. My friends and I had a blast on our first play through, despite being a little shaky on the rules. I've only experienced playing from the Gentleman's side so far, but I do know that it has a sense of frantic fun to it, searching desperately through the resources for the ones you want. The most entertaining part was interacting with everyone else in character, not just during the game, but before and after it too. I had two different men playing as Ladies put on a dress in order to get into character. It's rules are simple and engaging, allowing for play with people of all ages, and it is easy to learn during the first time through. Most importantly, it is both fun and engaging. I could not possibly recommend this game more.

A hidden gem for party games
This game was definitely a success at our game night! We had a plan to have a marathon of games by playing each one once and ended up playing this one three times in a row. At first it is hard to see where strategy would come in, but it does get more involved the longer you play. It's a relatively quick game with good pace to keep everyone active. Plus the illustrations are super cute!

I felt like the Belle of the Ball
In Ladies and Gentlemen, you play as one half of a couple, playing against other couples. I have played twice now, once as a Gentleman and once as a Lady. As a Gentleman I earn resources in the morning, fulfill contracts and sell resources in the afternoon, and buy pretty things for my darling Lady in the evening. As a Lady I determined what my favorite shop would have for sale, what was in the window of it, which shop I wanted to visit, what I wanted from each shop, and asked my darling husband to buy me expensive things. It was a ton of fun. Highly recommended.

Super fun game for a med to large sized group
I've played this game about 5 times now, and I love it! I run a weekly boardgame night and this has been one of the most successful games to be played so far. The game is relatively quick to learn and once you know the rules a typical game last about 45 minutes. What really makes the game fun is when players get into the characters get into the characters and play as their well-to-do lady or gentlemen. Highly recommended for a group that has around 6 regular players, and ones that can adopt the roles.

Be sure to read the book
This was a gift for some friends of ours whom are board game collectors. We originally thought we could play it that evening, but the instruction booklet is VERY long. We still haven't played it, but the game looks interesting and would work well for 4-6 people. Anything smaller wouldn't work properly. They were very pleased with their gift!
