Ancient Ink: The Archaeology of Tattooing

Great content. Poor formatting.I heard good things about "Ancient Ink" and was excited to finally get my hands on a copy. I decided against the hardcover copy and bought the kindle version instead to make it easier for doing research.Unfortunately, when I started reading I noticed that the right third of the page was cut off.Thinking it might be user error I checked my settings, which were fine. I re-downloaded the book, nothing. I then went to the kindle forum to see if there was a solution I was missing. The single staff response to a similar question was unhelpful.After much searching, I found a way to contact kindle support, to get the problem fixed...Maybe. It's been 3 days and I haven't gotten a response. The formatting error continues on every page making the book unreadable.For anyone interested in buying this book DO NOT get the kindle version. Purchase the hardcopy.

To be blunt, if you want a picture book, buy a magazine. If you want to see lots of tattoos, go to a tattoo shop or the strand in Venice CA. Ancient Ink has some detailed photos and illustrations, however it is essentially an excellent text with supporting reference photos. Ancient Ink is incredibly detailed, highly informative, and gives a fascinating global view of ancient tattooing and what archaeological evidence has been discovered on the subject. The author does an excellent job of laying out the foundations, and then taking readers through a global tour of the archeology of tattooing. I would recommend it to anyone that has interests in tattooing and wants to know more about our collective understanding, origins and cultures where tattooing existed. It is a fascinating subject. Ancient Ink is a great read, is very interesting and educational.

This is a Text book, I was looking for something else.

Very dissapointed, poorly printed, distasteful designs, this is a complete waste of money and a terrible display of "tribal art" if you would even call it that.

This is a collection of academic papers, so it does not have a 'coherent narrative'. The three papers i've read so far have been readable for a non-academic. (I'm a non-academic). The volume has been well edited and I have yet to notice any typos or errors.The book is beautiful, with nice thick pages, so my highlighter doesn't bleed through. there is a selection of plates with color images in the middle of the volume. Many of the articles have black and white illustrations. I'm very happy with my purchase.
