Excellent desktop PC
I've had this a few weeks and so far it's an excellent desktop. It booted up in 40sec's first time and so far is much faster loading web pages and downloading via either wifi or cable than my laptop and older desktop. It is also very quiet, the fan is almost inaudible, the HD is also very quiet. I added a solid state boot up drive-lots of open space to do so and at least 3 addl open power and sata connectors available for further upgrades. Came with one 4gb and one 2gb memory filling 2 of the 4 available memory slots. That seems just dumb-why not 4&4 and give better performance for a minor addl cost? This is a full sized case- but also the nicest gateway we've owned yet- it has a very sleek design with the gateway logo rear illuminated as well as hidden lighting around the front of the case. It even has a space to hide usb cables on top. I am very happy with the performance, just wished they would include the software discs for what it's preloaded with- nada, not even a manual- it's all on line. I almost bought the cheaper deals for the HP computers- but when you see the poor performance of their amd processors, they were not a good deal.

Excellent Gateway DX4860-UR14P Computer
We have a 8 year old Gateway now (GT5012) and it is still working but I needed to up grade to a faster computer for others to use. When I bought this DX4860-UR14P about five weeks ago it was a very good price and what you were getting at that price (Just under $470). Like others have said this computer connected to our Comcast internet service provider on it's own. I would say that once I looked at the simple quick start instructions I was connected to the internet in less than 30 minutes after following computers first start up instructions. Some have complain about there being no manual or recovery discs. This is the norm now when one gets a new computer. Going to companies website one can down load and print manual or print out user guide from computer Documentation Page. As for there being no recovery discs this can be done by the new owner. Does not take a whole lot of time to do a manual print out or burn a few disc for this machine. This is all done now as a way to save the company money as well for you. As for those that say there is to much software that comes with this machine that one does not need, I have seen a whole lot worst. Very easy to just get rid of the software you do not want. I do agree it can be annoying when you buy a new computer but this is the norm and will continue like it or not. I do not use this most of the time but the rest do since I must use a iMac for doing work for my job.

Awesome Computer!
This computer is a awesome! It's quiet and FAST! I bought it at the end of Nov. 2012 and so far no complaints. As a woman, I thought I would have all kinds of trouble setting it up, but Gateway is very helpful with answering your questions. One review that I read said his was not an i5, well I'm not sure what he bought, but it states very clearly on the box and in the computer properties that its an i5. It's wonderful. I sincerely hope it continues to run as nicely as it does now.Word of caution: Double check your monitor connection, because my monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 932BW) needed another cable, in order to connect to the computer. Make sure you have a HDMI cable or adapter for your monitor. There is no DVI connection on the computer. But this cable I was able to get from Amazon: HDMI to DVI Adapter Cable.

Loved It! PCU and Motherboard dead 1 year, 1 week after purchase. DO NOT BUY THIS COMPUTER!
I got this computer to replace my other work computer that I made the huge mistake of installing Windows 8 on. This is a nice, smooth-running fast machine for what I do. I frequently have 4-9 tabs open on my browser, several Word documents, several Excel documents and Microsoft Outlook open and it handles everything with ease. I did upgrade my memory to 8gb like others mentioned. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase.****UPDATE AS OF 12-02-2013****Yesterday, while attempting to power on this computer it failed to do so. No power was getting to it from a reliable plug. Took it to my computer guy. Said the motherboard has crashed. I purchased this product 1 year, 1 week, and 1 day ago from today for $500 on special. Amazon will do nothing for me in regards to a replacement, etc. I have heard Gateway will not do anything either but will try.DO NOT PURCHASE THIS COMPUTER, if you can even find it.

I've been pretty satisfied with it for the most part
I ordered this in December 2012 because I could no longer find Windows 7 computers anywhere in stores, and I didn't want to use Windows 8. I've been pretty satisfied with it for the most part. It's had some issues with programs hanging, but that may have more to do with software than hardware. I love the terabyte of storage. Two years later and I'm not even close to halfway full, and I take a *lot* of photos (and have all my old photos from the last decade on here). I get a lot of usage out of this computer; it's on 24/7, and in use a good chunk of that. One notable glitch was that when I moved, I could no longer connect to a wireless router. I tried everything I could think of, and I ended up buying a little USB network adapter.

Excellent desktop computer
I used this Gateway to replace an older Dell that I use as my work computer. I updated the OS on it to Windows 8. It works great. I love the fast boot up, quick response, crisp screen, and convenience of the USB and SD ports at the front top corner of the box. I also love the light up case! The only thing that I don't like is the feedback I get when using a headset for online chat. It works perfect when someone else is talking, but when I talk I hear my voice loudly in the headphones! This is very disturbing. I have not figured out if it's the Gateway hardware or Windows 8 setting issue (I did not have this problem using the same headset with the Dell running Windows Vista). This is the only reason I am giving it 4 instead of 5 stars.

I Love it!!
This is the awesome as were the other one's I have owned. I bought my 1st Gateway pc when I was in my 20's. This is my 4th and I am over 50 yrs. The thing I love the most is it's completely silent. The only way you know its on is the light is blinking..
