R1280T

These days its harder to find a set of speakers that are good, for a cheap price. It seemed like all the speakers I was looking for under a hundred, were so cheaply made, that they break within a year as according to reviews. I already have a couple of large speaker systems that slam the bass so hard, that the walls in the house shake, great for watching movies! I just needed a couple of amplified speakers to hook up to my cell phone, to listen to music, while I am sleeping. These speakers are really well made, the 2-way drivers are quality, the wooden paneling is beautiful. The port connections on the back are solid, and the controls on the right speaker are real nice. These speakers actually come with a RCA to 3.5mm adapter for use with small devices, which was really nice of them, and hooking them up was easy as well. One of the reasons why I chose this model, was for its remote control, that way I don't have to get out of bed, in order to turn them up or down. Treble, Bass, and Volume are located on the right speaker, and the remote operates volume up/down and mute function. If your looking for the ultimate in sound quality, these are not it. Even with the treble turned all the way up, there is a clear lack of high frequencies production, as compared to other speakers more expensive then these. Infact, the next model up from Edifier, produce better highs, as heard from audio reviews on Youtube, in comparison to these. However, where the next model up lacks in bass production, this model shines. These speakers have so much bass, that even if you turn the bass down, your still hearing bass. And if you crank the bass all the way up, and crank the volume up, they will amaze you as to what they can do, for only a 4" driver! Since I use them while sleeping, I keep the bass down. But in testing I had the bass cranked up, and they really sound nice for what they are. What really blew me away however, was how good the separation is on these speakers. Most cheap speakers I ever owned lacked in proper separation. When I listen to tracks which are true stereo, the music really sounds amazing, and I still can't believe that these little speakers are capable of producing better separation, then my large 10" driver AAL speakers, or my 5.1 surround sound system. Keep in mind however, always match your speaker size to your room size. The reason these sound amazing for me, is my bedroom is only a 15' by 15' room. If you want speakers to fill a 18' by 25' living room or larger, I would recommend the Edifier S1000DB speakers. These speakers do have removable grills, but because of the strange placement of the drivers, I think the speakers look better with the grills on. I am also noticing a pattern with modern devices using these mini remote controls now that use expensive lithium batteries. I would prefer a standard size remote control that uses AAA batteries instead. I highly recommend these speakers 5 out of 5! UPDATE: December 6th 2018 I wanted to quickly give an update on my speakers, since its been over a year since my review. These speakers are still doing excellently! They have not shown any signs in wear, both cosmetically, and in operation. They still sound great as they did when new, and I have been using them literally every single day since I got them. For the money they are a good buy, I still recommend them. 5 out of 5 stars.

If you're looking for a set of speakers for your computer, this is the set to buy. For $100 you will not find a better performing set of speakers. I was tired of having a 2.1 setup with a boxy subwoofer on the floor, and multiple cables for R/L speaker, connection to the computer, and power. I was using Creative Z623 (discontinued but the current model Z625 can be had at Logitech for $170) which are 200W THX certified speakers. They sounded good, the bass was great. The main issue I had was I wanted to regain floor space. With a midtower desktop case and the subwoofer, I was losing around 4sqft next to my desk. Enter Edifier R1280T (Note I have no need to use these with Bluetooth devices, they will be dedicated to my PC). Easy setup - 1. Speaker wire (included) connects left speaker to the right (which has the amp and controls) 2. RCA to 3.5mm cable (included) connects right speaker to your PC. Note here that the included cable is 6ft, which may or may not be long enough if your PC is on the left of your desk (like mine) and you want to spread out the speakers a bit. I ordered a longer (and better quality) cable on amazon for $10. 3. Plug in power cord from right speaker Almost mandatory adjustments for maximum performance: 1. These speakers have volume control. Windows has volume control. That means there's a bit of trial and error determining how high you want to set the speaker volume vs master volume in Windows. I set Windows volume to 50%, then I set the speaker volume to it's maximum. Then I can use windows to make it even louder, and no it didn't clip the sound or distort. Now a comfortable sound level for me is around 30%. It's freaking loud at 70%. Loud enough that I think I may be annoying my neighbors. However at 2% I can still hear it (albeit faint). So Your mileage may vary, but you can play with these two volume controls to get the sweet spot for how you like to listen with plenty of headroom. 2. EQ - a MUST. Out of the box I have to admit I was a bit disappointed. With the speaker bass/treble knobs set at 0, and windows playing a flat EQ, the speakers were fairly disappointing. Especially considering I was coming from a 2.1 system with a subwoofer that banged. There was just no real low end punch with the Edifiers under this setup. In addition, I initially tested these without doing the volume setup mentioned above and the speakers were fairly low (in terms of Dbs) even at max volume in Windows. I have an MSI motherboard which uses Realtek HD Audio Manager drivers. This is located in Control Panel. When I open this app it lets me change the speaker configuration, default format, as well as "sound effects." By the way, these settings are also found in Windows Sound Control Panel, but I liked the RealTek interface better, plus, there is no way to adjust the EQ manually in Windows' panel. From the Sound Effects I was able to create an EQ that sounded pretty good. Then I used the control knobs on the right speaker to punch up the bass and dial back the treble a little. After making these changes I was totally blown away. What a difference this makes in the performance of the speakers. If you're not getting a great sound from your set, adjust your EQ. I now have a reasonably good replacement to my 2.1 system. Does the bass hit like a sub? no it doesn't. But these are small bookshelf speakers. It sounds great, and gets so loud that I want to immediately turn them down. Coming back to the price for a second, you may find fault in the performance, but compared to what? I challenge you to find any speakers for $100 that can do what these do. Go ahead, I'll wait. Just buy them, you won't regret it. They are still small enough to not take over your desk, but are big enough that you'll actually want to listen to them (unlike smaller "computer speakers").

These speakers are simply incredible for the price, literally if i never would have seen or known about them first after doing research and then did a proper demo of them playing mastertapes, i would think they would cost around 250-275 dollars for how they sound. The tweeter is certainly one of the highlights of these speakers, it appears to be a silk mylar type, for a speaker in this price range it shouldn't be anywhere close to as articulated or detaild as it is, it only uses a single 3.3uf bipolar electrolytic capacitor, i do wish they used a polypropylene capacitor to cross the tweeter over instead as that would be a decent improvement over the cap thats inside, but i understand they have to cut costs somewhere. I'd recommend if you do anything at all to these speakers, changing the 3.3uf cap out in each speaker with a 3.3uf 250v pmpc dayton audio polypropylene capacitor would be a good improvement, for a nice bit extra detail in the highend. When you switch it out make sure to attach the cap to the positive of the tweeter and to the positive amplfier wire going to the tweeter wire. Reguardless, the tweeter was a pleasant suprise indeed. The woofer is also fantastic featuring a decent rubber santoprene surround and finely pressed treated paper cone. The lower end extension is around 55 to 60hz plus or minus 10db, which is what id expect for a design such as this, everything from 55 to 60 and up is beautiful for the most part, the mids are fairly accurate as well, even the upper mids are pleasent. The can be a bit more forward sounding at times, but not over baringly so, i think it's a decent characteristic of the sound if you really wanted to go ham with these speakers, plugging in a mini dsp would make these already great speakers shine even further beyound their price tag they already do. Overall the woofers are great for what they are. The magnets and baskets on both drivers are well made. The amplifier section is a single full range class d unit, i believe it was a texas instrument's ic, one of their newer truepath hd chips, edifier implemented it perfectly in these speakers. Everything is driven by a smps power supply which appears to be good enough. The cabinets are made of excessively dense and thick mdf so there is little to no resonance inside the cabnet, the ports for each speaker are perfectly smooth on the insides and they are also flared to reduce port noise, that was a nice touch. The speakers look nice with the grills, they fit very snugly onto the fronts of the speakers, even they do not feel cheap. THE speakers look great with both the grills on or the grills off. The finish looks pleasing to the eye. The wire that comes with it to attach the other speaker appears to be 20 gauge which is enough for the length it is as well as the power it carries. The only 4 things i could see that would make these speakers better for mabey 5 to 15 bucks more "stuff gets cheaper when you buy parts in bulk" Would be for them to use all nichicon capacitors inside the powersupply and main board instead of the no name Chinese caps that are inside currently and also use a polypropylene 1 to 5% tolerance capacitor for the tweeter, and then also use 18 gauge ofc wire for the speakers internal wiring and also for the external speaker wire and its internal wire instead of that cca 20 gauge wire. The last thing would be to include better rca cables, as they do not fit very tightly around the connectors, if those 4 things would be improved, even if that would mean the speakers would be 10 to 15 bucks more, I'd buy it in 321. These edifier speakers still represent a great value for the cost, they won't get super loud, but they will sound really good, especially if you're using a decent source and not a terrible integrated computer soundcard.or a cheap cd player... these should be hooked up to a steinburg ur 12 daw or a mini dsp at the very least with music being streamed from foobar with the latest plug - ins, if you try to drive these with integrated sound or a phone, tablet, mp3 player playing lossy mp3's...That's exactly the sound you will get from them, you're really limiting what these can do if that's the case. If you use a terrible source with poorly mastered cd's or even a cd player with a terrible design, you won't hear what they can really do, go for a decent dac and lossless audio formats that are correctly mastered, you'll see for yourself. If not, and you think they sound terrible, i guarantee you're doing something wrong.

I got tired of reading endless forums about the "best budget desktop speakers" so I decided to purchase the following and compare them in real life against each other: Neumi BS5P | Micca PB42X | Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX | Edifier R1280T | Bose Companion 2 Series III | Edifier G2000. I am not an audiophile, I am not technical. I have played instruments my whole life and run sound in some amateur settings, so I'm guessing I have a slightly more critical ear than the average listener, but definitely not of those truly dedicated to hi fidelity listening. I don't know proper terms. I took these notes kind of haphazardly, but they are listed in order of best to worst after personal testing. I intend to play games and listen to music with a slight preference towards gaming as I have another speaker system for music that I can use for music. High level takeaway: the true battle is between the Neumi BS5P and the Micca PB42X. Between those 2 speakers, either would be the right choice of all these options depending on your intended use. I ended up choosing the Neumi because I am going to be playing games quite a bit, and they provided much better low end to fill out a lot of the sound effects. If I were choosing a speaker just for music listening, I would have gone with the Miccas as they have superior mid/high/vocal clarity. The Miccas have a good enough sub that I wouldn't be missing the low end on most music, but if I wanted to, I could just add a sub to fill out the lows on the Miccas (for edm type music). _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Neumi BS5P 75-Watt $139.99 - My personal winner Pro: - Sounds full and satisfying right away - Great bass (almost as good as the dedicated sub on the Klipsch, definitely better than all other options without a dedicated sub. I've got adjacent neighbors so I won't ever go sub heavy anyways, so don't need a dedicated sub with the power these pull) - Decently clear mids/highs, though this is less defined than the Miccas. These get better after doing the firmware update, and get it much closer to the Micca's clarity, but still not quite as good - Bluetooth pairing quality stays really high (doesn't make a difference for me) Cons - Mids/highs/vocals still just not as good/clear/crisp as the Micca - Much larger than the other options (might be a pro if you're looking to fill a room with more volume - I'm not looking for that) - Need to update the firmware to get better mids/highs than out of the box (minor inconvenience but might scare some away) Micca PB42X $109.99 Pro: - Really nice, crisp/clean mid/highs (better than everything else) The vocals are bright and shiny, unrivaled by any other of these options - Doesn't seem to add much coloration (but this also leads to it feeling slightly emptier than the 1280T, could be good or bad) - Pretty good bass for what it is (far better than the G2000 and Bose, worse than the others) - It comes with a 2 part dc cable that's longer than others, and a longer mp3 cable than others (doesn't really matter, but it's nice) - Fairly flat (might be a good or bad thing for usage) Con: - Getting really nit picky just to find differences, but the connection cable on the back is a twisty, rather than a poke as the Edifiers have. Twistys just seem less stable/more exposed - Mids/lows start to sound more tinny in comparison to the mids/lows of the neumi, leaving a somewhat less satisfying feeling - Ultimately this feels a bit emptier than others with better subs, but is also definitely crisper/clearer Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX Certified $144.99 Pro: - Great sound out of the box - Great bass (only one with a dedicated sub, so that should be obvious) Con: - Decent mid/highs, but still not as crisp/clear as the Miccas Edifier R1280T $129.32 Pro: - Beautiful aesthetic - Good sound out of the box , there's not the obvious tinny sound of budget speaker - Volume, bass, and treble knobs - I'm satisfied with the sound immediately (I grew less satisfied with the sound the more I A/B compared to the Bose due to the coloration. I then adjusted the tilt of the speakers and it seemed to fix this coloration issue and bring more clarity to the mids/highs) - It's really minor, but the power plug is a plug and not a brick like all the others Con: - No sub out option - Definitely colors the sound to fill in the space more (which could be a pro for some people too). Ends up adding a layer of mud to the overall sound - The mids/highs are really just muddy due to the coloration Bose Companion 2 Series III $149.00 Pro: - The mids/highs are nice and bright and clear - Really compact if you don't have a lot of desk space00 - I'm satisfied with this sound out of the box - Seems not to color the sound (certainly not nearly like the R1280T), feels more accurate - Has an upward tilt so it seems to naturally position for the sweet spot Con: - Only a volume knob so no automatic control over bass/treble (I assume there's eq software that would fix this?) - Bass is a bit lacking (probably would be satisfied with the amount of bass if I weren't comparing against the others) - Something feels emptier about these speakers against the 1280T and Micca Edifier G2000 $109.99 Pro: - Decent bass and presence - The LED light is kind of nice Con: - Stupid startup car sound is absolutely childish and obnoxious - The LED light stays on (I think you can turn it off but who's going to go through the hassle of turning it off and on if you have to hear the stupid car sound at every startup) - Still clearly sounds like a budget speaker with a constant of tin/noise - Bass can wash out pretty easily at medium volumes - It crackles at other certain sounds like my incoming email ping - Not satisfied with this sound out of the box

I had been using a Bose Mini SoundLink as my computer speaker because I was trying to save desk space, but it just wasn’t reliable for meetings. It would randomly disconnect at the worst times, so I finally decided to go back to traditional speakers—and what a difference! I bought these Edifier speakers based on the great reviews, and OMG, they are amazing. The sound is crystal clear, they were incredibly easy to set up, and most importantly, they are reliable. I no longer have to worry about my speakers disconnecting in the middle of a meeting, and the overall sound quality is excellent. The remote control was an added bonus, and I also really appreciated that they included multiple AUX cables. The long speaker cable connecting the two speakers is another nice touch because it gives you plenty of flexibility when setting them up on your desk. If you’ve been on the fence about buying these speakers, I highly recommend them. Great sound, easy setup, thoughtful accessories, and dependable performance. I’m very happy I made the switch!

I originally bought some Alesis M1 speakers because I had a set of their higher end monitors and was very pleased with them. I was looking for nearfield monitors that were less on the thud side and more on the midrange side of town, since I'm using them for production. I wrote a review about the Alesis. Alesis are a great company, but those speakers were absolutely dreadful. I spent $91 on those used. Unlistenable. I was resigned to having to shell out the bigger bucks to get some NS10's.. which of course do the job better than anything, but are hard to listen to for long periods of time. I wanted something that was accurate, small and musical. So I started listening to tests on youtube through my Sony MDRV6 headphones (5hz-35khz!) of every monitor I could find that might fit the bill for what I was looking for. I had not heard of Edifier, but my research started with discovering the 1280db's, which sound great, really. But in another test I listened to 1280db against the 1280T that made me opt instead for the 1280T. The 1280T's were more balanced to my ears. Then I listened to every single other test I could find of the 1280T's against a paragon of great speaker manufacturers., JBL, Genius, Behringer, Alesis, Pioneer.. even a few Bose models, the bookshelf and multimedia speakers specifically (NEVER use Bose for monitoring). I did the test in HD with my eyes closed so that I could truly determine which sounded not just better, but that seemed to offer a response you'd expect from nearfield monitors rather than loudspeakers. I'm not looking for thudders - I'm looking for lots of detail and accuracy in the midrange. The 1280T's kept taking the proverbial cake. They have a very musical characteristic about them without coloration. There is no wonk on these speakers. I think what these guys really got right was the balance. Even against higher Edifier models, this one really was more pleasing to my ears, again looking for detailed midrange response and to be used as near field monitors. They sound way more expensive than they are. (I owned a few $300-$600 monitors including Alesis and JBL). I paid $79. Unreal. I feel like a bandit. The balance as I say is really exquisite. Someone really gave a damn about how these things sound. I was already impressed with the 1280db, but these are more balanced in the 200hz-400hz range. The detail in the midrange is really superb. The bass response, going AB between these, some Rockit 5's, car speakers and a Yamaha stereo system with a sub, is pretty accurate, leaning slightly on over emphasis. So I went back to the speaker, dialed the bass response down 1 click, and voila! Accurate (or as accurate as you could hope for $79) bass response. The treble response is accurate with no compensation required on the speaker. The treble balance is very musical. Well blended. These speakers sing like one unit, not like 2 woofers and 2 tweeters. I also gave the Treble and Bass a good push to 10 and the speakers just got sweeter and beefier. Really pleasant, although I plan to keep the speakers flat. I think the boost and cut is set at 6db each way.. but I'm guessing. Again I have no real need for those but it was nice to hear these things really kick. You can make them thud if you want. 75hz-18khz is where they're rated and more than enough for my purposes. They look nice to me (they don't look cheap anyway.). The construction appears to be quite solid. The grills are straightforward and aesthetically, while not the sexiest looking piece of gear, makes up for it with unassuming awesomeness. My friends had no idea the speakers sound that good from looking at them. They look a bit vintage even. I'm down with that. I've read some negative comments about the dials on the speakers. I didn't mind them at all. The Bass and Treble have a nice click for the 12 o'clock setting so you don't have to eyeball it and the Volume knob is infinite. Doesn't stop rolling in either direction, which is fine. I set it and leave it there. I did give them a good crank (listenably loud) and they handled it no problem. No audible distortion or clipping. For near field monitors, these things have a TON of power. WAAAY louder than I'd ever need them to be. The company rates them at 42W (21 a side). These speakers have no bluetooth connectivity, which I could care less about since I would never use that feature when working on music production. You've got an Aux input and a "PC" input and that's IT. Both are RCA. A USB connection or a SPDF connection might be nice, but if they omitted those to keep the price down while focusing on giving you a great sounding speaker, then I'm all for it because they succeeded in that regard. One of the best purchases I've made this year. Will definitely look Edify up first next time I want to buy some speakers. I hope they maintain their emphasis on simplicity and quality. Unreal value for $79.. AWESOME!!

I'll be honest — I wasn't expecting much. At around $100, I figured I'd be upgrading from garbage laptop speakers to something merely decent. What I got instead was a full-on audio awakening. A full year in, and the Edifier R1280T Powered Bookshelf Speakers remain one of the best purchases I've ever made. From the moment I set them up — which took all of five minutes thanks to the plug-and-play RCA connections — I was hooked. These things pump out 42 watts RMS of total power through a 4-inch woofer and silk dome tweeter setup, and the sound absolutely fills a room in a way that feels almost illegal for the price. The bass is surprisingly deep and punchy, without ever becoming muddy or overwhelming. Highs are crisp and detailed, and the built-in treble and bass knobs on the active speaker let you fine-tune the sound exactly how you like it — something I genuinely use. My music sounds warm and full in a way I never experienced through cheap computer speakers or even some pricier Bluetooth options. What I also love: dual RCA inputs mean I have my PC and another audio source plugged in simultaneously — no constant cable-swapping. The wood-grain enclosure looks genuinely classy on a desk or shelf and minimizes resonance for cleaner sound. The included remote is a small but thoughtful touch that I reach for every single day. After a year of daily use — music, movies, podcasts, late-night gaming sessions — not a single issue. No hiss, no rattle, no drop in quality whatsoever. These speakers punch so far above their weight class that calling them "budget" almost feels like an insult. If you're on the fence, get off it. The Edifier R1280T isn't just the best speakers at this price — they're just great speakers, period. Five stars isn't enough.

These are very attractive looking speakers. I bought them because my wife is hard of hearing and she has trouble when listening to some TVs. After her complaints, and a bit of research, I choose these to connect to my wife's 40" TV at her elderly mom's house, where a small unintrusive foot print was demanded. I knew that there were RCA jacks on the TV, but they turn out to be gaming console in-puts (not the outputs that I needed). So it was nice that a headphone connection also came included. Be aware, the included cables are the typical "minimalistic but useable". The speaker cable is 8 feet long, and the others are 4 foot long. This was plenty good enough for this installation, so this system was easily working in just a few minutes. For this TV to sound right, the treble and bass had to be turned all the way up. I know it's better to adjust the speaker volume with the remote, but for ease of use, I adjusted it to max so that the TV remote is the only one needed to adjust the volume. I'm happy to say that there is no hiss, and these speakers are plenty loud enough and sound great. Before, at volume 100 on the TV, she had trouble hearing it. Now, at volume 42, the sound is much better quality and very legible. Happy wife, happy life. Thank you Edifier for making such a great product available.

The Edifier R1280T speakers have been a fantastic addition to my setup. These bookshelf speakers deliver rich, clear sound with impressive depth for their price range. The 4-inch bass driver and 13mm silk dome tweeter provide a well-balanced audio experience that works perfectly for both music and movies. The sound is detailed without being overwhelming, offering a warm, natural tone that fills the room. One of the standout features is the adjustable tone control on the side panel, allowing me to fine-tune the bass and treble to my preference. The remote control is also a convenient feature, making it easy to adjust volume or switch input sources without getting up. The build quality is solid, with a classic wood finish that looks stylish and professional in any setting. The speakers are compact enough to fit on my desk but still produce excellent sound quality for a variety of content. For the price, the Edifier R1280T speakers are an excellent value, offering clear, balanced sound and flexibility in a beautiful design. They’re ideal for anyone looking for high-quality desktop speakers without breaking the bank. Highly recommended!

Excelentes altavoces.

These speakers looks great, sound great, have ample connectivity options, feel solid, are easy to set up and come with a remote and removable grilles. Had I bought these for about $250, I'd still be quite happy with them. I bought 2, one for my PC and one for the TV my wife plays DDR on. She's hearing notes in songs she didn't know were there. The bass slam makes it more fun for her to play. On my PC I spent a good time positioning them for good center image and clarity and adding EQ, which it doesn't need a lot of. I find the mids slightly recessed so vocals sound slightly veiled out of the box, and the treble just needs a little tinkering to sound more natural to my ears. I try to give the subbass a slight boost (rolls off below 50hz, inaudible below 30hz) but it's a bit delicate to not make the bass sound too boomy, as they're not shy on bass. They honestly don't need the EQ for most people, it's just like extracting a little extra performance. I don't recommend adjusting the knobs on the side past about 1.5-2 out of the max 6 setting. You're going to get into clipping and boomy territory pretty quick. They sound quite nice overall, particularly with movies and orchestral style music. Dynamics and imaging are quite solid. Bass has good slam and body. Clarity is great for the price, but obviously not high end. These are just well rounded and not obviously disappointing in any way. Negatives? At the highest 10% or so volume settings you can hear minor white noise if you're close to the speakers. Mine are going through my headphones' preamp first so I really don't need to max the internal power on these ever, and the pair I have hooked up to the TV don't seem to be anywhere near short on power. Mids are just slightly recessed for my tastes. If you're listening to mostly podcasts with these and don't care to tinker with EQ there might be better options. Then again, I usually like a boost around 1k on almost everything I listen to so it might just be me. The construction is solid overall, but there's sometimes small strings of what I assume is hot glue hanging off edges of a component or 2. It's not caked on, and quite easy to clean, a few seconds really. The build absolutely does not feel cheap at all outside of that. They look great and feel solid, and there's nothing flimsy with any components or connectors. I guess the only other gripe I can think of is the volume adjustment is a rotary encoder rather than a potentiometer, but that's a tradeoff of having a remote, and really not the biggest deal. Uh, the power connector is non-removable? Length is fine though. As someone who has daily driver Audeze LDC2cs going through a JDS Atom, these speakers are very impressive for being around $100. I'm not a speaker guy so my experience outside of headphones is limited, but these are extremely fun to listen to and have no glaring disappointments compared to my $1000 headphones. I might buy a 3rd set of these as a gift.

Absolutely fantastic speakers!!! Like other reviewers wrote, I can’t believe the audio quality through these small and inexpensive beauties, I’m in audio heaven! Also delivery was faster than expected and via a good courier. I’d only like to mention the speakers I received are clearly US/Canada and my bf had to rush to the shop to get a plug converter as they have a USA plug, but it was a very minor inconvenience :) online warranty registration went smoothly too
