Captain Nobody

This had come recommended highly by a group of moms online... OMG what a bunch of idiots. This reads like a novelization of a Nickelodeon straight-to-TV movie, right down to the cliche neglectful parents and diverse wise-quipping friends. Worse, this book not only hinges its narrative tension on an incredibly cheap plot device, but it also requires completely suspended disbelief of how both journalism and medical science work. It's a painfully slow read until 2/3 of the way in, full of forced navel-gazing that gives children no credit for understanding how the real world functions. My kid didn't like it, either.

I bought this book because my daughter is in 3rd grade and she chose this book to read it, she really liked. It is about a child that his parent were taking care of his older brother that was in a coma and he was almost alone at home and he started using his imagiantion and decided to dress up as Captain Nobody and get in some adventures with his new superheroe outfit.

Such a great book! My 9 year old son and I loved it!

This books story will captivate the most reluctant readers. I used this as a read aloud for my fifth grade class and they all fell in love with it. It masterfully uses comedy as it deals with some pretty serious issues such as being awkward, living in the shadow of other siblings, and dealing with a sibling's major injury. I have purchased and lost this book several times but I love to have it on my classroom shelf.

My 10 year old daughter usually doesn't like reading, but she read keeps re-reading this book and raves it as the best book ever. I haven't seen her this excited so I'm guessing that this is really a fun story that captures her imagination.I bought the paperback and now wish I had bought the kindle version since the book is already wearing out.Part of the Virginia young reader program and strongly recommended.
