I love this movie...I read the book after I saw the movie and I don't give a darn about incongruities. The book is great...so is the movie and by now I don't expect the twain to meet very often...They are different and each has their own qualities.For me though, the movie turns the heat way up...I have had that love that Janey talks about and expresses...especially in the harmonica kiss scene...the look on Tea Cakes face...yep...that's what it's all about.Some never have that, never know what it is...In many ways the final sentiments of the story remind me of the movie Kama Sutra..in which the heroines lover also dies...having touched that kind of incredible passionate love and lost it was heartbreaking for sure...but to let the loss negate the message of the love, by becoming devastated by the loss, would have been much worse...The gift that the male lovers in both movies gave the women cannot be killed. In Kama Sutra the woman walks into the evening sky saying something like "my heart is as vast as the sky"...Janey's sentiments are similar...and she reminds us to keep watching God.

Dvd clean and new condition

This DVD was very reasonably priced, and it was a nice story. The story is one that I studied in an English class, and I thought that it would be nice to see it on film. It was a very good rendition of the book. There may have been a few elements left out, but there is no way to include every detail in a book from a movie.. The message and characters of the story were played well by Halle Berry, Michael Ealy, Rubin Santiago, Ruby Dee, Terrence Howard and others. It is not your average film, it has a lot of metaphors, which like the book, were engaging.

It's one of those movies that I wanted to keep in my personnel library.

I saw this movie on YouTube several years ago and wanted to see it again. I wish they offered it in digital form. Great love story

I have been searching for this movie for about ten years, when i received it in the mail i wanted to cry. this movie is a real chick flick but with a kick. I got my significant other to watch it with me and it's one of his favorite movies. It just makes you want to fall in love or work on the love you once thought you had. It also reminds you that anything is possible. I just love love love this movie

This is a great movie; there are a lot of nuances that depict "the way it used to be way back when". All the sexism and taboo concerning independent women was very real. The only glamorized part is that we didn't look so good with muddy swill all over our clothing and face; and our hair did not glow with tight silken curls when we sweated from the fields. It got real nappy, coarse-drawn up and dusty-dry. That is why most of the time the women wore some type of head wrap...

Good dvd

I watched this film recently and was totally, totally moved by it! My eye's watered more than once, I can tell you! The chemistry between the two main character's for me was electrifying. The passion they had for one and other was beautiful. This movie had me engrossed from begining to end, and talking about it for weeks. I am very much looking foward to watching it again with a big box of tissues by my side.

Auf jeden Fall einer meiner Lieblingsfilme. Tolle Geschichte, tolle Darsteller. Nur Schade das es ihn nicht in deutscher Fassung gibt, obwohl ich ihn auch schon in deutsch gesehen habe! Aber dieser Film ist es auch wert in englisch zu schauen!

Excellent viewing. Would definitel recommend this film to my family and friends. Not one of Halle Berry's more well known films but definitely very good.
