great backpack
This is a great backup there is lots of room for stuff, i think i fit a laptop, two notebooks, and some small things like folders and paper, it was heavy but it didn't rip.My back gets kinda warm wearing this backup.I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a laptop backpack, its even cheaper now then when i got it.Update: 12/6/10After having the "Matrix Backpack - Black" for 2 years, i must say it is still holding up.I don't use the backpack everyday, i use it about 3 times a week for my college classes. I only occasionally use the laptop part. I haven't noticed any rips or tears, and all the zippers are still intact. The back back can still hold quite a bit of weight, the most weight iv'e had in it was 2 ~3lb books, and a netbook ~5-8lbs, plus other random stuff; TI graphing calculator, paper, and folders...The price has gone up quite a bit since i bought the backpack two years ago, i paid around thirty five $ including shipping (amazon didn't have it at the time), now the cheapest is fifty six including shipping...I'd recommend this backpack even at the higher price, I have had a lot of backpacks that don't hold up (zippers break, rips/tears at the seam, not enough room...), I got it for a steal two years ago, and right now it seems like a decent price for a decent backpackUpdate 10-10-15I still have and use this backpack at least one a week. I love this thing! Now instead of carrying books and school work I carry work items. This bag has been through a lot, normally I pack it full of network tools, laptop and binder. I probably have about at least 10 or 15 pounds in it. The straps are showing a bit of fray but nothing too bad.Update 08/2017I use this backpack daily. I keep it in my car overnight and take it in work with me. I'll occasionally bring it inside when i'm at home if i need something from it. I still love this backpack, by far the best backpack i have ever purchased.I'm disappointed that it is no longer for sale but I'll be looking for another Targus when mine does (if it) fails.

Not worth 60 bucks
Good things about this backpack:1. Plenty of pockets.2. laptop protection is excellent as far as any drops or pressure. There are problems, though...3. not awkward, standard feeling backpack.Cons:1. Not at all waterproof. I can't emphasize this enough, it doesn't keep water out at all.2. Many of the pockets are weirdly sized, shaped and useless.3. Main pocket has a strange cheap inner flap and I can't figure out the purpose of it.This backpack is worth 30 or 40 dollars maybe.

Well-made pack with many handy compartments
Just received my third one of these. I use mine daily and often stuff it very full, and they last about 2 years before they start to look a bit ragged. This model has changed a bit since the last one I bought, although not so drastically as some reviews charge. The waist belt that was on the packs I bought in 2008 and 2010 is now gone. I never used it, and it sometimes got in my way, so this is not a bad thing from my perspective. The only other change that I can find is that the small clip-on phone pouch, which is still shown in the photos and touted in the description, is no longer included. I kept my old one, but it is slightly less convenient, as the snap that formerly secured it at the bottom to the strap so that it didn't flop about on is also gone. Contrary to one review, the two side pockets are still there. This is still my favorite backpack of several that I've owned. I appreciate the many small pockets, and the dividers in the two main compartments. It also is nicely padded in back which gives good laptop protection. The flap in the front with elastic lacing is very handy for storing small items that I don't want to put in the main compartment, such as a collapsible umbrella, although the elastic lacing is the first thing that wears out. I was thinking about replacing the lacing on my old things, but decided that the pack, while still functional, was starting to look worn overall, so I bought a new one.I'll note that the plastic zippers, which have been the weak point of some backpacks I've owned, are very high quality, and I've had no problems with them failing. The last pack did develop a tear at the bottom of the partition that divided the bottom of the frontmost big pocket from the smaller one in front of it. This may be my fault due to sometimes overstuffing the pack, and it didn't really impair use. I can't detect any changes in the quality the materials of the new one compared to the last two I've owned.

5 classes, Health Sciences Major, Always Uses Laptop, Lab work.... Perfect bag.
I know someone who has had this same bag for YEARS... throughout master's school and he uses it for work to take his laptop in EVERY DAY. He's traveled around the world with it and it has seen a lot! It still holds up! We recently used it when we went to a them park for a few days to carry our "survival" stuff in. It was great even though we got rained on every day that we were there. The bag is good. Lots of compartments. I am sad though, the laptop compartment is hard for this new book bag model. The one my friend has for the laptop compartment is "cushy" and just perfect. I don't know why Targus felt they needed to change that feature, but I am not fond of the new one! Everything else seems to be the same. Hopefully it will hold up just like my friend's bag even though his bag is years older. I got this for my 5 class course load and I am a Health Sciences major, so the lab necessities needed to fit in this bag, too. It's a down grade in size from the "BUG OUT GEAR" bag I have, but I needed a lighter backpack that was laptop friendly. My books are already heavy, so I didn't need the book bag alone to be heavy without books in it. (The Bug Out Gear bag is heavy without anything in it!)This bag has organized compartments so you don't have to search far for your pens or anything. The room in this thing is crazy good! The handle is another reason I purchased it. I didn't need it killing my hands when I picked it up by the handle.
