Much easier than a chimney
I've installed this unit with an oil fired hot air furnace in our insulated pole barn. This was much easier and neater than installing a SST chimney up the side of the 18' barn. A chimney would also have been a problem since snow and ice crash down off the roof and would have torn the chimney right off the building - I still had to build a small roof to protect the outside of the SS2 from this too but it was minor. Since it worked so well I also installed another in our house in the attic with another oil furnace - the better half did not want a pipe from the furnace sticking out the roof so the second is out the side of the building towards the woods. The only problem I have is since we live in the woods - small birds want to build their nests in the outside duct - I added hardware cloth to prevent this problem. The packaging of the unit from the mfg. is a little poor and the second unit was dented but I was able to bend it straight. I also had a bad DIP switch where you select the post run time of the unit I just replaced it. Both units are working great and I'm glad Amazon sells it.

Dont hesitate to do this repair
I called 2 different HVAC companies and they wanted between 1500-$1700.00 to do this job. This product was making such loud noise that I was sure it was going to go on me soon. I am just your average homeowner with a little tech knowledge but not Mr fix it. What I did wa just remove the guts from the new housing and replace it in the old housing which was jstill in great condition. It involved removing screws off the end of the unit sliding it out of the new housing and then sliding the new guts into the old housing and putting the screws on the end of the unit. The wiring was easy just take pictures and write down the wiring diagram of the old unit carefully before you do anything so you wire it up EXACTLY as it was. I found the manual online for install but I did not even need it. It also came with the new unit but I wanted to study it ahead of time. I also changed a few pipes too. Note I have a oil furnace and the unit came preset for 2 minutes as it should for my furnace. If you have a different furnace it may require a different setting per the manual so just check that before install. I should go into business just changing these units LOL it was easy......

Perfect replacement!
What a great purchase! Our furnace guy wanted $1800 to replace a few parts! We did it ourselves and replaced the entire unit for less than half that price!

top of the line
this is best unit on the market. it's all in 1 as in the motor, controller and terminal vent are included. most other brands those are sold separately. I reduced the 7 inch oil boiler flue pipe down to the necessary 4 inches and it works well. now the wood stove has it's own flue/chimney and the insurance co. is happy. most homeowners policies won't pay for any loss if you have 2 different heating units exhausting into the same chimney.

Very poor manufacture packaging, have received 2 damaged units.
I have received 2 of these from Amazon (direct) and both arrived damaged. Very poor manufacture packaging.

Add a SS2 for safety
I'm a heating contractor and service oil furnaces. The SS2 is the best!! The SS1 is a little noisier, the SS2 is simply awsome and easy to install. A safe and perfect way to vent flue exaust side wall. DO NOTE: It is against code to have 2 differant fuels in the same chimney flue!!!!!! "Natural gas, LP gas, Oil, and of coarse wood, pellets, or corn are considered fuels"The SS2 is the ticket, Be safe.
