Not even close to a good product, but good service to make it right.
UPDATE: So, the company got back to me and after seeing pics of what my unit looked like, they apologized and quickly shipped a replacement which is still standing. So, not so great on the first try, but they were very easy to work with to find a solution.ORIGINAL REVIEW: First, I had to use a rubber mallet to knock the end caps back on the main post just to assemble it. As it arrived, the base was at a 15 degree angle to the post, making it lean precipitously. Then this morning, after barely having it a week, it keeled over with the cat on it! It turns out it is just stapled together with no glue, nails or screws. How can a company bollock up something with no moving parts this badly?! I built better stuff than this when I was six years old.

Cats and humans love it!!
Love, love, love!! I needed a new and bigger scratcher for my young adults, my two foster failures Annie (lynx point) and Owen from Desert Paws Rescue and the remaining fosters in my house. I wanted this style but not the huge price tag from the pet store nor the bland tan or brown colors. So got on Amazon to begin searching. I was so excited to come across this scratcher for the very two things that were important to me: price and style. It was the large tower appropriate for adult cats and loved that it was black! So far its been very sturdy and haven't had any problems with it. The cats absolutely love it! Their favorite thing to do is perch on the top which there's a nice platform for them to do! Thank you so much for this great design and great price for someone who volunteers for a non profit cat rescue!!

Came apart in hours
It comes in two pieces: the base and the post. The post is attached to the base with a bolt. This is fine. On the other hand, the base of the post attached to the main post by thin metal staples. These staples pulled out in minutes and the post was on the floor. I grabbed some wood screws and re-attached the post to the post base and it's nice and sturdy. It was easier to do that rather than return it.The toy attached to the top is now shredded and the stuffing is scattered about the house. If those issues didn't exist it would be 5 stars.

Not designed by Cat Owners-Hold on to Shipping Box
This cat scratcher is visually appealing with dark colors. It was easy to assemble but it was a tell-tale sign that my cat would be pulling this apart from the base. Assembly is easy, just a bolt to screw in at the bottom with the included Allen key. The designers of this product led me to think that they are not cat owners. After 2 months my Russian Blue cat ripped the scratcher pole from the base with the bolt still attached. The problem is that the scratcher pole is attached to the top of the base with a frame that in turn is not connected to the base. The included assembly bolt only holds the scratcher pole in place but does not secure it to the base from the top. I could have returned it easily with Amazon’s amazing return policy but I was able to fix it by securing the scratcher pole & frame plate to the top of the base and now it is as it should have been designed. It’s stable now with my modifications. If you don’t have the patience, tools, or aptitude to modify then you are better off just returning it. With this in mind you might want to keep the shipping box. Cats can generate a lot of force when they are scratching and this product may not be suitable for them, and may even cause the injury to their paws and claws. I am keeping it because I fixed the problem but will never buy another one from this manufacturer again.

Our favorite scratching post by far!
I sought out the tallest scratching post I could find, because my cat Schrodinger likes to stretch upward when he scratches. This post saved my couch sides and padded bed frame from kitty damage, and he loves it. It's also very sturdy, and I like that it's not just brown sisal rope- it doesn't look horrible in my bedroom. The little stuffed dangling toy lasted all of 30 seconds, but that's because Schrodinger has a thing for chewing through elastic cord...he still likes playing with the dangler, it just gets batted around the house instead.Edit:Two months in and my 5 stars remain. I actually came here to see if the company makes a larger cat tower, because this looks so much better aesthetically than tan & brown sisal and carpet that literally every other cat tower (at least the ones under $500) is made from. Schrodi follows me into the room and goes right for a big stretch & scratch, usually climbing his way up to perch on it for a bit. He also still enjoys batting around the little rectangular toy that he chewed off immediately. Hell, I'd add another start if I could.

Some Extra Assembly Required
Got this scratching post to replace an older one that had been ripped to shreds by my cats. When I opened it and initially assembled it I noticed that it was leaning in an odd way. Upon closer inspection, the bottom cap of the post that connects with the base had come apart from the post itself. It looks like braids were used to connect the cap and post. Unfortunately putting them back together with force isn't exactly an option. Thankfully I had some screws, a pilot bit, and a drill. The cap appears to be made out of some very hard MDF board so a pilot bit to make a hole is a necessity. Other than that, no complaints.Pros: affordable, cats will most likely use it, good sizeCons: initial durability/construction is questionable and you will either have to return/exchange it or put some of your tools to use.

The vertical part detached from the base right away
I bought two of these as replacements for two other square-style scratching posts. The post is a smaller dimension than the others I had.Assembly is easy - one bolt through the bottom platform into the standing post.**One of the assemblies fell apart within a day. Long wire staples had pulled out from the bottom of the post. I couldn't figure how to put it together. See the picture above.CHANGING REVIEW TO ONE STAR**Update: Within hours of writing the first part of this review, I found that the second scratcher post had detached and was on the floor. The sharp wires are sticking up from the base that detached - with the bolt still in place. Can't recommend this brand.
