Dorman926-135 Trunk Lid Pull Down Motor Gear Compatible with Select Models

Worked well just a little tight on internal threads.

The media could not be loaded.  Used on 1988 Pontiac Firebird.Unfortunately during assembly, the internal threads proved to be improperly cut. There were two distinct spots where the gear bound up on the worm gear shaft.Used plenty of grease and manually twisted the gear on and off the shaft many times over to get it loose enough for the motor to power through.You can still kind of hear the motor bogging down slightly over the bad threads. (See video)But overall, it works… Three stars.

I've rebuilt my pull down several times over the 20+ years of owning my 89 firebird. This iteration this part is manufactured with poorer tolerances and is too tight on the threads of the shaft. So I ended up using some valve lapping compound (something like Permatex 80036) and running it on the the threads manually until it freed up. Then cleaned and greased it. Works ok. But sadly the Dorman parts typically have these small issues that you just have to make them work... but its the only choice on this product (all other sellers are just rebranding the dorman part).Now the housing moving from clear to black plastic is an improvement as the black plastic seems stronger. I do reinforce the housing though as they are prone to breaking.I don't let anyone shut the hatch on the firebird other than me so it never gets slammed but I have found that after 10 years these parts start to lose strength.

Too tight threading onto the shaft that lifts the trunk up and down. Meticulously cleaned and lubed everything and the gear being too tight of a fit caused my trunk motor to strip it out on the first test.Into the trash this piece went and ordered one from top-down solutions instead.
