Will update after trying-
Delivered in 2 days, but box had obviously been open before-not usually a good sign. Torn at the corner, taped at the bottom, and top of box was partially ‘undone’. Also delivery person put it on wet driveway and box is siggy( I have a covered porch)Unit works, but really is hard to sit on, and I think too high to add another pillow to soften the seat. Will try it out with my 95 yo mother, but my guess is it will need to be returned

I just love this as I'm physically challenged and can't rise from my office chair easily. I think I might even buy another one. It's very comfortable and just push the switch and you don't have to hold it down. The switch arm is moveable and is by the arm of my chair. I just return it back to level and it's ready to go again. I got the smallest one, I'm a size 14-16, and it fits perfectly. Buy this one! The motor is in the center of the cushion and feels hard and gives a low backache. So I strapped a dining room chair cushion on. I recommend you get a gel cushion and that should make it much more comfortable. I've used it daily for about 5 years and have had no problems with the motor, but a large or heavy person might have an issue with it. I turn chair sideways to back it up to a wall when going to stand up to stabilize it, and the left arm of my chair is against my desk so it won't swivel. I do the same to sit down. I can't sit or stand from anything that moves. Remember it's the back of seat that raises, so plant your feet tightly against the floor so you won't slide.

This Lifting Seat Works welll
We purchased this item in January 2013, after purchasing and returning the Uplift Technologies UPE-P100 UPEASY Power Seat. This unit is wider than the UPE-P100, so it is more comfortable. It raised and lowered us properly on different kinds of seating - a softer recliner, a firmer recliner, and a couch. It lifts a person up about halfway to a standing position. One other nice feature about this unit is the up/down controller. It is mounted on a pod on the end of a flexible rod, and is permanently mounted. This is much better than the plastic paddles used on the less expensive models by Uplift Technologies. We did return the unit because it did not meet our persoanl needs. However, there was nothing wrong with it mechanically.

ABSOLUTELY NO RETURN FOR ANY REASON
The title says it all! This device is only advertised and sold through Amazon and will not be accepted for return by t manufacturer. It is heavy and requires a plug in power supply, no battery option. This severely limits the usefulness of the device. It’s rather noisy also. Although it does have some usefulness, there’s much better value for a lifter from other companies.

It isn't comfortable to sit on for a long period of time
I bought this for my father. He wasn't able to get up off of the couch on his own. This was life changing. It makes it so that he can get up and down by himself. It isn't comfortable to sit on for a long period of time, so we got a large piece of foam from the fabric store to put on top of it. This is the perfect combo because the seat provides enough unmoving stability to give him the resistance he needs to get up & the foam allows him to sit for long periods of time. I am so grateful to this seat & that something like this exists. I highly recommend it.

Good product, but there are a few flies in the ointment
I bought this for my 90-year old father who refused to replace his favorite chair with one that lifts him. It works well as described. Just be aware that it's very tall, so before you buy it, imagine yourself sitting in the chosen chair with a 4" platform under your bottom. You lose your arm rests--they are blocked by the cushion. Your feet don't reach the ground. If your chair is a recliner and you're accustomed to leaning back and resting your head on the chair back, that's not going to happen--your head will stick up above the back of the chair because you're sitting 4" higher now. If you're willing to put up with those changes, you'll be pleased with this product. If, like my dad, you want everything to be exactly as it has always been, then you probably won't like it. I'm giving it 4 stars because it's exactly what they describe; but I'm just letting you know that there are a few flies in the ointment.

Not comfortable
I ordered this for my 93 year old Uncle. It did not work right out of the box. I returned it and am getting ready to order it again. Hopefully, the next one will work. Didn't matter where we plugged it in, would not work at all. This is an additional comment for my review. We received the replacement for the defective one. It is hard and not cushioned enough for an elderly person who sits in it after 1 hour of watching TV. Had to return the second seat, as well. Suggestion: Needs to be more cushiony and comfortable for elderly.

This is not just due to old bones - even a 14 year old said it was too hard - like sitting on a wooden chair seat
We bought this for my 86 year old Mother, and it does function. However, it is so hard, it hurts her to sit on it. There is about 1/2 inch of foam on top of a hard surface, and it is just not enough. This is not just due to old bones - even a 14 year old said it was too hard - like sitting on a wooden chair seat. The nature of the mechanical function also means you can't put another cushion on top or under the stretch cover. The product is also really thick, so when you put it on anything but a low chair, your feet dangle (this from a person 5'7" tall). Everyone should also note, that this cannot be used on anything but a chair that has sides to hold it in place. We tried it on a sofa with a couch cane as a grabbing aid to get up, but it is too tippy and dangerous. She was really disappointed, as she liked the mechanism, but a little re-engineering is in order.
