Painless, easy and convenient
I had been using the older Accu-chek compact plus, but recently replaced it with this revised version. So far no regrets - it's the same terrific meter I've grown accustomed to, just in some new packaging.Among the many features I like:- Painless lancet...notably better than most of the competitors thanks to the thinner lancets and the teflon coating- Highly accurate...agrees exactly with my doctor's unit and with the lab- Convenient and easy to use, one piece design- Large, legible display- Drum design holds supplies for 17 tests so there's less to carry around or fumble with- Good memory functions built-in- Long battery life...my last one was three years old and I never once needed to replace the batteries with daily testingSomething not mentioned on the Amazon product description is the wonderful interface to the Accu-chek software package called SmartPix, which you can order from the manufacturer. This software talks to the meter using an IR (infrared) signal like your TV remote control, and it lets you create all sorts of useful data on your PC. The product generates all sorts of charts and graphs, which you can share with your doctor to give him a much more detailed view of how you've been doing. I'm a big believer in data collection on the PC, and I routinely monitor blood pressure, exercise (via my pedometer) and blood sugar levels this way.About the only complaint I have is that the supplies for this meter are somewhat hard to find locally, and when I can find them, they tend to be 2-3 times as expensive. I just order through Amazon way in advance and that seems to work for me. I also liked the older style case better, but luckily the meter fits in my old case.Recommended.

Bus ride.
Looking for a accurate and convenient testing kit, I selected this one because of the way the lancer is attached, and the reviews of Accu Chek's accuracy. Also I liked the larger readout display. Indoors the display are very easy to see. My previous meter has the LCD readout on a smaller window that make me work to see the numbers. The lancing device is easy to use and is a little less painful than my previous lancing device. However, once I have a bead of blood, this meter is really clumsily designed, making it awkward to place the test strip to the blood. The front end of the meter is big and round, like a city bus. This is a bit of a design issue with how far the testing strip automatically slides out when you are ready to test. This big bus like front end can obscure the testing strip if you are not holding it just right. Might help if the strip were slightly longer? Also, this unit requires more blood than my previous unit. So, I have to squeeze more out every time I test. I've had to lance twice quite a few times to draw more blood. The meter is pretty large, like the size of a bar of Irish spring soap. So, carrying the meter around means you need a big pocket. Be wary though, you could easily set the meter off to feed a test strip while in your pocket. Had this happen twice so far.I paid $4.99 for this meter so I'm not hurting over not liking it as much as i had hoped. I'm waiting for a really accurate and easy to use meter that works with my iMac until I switch. The current iPhone meter out there has too many reviews about poor accuracy to give it a try. Accuracy is far more important that bells and whistles.

works very well
I was recently diagnoses as pre-diabetic and I was instantly motivated to reverse it with changes to my diet and lifestyle. I purchased the Accu-Chek Compact Plus Meter Kit to keep an eye on my glucose levels. It comes with a black fabric pouch that keeps everything together and in one place and features a zippered compartment for lancets. This device is easy to use and nearly pain free. It features an adjustable cap over the lancet that enables you to chose the depth that is the least painful for you. It loads the test strip and ejects it when you turn off the device. The lancing device is removable, just slides on and off. I use mine while it's still attached to the meter. It's easy to read and it gives you a reading in seconds. I have been able to find replacement lancets and pre-loaded test strip drum at my local pharmacy and here at Amazon. I'm very happy with it.

Great for testing cats
I bought this meter to test my cat's blood sugar, who is a diabetic. I wanted something I could do one-handed, so I could use the other to pet and soothe my cat (and, in general, to avoid fumbling with things). I like that this is SUPER easy to use, and that the strips are loaded in the barrel without me needing to screw around with them. The clear lancet for non-finger testing is really nice for testing on the outer corners of the ear on my cat. And the results are within 15 points of my vet's tests. My complaints are twofold - first, that this kit does NOT come with any test drum, which another reviewer mentioned. The contents of the box are:- Testing lancet pen (attached, but also comes off for testing)- Meter itself- 20 white lancets- Batteries (installed)- Mail-in rebate for full price of meter (yay!)Second, it's annoying that the test drums (Accu-chek Compact 102 Drums Test are kind of expensive. However, it's totally worth it to not have to fumble with tiny strips, and to have them advance automatically every time you need to test. In fact, you never, ever have to touch the strips, since they slide right out with another touch of the button, and can go right into the trash. In all, this is a nice meter, and works great for feline blood sugar testing. And if the mail-in rebate card is in there, the thing is free anyway!
