Great Microphone for gaming and general use
After nearly 3 weeks of researching in forums and a few youtube videos, I ended buying this microphone for my headphones. I am an avid gamer and decided to make my own gaming headphones because sound quality is very important to me. After testing the Zalman mic 1 and the microphone on my old astro a40 tr's, the sound the modmic produces on the receiving end is incredible. When compared to the Zalman Mic 1, the modmic produces a smooth sound for those listening and with its mic cover, which essentially is a pop filter, there is less punchiness with the sounds. Overall it just has a nice warm sound without the echo chamber sound I got with the Zalman mic 1.The mod mic comes with all the accessories you need to mount it to a nice pair of headphones. 2 magnetic base clasps with adhesives on the back to attach to any headphone you may have. I currently own the Audio Technica's ATH AD700x and the outside of the cans are mesh. The adhesive on the base clasp had no issues sticking to that surface. I actually had to reposition the clasp and was able to use the same adhesive backing to reattach it to my headphones. The microphone snaps on securely and feels sturdy. It also comes with some cable clips for wire management. I will say if you are a stickler for wire management, you may want to look at the mod mic 5.0. It actually comes with a mesh cable covers to hide how the wires look vs the 4.0 where it clearly shows (refer to photos). The noise cancelling was a big factor since my keyboard is relatively loud. I felt the zalman mic 1 was a little too sensitive for my taste and would pick up the keyboard clicks. The modmic does a great job at mitigating background noise. The boom mic itself has a flexible yet sturdy tube which makes for easy adjustment of the mic itself. The one major drawback for this microphone is compatibility. When I plugged this into my pc the sound came out very low and would cut in and out. My understanding is the modmic may have some challenges with onboard audio for some motherboards. In order to get the most out of the mic, it needs to draw a little bit of power that some onboard sound cards cannot provide. I believe it needs about 5v of phantom power. What phantom power means, I am not sure but what I do know is you will likely need a usb audio adapter in order to get the mic to work well. Luckily usb adapters are not terribly expensive. I bought mine at frys for $6 and my mic worked perfect afterwards. If you are planning on buying this mic I would strongly recommend buying a usb audio adapter with microphone inputs unless your sound card can power the modmic.Last thing I promise. The microphone itself is a little short, so you may want to test positioning to see if your headphones can support where you want the base clasps to be. That way you are not sticking it on and peeling it off constantly like some people I know (me).Overall it is a great microphone for the price. There are plenty of other options for much less but as far as quality is concerned you cannot beat this set for the price. I have been using this for about 4 days and have had no issues with it.What I liked:Build Quality is on par for the price you paySound qualityAccessoriesEase of useNoise cancelingunidirectionalMute ButtonMagnetic base claspsCable lengthWhat I did not like:Lack of wire managementLack of swivel like feature to move the microphone away from the mouth when not in use. (Luckily the clasps are magnetic, so a quick pull and adjustment of the microphone does not require much effort)Overall it is a great microphone for the price. There are plenty of other options for much less but as far as quality is concerned you cannot beat this set for the price.

This mic is pretty cool. I've used a similar product from Zalman ...
The media could not be loaded. This mic is pretty cool. I've used a similar product from Zalman in the past and didn't like it at all - but I actually quite appreciate the Antlion ModMic.--DISCLAIMER: As with most of my reviews - this was a review for my YouTube channel, and I was sent the product for free via my PR contact at Antlion. No one is paying for this review, seeing it before it goes live, nor having any sort of input on what I say in my review.---****Good Stuff:Mic is adjustable to move out of your face when not in use - or detachable - and can be positioned perfectly for voice calling. The adhesive mounts are high-quality and do not come loose. The magnet is strong and holds the mic in place, no matter how much you move. The mic is small and does not weigh a ton.The mute switch is fantastic!Carrying case is pretty cool. The audio quality is actually pretty good! I was quite impressed. It's clear and quite "boomy". Some might not like that, but it helps make sure you can be heard overtop game volume. It's less boomy if you move it further from your mouth and talk louder. The cable clips are handy as well.Sounds WAY better than any gaming headset mic I've used, with much better background noise rejection than webcam mics.---****Bad Stuff:It's still a second cable running along your headphone cable, which can add to mess, frustration, tangling, etc. It's harder to mount on more high-end headphones with weird shapes, but works fine on normal-shaped headphones. It's expensive (as is any good audio solution. I'd rather someone use this mounted appropriately than something like a Blue Snowball!)Moving around a lot while talking causes the mic to bounce a little, which affects the audio quality. The auto gain control on the mic prevents it from being a nuisance in a listener's ear, but can effect voice quality. The tighter your headphones on your head, the worse this gets - as when you talk, your jaw naturally moves, thus moving the ear cup.No indication (that I could find) on the case, mic, user manual, etc. to indicate if you got the unidirectional mic (this one) or the omnidirectional mic. You can check your order receipt, but a minor annoyance.--****Side Note: I also tried out some of the accessories that came with it. The 4-pole to 3-pole splitter works great for X1/PS4 gaming situations, and the USB sound card is perfect if you're like me and have no desire to reach around to an impossible-to-reach back of your desktop PC to plug into your sound card. It also works on Linux! (and Windows 10.)

Works exactly as promised
Having replaced my older Sennheiser HD 570 headphones with a far superior audiophile set, I wanted to re-purpose them for gaming. The ModMic seemed to be the go-to solution. After using the mic for a few days, I'd agree that it really leaves very little to be desired - a near-perfect device. The HD 570 ear cups have a plastic shell that's curved in every direction, so they're a worst case for mounting the ModMic. I actually filed down some of the perforated shell to create a flat spot. The ModMic mounting post went on without any trouble, and seems to be holding strongly.Antlion supplies a 75% alcohol pad to clean the mounting location, but I used some 99% alcohol I keep around for the (very rare) occasions when I need to clean a CPU prior to re-mounting the cooler. Antlion also includes one extra adhesive pad, and an extra base that would allow using the mic with two sets of headphones. Also included is a set of little clips for holding the headphone and mic cords together, reducing the tangle on your desk. The clips are a great solution, though I could have used about twice as many of them. Everything is packed in an elegant zippered hard-shell case - a nice touch. In use, I'm finding voice quality to be excellent. The frequency response on this unidirectional model goes only up to 10KHz, but you'd never know it listening to speech on an Internet chat. The in-line mute switch is a bit tricky to find at first, but works as it should.I have just one minor gripe: the mic boom is flexible and easy to adjust - but it positions the actual mic pointing about 45 degrees upward. Twisting the boom (gently) has not succeeded in convincing it to point the mic horizontally at my mouth. As I said, audio quality is excellent, but it would be nice if the mic was oriented a bit more appropriately. I might also mention that the magnet that holds the boom to the mounting post is probably stronger than it needs to be. You're never going to accidentally knock the mic off its mount, but flipping it up when not in use puts a bit more stress on the glue joint than is really necessary. If I do happen to snag the mic, I'd rather the magnet let go, than the glue.Overall, I'm very happy with the ModMic, and I'd definitely recommend this product to anyone with a similar need to add voice input to a set of headphones. Well worth the expense.

Perfect to convert your headphones to headset.
These are perfect for your high end headphones to be converted to headset.Pros:1. Comes with two two extra adhesive tips so if you lose adhesion on your existing tip you still have two spare. I used two of my adhesive tips for my Sennheiser HD 598 and my Audio Technica ATH M50x.2. Sound quality is tinny but quite clear for VoIP calls and meetings.3. Comes with it's own carrying case!4. Has an in line mute switch. Perfect for quickly muting while on a conference call.5. Noise cancelling works decently well. The other side never complained that I was in a noisy environment.Cons:1. Wire is too long. It should have been modular. It's too cumbersome to do proper cable management.2. Doesn't come with a Y splitter for 3.5mm TRRS Jack's which are becoming increasingly common. The headphone mic combo Jack needs a single TRRS jack and this adapter should be provided by antlion. I had to search for it quite a bit. Another problem is that this combo Jack has two standards, one is apple standard and the other is PC and andorid standard. So the y splitter needs to be compatible with laptop or Mac.3. Doesn't work well with mobile phones because there isn't much amplification. The Audio is too weak for mobile devices. This only meant for PC where the sound card has more amplification.4. Make sure you position the mic a little above or below your mouth or you'll get plosive sounds. The included foam shield doesn't stop the plosive sounds.Overall it serves my purpose well enough. I want to be able to join meeting calls in relative comfort but also don't want to carry separate headphones or earphones with mic for listening to music. Perfect for my use case.Would recommend this to people having a similar use case.

Awseome Clear Sound
great sounding mic...works very well and can be attached easily to headphones but be aware that you will have 2x cables running from them and can be a little messy...other than that cannot fault them.
