Well made and useful sharpener/strop
Worth the investment? Yes! Even though I keep a flat leather strop next to it, I can actually use this sharpener for flat blades, too. But try to sharpen or strop a gouge or carving hook on anything else...this does the job flawlessly. What amazed me was how well made this tool is. It is a nice large size that matches my diamond plates in dimension. If there is one wish I have, it would be for one edge to on opposing sides to have a much tighter radius to accommodate smaller gouges.

Time to sharpen up.
Very handy and well made sharpening and stropping kit. Probably could have made something similar but not of this quality - well worth the price. Had a bit of a challenge fitting the abrasive paper, ended up shearing it apart with the stick. Might have been a bit careless on my part. The stropping compound smells like petroleum but works very well.

Works well, a bit pricey.
I find this easier to hold than a dowel for honing my hooked knives, and it can be more securely clamped to a workbench than a round dowel can be. I don’t use the sandpaper so can’t speak to how well that side works. Price is a bit high, but it’s a specialty item, so a premium price is to be expected.

Good device for maintaining carving tools
This strip is great for maintaining my carving tools. It's helped me through several spoons now and I imagine it will be with me for many more. Great jig from a great company!

great value and works well
I really like this thing and use it frequently. The shape works well with all sorts of carving knives. I think this is also a good value for the money

A few issues but overall OK...
This strop was reasonably priced, but it has a few issues: 1) A unique design, but the strop does NOT work with the "BeaverCraft Wood Carving Hook Knife SK1 for Carving Spoons". The hook on the knife is just to long and curves back way too much (the radius is not too small) to fit on this strop. I ground-down some of the tip (which I was unlikely to use anyway) and made it fit this strop. BTW, the "tutorial" (instructions) that comes with the strop is worthless. It applies more to stropping flat blades, not spoon/hook knives or gouges. 2) The stropping compound is very waxy and gummy. It works OK but is very messy and requires extensive cleaning off the knife when done. Not an easy task with a curved razor blade such as this. I like my other extra-fine green strop medium better. 3) The wooden sandpaper keeper-sticks are very roughly cut (right off the saw blade), and too large to fit the slot on the strop when you try to attach the sandpaper. This was relatively easily remedied by planing-down or sanding the sticks to fit the groove with the sandpaper attached. 4) The knife is what some would call "sharp" out of the box, but, IMO, not sharp enough to put to use in my shop. Overall, you can make it work with the "BeaverCraft Wood Carving Hook Knife SK1", but not without modifications.

Exactly the right tool to sharpen hook knives.
I was so pleased with this product, it made sharpening the hook knives I have a breeze. Really easy instructions sent to my in box in video form. I was able to get all 3 of my hook knives razor sharp with little to no effort. This is a fantastic item and a must for owners of Beaver Craft hook knives. Again I have several items from Beaver Craft and I am happy with them all. The price point is way lower than some but the quality is very high. Really happy with my purchase!
