My Review and Summary (Paperback)
Engineering Vibration (4th Edition) provides a comprehensive coverage of the theory and practice of the classical dynamics topic of vibration analysis. The book is organized as follows: The first few chapters develop the topic of single degree of freedom vibration in terms first of free response, then response to harmonic excitation, followed by general forced response. Subsequent chapters introduce multiple degree of freedom and distributed parameter systems. In addition to examples drawn from engineering problems, additional chapters are dedicated to design for vibration suppression, testing and experimental modal analysis and the finite element method. The level of depth and rigor make for an ideal textbook for upper divison or graduate level engineering. This is also supported by copious problem sets accompanying each chapter and thoroughly worked examples. Also, it makes an ideal reference for practicing engineers or for licensing exam preparation. A final salient feature is the inclusion of a computerized toolbox of programs to supplement and demonstrate the use of the concepts developed within the book. Since the toolbox is developed in Matlab and Python and is compatible with the Open Source GNU Octave and Jupyter, the toolbox programs are able to put to use with minimal additional training beyond typical competency with these simulation environments. Finally, although not reviewed, an Instructor’s Solution Manual for Engineering Vibrations, 4th Edition is available. It would be advisable for refence use to obtain this resource to assist with working through the numerous problem sets.

So glad I bought books this semseter
This has really helped me. I am able to read ahead before class so I could ask questions since I can't learn from a lecture I paid for. Probably the only reason I am able to still learn something this semester. Easy to read, easy to follow. This is a great text book, very well written.

good book but has a fair amount of typos
Inman's book (4th Ed) presents the topics in a cogent manner. The use of software like Matlab, Mathcad, and Mathematica in the book is very good. The examples in the book are also very good. The only drawback to the book is the presence of a fair amount of typos. In a 4th edition one would have thought this would be under better control from a quality perspective. The book would have gotten 5 stars if this was not an issue.

Obviously NOT new!
Not only did the book arrive late, but it is blatantly obvious that it isn’t new. It has pages glued together at the seam, bend marks at the spine, an aftermarket sticker on the front covering the corner, it is greasy, has scratches all over it, and random tape on it to cover information. It’s like someone grabbed this from their basement, dragged it across the floor, slapped some stickers and tape on it, and sent it to me while calling it “new”. Quality is terrible. I’m just hoping it will be work for my class. If not I’m sending it back immediately. I do NOT recommend getting this product.

Just like the hard-bound copy!
Identical to the full version at a fraction of the cost. I highly recommend buying this international version of Daniel J. Inman's Engineering Vibration over the full priced, hard bound book; however, make sure you don't purchase the S.I. unit version on accident as the chapter question are different. A few of my friends did so and had to send them back and reorder. If you found this review helpful please hit the button below,Thank-you!
