Genuine GE Part
I tried this item from another manufacturer which did not install as well as this part. The texture on the foam insulation made it easy to push through the hole in the refrigerator wall. The other part from a none GE supplier was not as easy.

Fixed the Problem - See 8/31/15 edit for new information
Received this item from seller (Pandora) several days earlier than expected. It is a genuine GE part. Installation was very easy, although no instructions came with the part (I had found videos online before ordering, so not a problem). The part removed had a styrofoam piece on the top of the assembly that needs to be carefully removed and transferred to the new part (an insulation function, I suppose). The entire process took no more than 30 minutes, and the water flows to the dispenser once again.EDIT 8/31/15 - I ordered this item a second time because it failed again in only 3 years. Although GE says this part number was replaced by WR17X2086, this seller says " WR17X11618 SAME AS WR17X20860 MANUFACTURE CHANGE PART NUMBER." I have a contact at GE who sent me WR17X2086 at no charge, so I cancelled my order with this seller. WR17X2086 is physically different. The mounting face (the area where the top of the filter makes contact when screwed in) has 6 raised ribs, where the old part number is smooth. You may also know that the original MWF filter has been modified as well. I found the new filter to be incompatible with the old filter assembly head (screws in, but no water flows). The new filter and the new head assembly, WR17X2086, work better together than the older parts ever did. So, the purpose of this post is to tell you that the seller is perhaps misinformed about the two part numbers being the same. They are not. You want the WR17X2086 head with the new filter.

After using a bad generic filter in my fridge
After using a bad generic filter in my fridge, The plunger on the check valve within the filter housing broke. This Assembly fixed the problem without any issue. Very easy to install. 2 screws inside the fridge, and 2 on the back. Loosen 2 compression fittings and the old one is out. New one is reverse operation. To check if a faulty filter housing is your problem, Unhook the supply connection coming from your cold water supply, Unhook the compression fitting from the water supply valve at the bottom of the fridge. It is the only easily accessible fitting behind the cardboard cover. Connect your supply line directly to the connection on the water supply valve. You may need to make a double ended compression jumper line, Turn on water supply from the house and check to see if you have water. This bypasses the filter housing. If still do not have water then you have another issue.

Was a perfect fit
Very easy to install and fit perfectly. Our GE Profile Refrigerator is over 15 years old. When changing the water filter we had to turn off the water supply because the pressure relief value on the filter assembly was corroded with calcium buildup and no longer worked. With the new filter assembly it works like a charm. The only problem area was reinstalling the two screws inside the refrigerator on top of the unit. It is a very tight fit, no room for your fingers to hold the screws. When I tried using a magnetic head screw driver that problem was solved.

It works!
I can't speak for longevity, but this fixed the problem with my water line making a horrible noise and slow water through the door. It was easy to install as well. I gave it 4 starts instead of 5 only because it didn't come with the styrofoam that was on the top of the old one I guess either to insulate from temperature and or sound. My old styrofoam was intact though so I just used the old one, it removed easily from the old unit and I installed on the new one.

This part was exactly what I needed to repair my refrigerator.
This part work perfectly, however one of the feed tubes were not long enough too route to where they needed to go. I was able to make an extension from the old part and it worked to restore the indoor water feature.

Fit it for cheap!
Save your time and money. Get a rubber garden hose washer. Lay it on top of the filter so the washer and filter holes line up. Tighten (twist hard) the filter in place. 25 cent washer and 30 seconds to install. GE design of this valve sucks, but this is a cheap workaround.

Replacement part for 2007 PFSS6PKWASS
I recently became fed up with the slowness of my water dispenser on my 2007 PFSS6PKWASS. I noticed that the replacement part for my model was $165. I was _not_ going to pay that kind of money for a similar part that sells for $35.I purchased this part and replaced the old part in about 15 minutes. The only issue was that the water line to the refrigerator was about 2-3 inches shorter than required. I went to the closest big box store, found extra water line, and bought it. It was around $10. This fit perfectly and brought the total to $45.The water comes out fast and we love it. 5/5
