M-G 8637-2 Head/Cylinder Gasket for Ingersoll Rand SS5 Replaces 54571617/54429600

On time , had great fit ,worked well. Very satisfied.

It fits perfectly. It looks like it's a CNC paper gasket. All the edges were very fuzzy but the fuzz came off easily.This is the second time my SS5 blew a gasket. I replaced it the first time with OEM. I am hoping an aftermarket will last as long or longer. To hedge my odds I also sprayed it with copper spray. Let's hope for the best . I'll follow up if/when it blows again.

These gaskets broke after only 18 days. The original OEM gaskets were made from Hochdruck graphite, but these are not. They look like regular automotive gaskets which just don't have the same high temperature tolerance.

These gaskets worked just fine on my ingersol rand SS5 compressor. I did have to remove some material around the bolt holes for the reed valve bolts, as they were not deep enough, throwing the other holes off by an eighth of an inch. I used a wood carving hand gouge (U-shaped) over a block of wood to make a clean cut adjustment for proper fitment. My compressor fill time from 0 to 135 PSI went from 8 min to 3 min just by replacing the old head gasket that was blown between the cylinders. I would buy these again if needed.

Want to ruin your compressor? This is a great start. These 'gaskets' are cut from some crumbly material that is disintegrating as you touch it. These will leave crumbs and garbage inside your cylinders and threaten the longevity of your compressor. Guess I should never have considered anything but IR. Keep away!

use compressor daily. head gasket blows consistantly after one year. it is cheap to replace but annoying. to be honet have not checked the head for warpage
