Best Show Ever
From the start I watched Third Watch religiously. Waiting from week to week for the next episode was always agony. The characters and story lines were always amazing and accurate. Your heart would literally be pounding and it had you on the edge of your seat. I know a couple FDNY firefighters who loved to watch this show and always felt it was realistic. It really got you into the lives of the people who do this. Storylines like Docs, especially post 9/11 made everyone feel the pain of these people, if only a little.NBC killed this show. Switching days and times and leaving them on Friday with no good shows in the other timeslots. In the end they were simply interested in getting that new L&O off the ground which ended up tanking. They dragged things out and made everyone wonder if the season finale was the season finale or the series finale. I couldn't stand it, that show did not deserve that kind of treatment. (Which NBC also did to Crossing Jordan, another stupid mistake.)L&O actually filmed on my college campus while I was there a few times and with a few weeks of Third Watch left someone said they were there again on one of the side streets. Turns out, it was the next to last day of filming for Third Watch on crappy little Hall Street in Brooklyn... They were filming the scence where Det. Yokas was reunited with Emily after Bosco killed that weirdo vampire kid Dante. My friend and I decided to go over and check things out and the cast and crew were so nice. They talked to us about our school and what we did, where we were from, they just let us hangout and watch as long as we wanted, talking to us inbetween takes. I met Jason Wiles, Molly Price, Anthony Ruivivar and Yvonne Jung. It was so amazing to be able to thank them for their work. I told them I wasn't a nut or anything and I realized they aren't those people, but it felt like I was losing friends. They all did such an amazing job of bringing those characters to life and so few shows are able to make their characters that 'real.'I had to say how stupid NBC was for doing what they were and they were all very professional about the whole thing. They said seeing as it was the last couple of days of filming, they were feeling pretty down, but to hear what I (and people like myself) had to say is the reason they do their job and to be able to make a show that special for people makes it all worth it.I have to say that after that, watching the episodes that were left made me feel worse, because now they were real people to me and I saw their sadness about the show ending. At the same time, it made this show even more special than it already was. The actors simply wanted to do their jobs well and entertain people, yet at the same time they obviously felt an obligation to portray the people who do those jobs as best as they could. It wasn't just another show, it was a show about 'real people' about real heroes. Its a shame it couldn't continue on, especially after a time in our history where so many people who do these jobs for a living sacrificed themselves while more and more do it everyday. Apparently, people are more interested in regenerating cheerleaders saving them rather than the people who actually do it...Well, not for me, hurry up with 2-6!

Third Watch Fans - I'd like your advice!
I, as much as anybody, am a big "Third Watch" fan! I didn't take to it at first because it took the time slot of my then favorite show "Law & Order: SVU", but once I gave it a chance, I was hooked! I found a website that offered the entire Third Watch series on 18 DVD's. The set cost $97.00 total and it finally arrived a couple of days ago. Before I ordered this set, I was not aware that this series was not yet available. I had checked different sites on the Internet (including Amazon) but did not see that it was available, but some didn't have dates and I thought maybe I was reading from outdated blogs. Then I came across blogs from people in Australia who said they had it for sale over there and in the UK. So I thought maybe, that's where this website gets their copies to sale. Long story short, I ordered it. I did receive the set(however, it arrived much later than stated on their website). Here's my dilemma -- It obviously is not the "genuine" copy from Warner Bros. Studio. It is recorded from the original series from TV. When I first realized this, I was diappointed, but I decided I would watch a few episodes before jumping to conclusions. As I said, there are 18 DVD's and they are in a nice case with the "Third Watch" cover with some of the main characters on it. I have not gotten through all 18 DVD's yet, but the first couple of them have 8 episodes each. I assume that is how the format will flow through the rest of the DVD's. Although it is a "copied" version, it's suprisingly good quality overall. The commercials are edited out and the music used is the same as far as I can tell. Where the commericals were, the screen blacks out for a second or two and then picks up where it would as if it never stopped. There is only one thing I have found that bothers me a little bit. Throughout the show, there are these couple of seconds of hesitations. It only lasts for a second or two, but it's quite frequent. I haven't figured out why that happens. At first, it really bothered me and I was set to send them back for a refund. But as I have continued to watch them, either I'm getting used to it and it is not as noticable to me now, or the recording has gotten better. I don't know which it is. Between that, and the fact that the company I ordered from was not one that made me feel "comfortable" through out the ordering and receiving process, I hesitate to send them back. Another reason is the price. I have seen that Amazon is doing their "pre-ordering" for the 02/05/2008 release date of the first season only and that it is like $42 I think. I don't remember how many seasons there actually was, but at $42 a season, that can get rather pricey! So, here's my question -- Would any other fans of "Third Watch" keep what they've got or return it and wait for the studios release? I welcome all comments!P.S. If anyone wants the website I ordered from, I'll be happy to share, but with a "warning" attached! Thanks for your input, Third Watch fans!

The 3pm-11pm Shift. Or the "Third Watch."
Great pilot. Created by the future executive producers of Southland, this show focuses on the first-responders. It's about police officers, paramedics and firefighters and their battles on and off the job. The drama is just so intense and surprising that you just might forget to breath at one point. It was another great show to come out of the 1990's along with NYPD Blue and Law & Order and it definitely worth the watch.UPDATE:I have watched the entire first season of Third Watch on DVD and I loved it. I loved watching this show about police officers, paramedics and firefighters deal with their problems on and off their jobs. Out of all them, my favorite team was the Doc and Carlos. There was just so much conflict between their characters. Doc, the older one who goes above and beyond to help people and Carlos, the younger selfish one who does not care about helping people in the same way. I loved how Sully and Yokas were such carring people as opposed to Bosco who I assume will probably grow up to be Dirty Harry. The episode with J.K Simmons made me cry at the end. It was that sad. One of the few times I cried. Last time I cried was when Bobby Simone Died. (And when Will's father left him again on Fresh Prince.)Until netflix puts this up, I strongly recommend getting the DVD. There are interesting extras such as the making of the show and a blooper reel. I usually don't watch shows again after I've watched them the first time, but I sometimes feel like watching this show again from the beginning. And I would if I didn't already have shows to watch on my list.

PURE GOLD
One year in the life of New York's emergency services - focus here on the police, paramedics and firefighters of the 3-11.00pm shift. Prepare at once to be swept away by the pace, depth, sheer realism of it all. The first few episodes are a bit hard to take in with so much happening, so many people involved. Soon the central characters become more familiar - all totally believable and extremely well acted. Each episode provides much food for thought and is completely involving - viewers destined for laughter, tears, at times unbearable tension and the occasional very real shock. Here there is no such thing as an ordinary day, especially with so many guns around.Characters forever surprise, showing unexpected aspects. At first Bosco seems just a "Jack the Lad" - ultra right wing, homophobic, but revelations about his childhood increase understanding and there are many instances of a more caring side. Yokas, a thoroughly dependable cop, at one point is goaded beyond endurance and deals devastatingly with a jeering gang leader. We grow to care what happens to them - and to Doc, Kim, Bobby, Jimmy, Carlos. The relationship between new recruit Ty Davis and veteran Sully is of special interest - Ty the son of Sully's former partner, shot dead in front of him ten years earlier. Nobody thought Ty would last but he emerges all the stronger. In a way, so do we.Episode 17 deserves special mention - for once, no frenetic activity. The crews are on standby as Presidential hopefuls debate. They reflect on callouts never to be forgotten, politics, religion, the death penalty. Here is a script to treasure. Absolutely superb (as they all are actually). This is television of a very high order - unsurprisingly as it comes from the creators of "The West Wing" and "ER". What DOES surprise, and greatly sadden, is that it was never given a prime viewing spot over here.Thank you, Amazon reviewers. Your wholehearted praise alerted me to a series I would otherwise have missed.

a wonderful series
After purchasing "Rescue Me" Series One which I thought was rubbish I thought I would take a gamble on Third Watch. Boy, did I get lucky? Yes this is compulsive viewing my wife and I cannot leave it alone. The action is first class the characters believable. We watch as many as three episodes at one sitting and it always leaves wanting more. We are now on our last disc and it looks as if Amazon is going let us down. Series two is Region One U.S. We do have a multi-region dvd player but our friends and relatives do not. Also Amazon are asking top price for a series which is now nine years old. In addition it would appear series three, four, five and six are not available on Amazon. Anyone looking for a first action series buy this. Amazon please get series two - sixRegion Two please please.
