Close to a true story.
Would not doubt that Mitch Jaynor (the author) was basing this story on his actual experience. He was the best story teller ever. Especially when he MCed for the Dillards.

Wonderfully entertaining and often hilarious book.
I loved this book and I'm not a big reader. Mitch Jayne's paints a wonderful picture in your mind of a young couple and the husband's first job as a one room school teacher in the Ozarks of days long past. It then introduces an almost believable ghost into the story that resides in their rented home. I had trouble putting this book down. This book contains a few things not suitable for younger people but probably ok for high school or older. Loved it.

MY All Time favorite book
Mitch Jayne played the Bass player in the Darlings band on Andy Griffith show, how such a kind and simple man dreamed up this historical book I'll never know, without a doubt the best book Ive read in Years. Hallmark would do very well to make this a Christmas special movie. until they do....may i recommend you buy this book and be ready for a terrific story.

a very good one told by a wonderful story-teller
This is a non-scary ghost story, a very good one told by a wonderful story-teller. Mitch Jayne is better known as the speaking voice and standup bass player of The Dillards bluegrass band. I found it easy to suspend disbelief in the occult as Jayne wrapped the fiddling ghost into a narrative based on his real-life experience as a teacher in a one-room boondocks schoolhouse in the Ozarks. Very enjoyable reading.

Wonderful story, beautifully written
I enjoyed this beautiful story. It is for musicians, historians, teachers, and good-hearted readers. It is well-written, and I recommend it to anyone who loves a good tale.

No Bah Humbug here!
Mitch Jayne wrote with a respect and beauty for language, music and people. While I did not agree with much of his ghostly musings, I did enjoy the rich characters and the flavor of bygone times. It was an interesting idea, and we will get much discussion during book club (this was a book club pick!) I quite enjoyed it!
