Green Acres is like a situation comedy spin-off from the Twilight Zone!
Green Acres is timeless and hilarious -- it's like a situation comedy out of the Twilight Zone. It wouldn't matter if a person watched it a hundred years from now. It would still be insanely brilliant! But I should note that it's best to watch Green Acres with the following decor in your room: by your side you should have your moon rocks that beep in the night when exposed to moon light, and also you should have on your wall a print of the painting by Arnold the Pig called "Nude at a Filling Station". It's too bad they never retrieved the rocket ship that the boy inventor built to bring back the moon rocks, but unfortunately it sank in Simpson's Swamp. Also, no school administrators should "expostulate" a pig from school for painting a nude, because the elementary school children will stage a riot in protest. You might also want to be eating fine cuisine while watching the series -- something like a tuna-fish-and-jelly sandwich. Or "hotcakes" that can substitute as hockey pucks if you don't finish (can't choke down) your meal. Or you could eat eggs that have been laid by a chicken that conveniently lays square eggs (they won't roll off your table that way). Also if you're ever in the mood for pizza, make sure to call your local pizza parlor and order a "Great Big Yecchh". That's a 36"-wide supreme pizza the Green Acres way. It includes additional delicious toppings like chocolate chips, sardines, raisins and sour cream.Other habits you might want to embrace is that whenever you want to listen to the latest music hits on the radio, make sure you position your ear close to the stomach of Eleanor the Cow. And make sure you turn off the radio before you go to bed because it keeps Eleanor awake when you leave the radio on all night. And it gives her indigestion. If you're into fine personal grooming you should follow Eb Dawson's tips. He shampoos his hair in the morning, combs and parts his hair neatly, then sticks his head in a freezer until it's white with frost and ice. That way his part lasts all day long. Also he saves money by cutting his own hair. He took a mail-order barber course. It should be noted that no woman with a gender ambiguous name was ever harassed on this show: I'm referring now to Ralph Monroe, the Handy Woman who in the entire length of the series could never finish building a fireplace. And if you love business people and their ethics, you'll love Mr. Haney: he absolutely symbolizes the business community and their ethics. Make sure you show your children the episodes that feature Mr. Haney so they'll be prepared to live in a "buyer beware" commercial culture.By the way, if you should want to complain to Shout about this complete series collection of Green Acres, make sure you climb your telephone pole on a day when it's not raining. Or you could try to show up in person at a Shout office, and pick a number to be waited on. But remember they have only an incomplete number set: 3 and 82. So if you get 82 it would be unfair of you to want to be waited on before the people who came in after you who got the lower number. Or you could just send your complaint by way of a "Special Ledivery Detter". But don't be impatient; it might not be delivered until Old Mail Day, which, as of the making of this series, the late '60s, was still delivering mail from as long ago as 1917. But that delay did save Fred Ziffel from being drafted into World War I, didn't it? So late mail delivery does have it's virtues. If Fred had been a casualty of the war, he'd never have had Arnold the Pig, because Fred Ziffel is the father of Arnold the Pig, as you know.Further more, if anyone should ever try to talk sense to you, just cut them off in mid-sentence -- you'll just be saving them from making a fool of themselves in this Twilight Zone world we live in. You've been warned!

Beautiful set, great quality
This box set is exceptional. It features beautifully packaged discs, with one season neatly housed per case. Each case contains two disc-holders, ensuring secure placement for both the front and back discs. The layout is designed with precision to prevent the back from dislodging when removing the front disc. Additionally, every case includes a comprehensive list of episodes for the respective season, accompanied by brief plot summaries. The discs themselves boast vibrant prints of Green Acres characters, adding a delightful touch of color to the collection. We opted to purchase from Amazon for hassle-free returns, despite it being $12 more than a set available on eBay. Our decision was driven by concerns regarding quality and packaging, yet we discovered the set to be on par with the MGM edition (we already owned Seasons 1 and 2 from MGM), with no issues encountered with any of the discs. In summary, this is a top-notch set that we wholeheartedly recommend to any Green Acres enthusiasts.

Personal view, technical details (for Australian or non-US viewers), Postage and Currency Issues.
Personal view:When I was a child, "Green Acres" was shown on the 9 Network and its associated digital stations in Australia.Unfortunately the series was never played in its entirety from seasons 1 to 6. Whenever I had the opportunity to watch the show, I would laugh out at its absurd and funny one liners. It was at times corny and silly, and once in a rare occasion risque. You can research and read reviews online which go in depth about the content, mores of the 1960s and the actors.I have always wanted the chance to purchase the complete series. For me it was important to purchase LEGITIMATE copies. Unfortunately if you wanted a LEGITIMATE copy you could only get seasons 1 to 3. I've longed for a long time to order seasons 4-6. That's until now. Other places offering all seasons of "Green Acres" before the SHOUT Factory release on October 17 were not official and/or recorded "off the tv".As a result I pre-ordered on the 7th October for the 17th October release. The due date was November 3. I received it on October 31.Now I have a LEGITIMATE copy of "Green Acres" to play to my heart's content. For Australian or non-USA purchasers:Technical details:DVD: Region 1. Your DVD or blu-ray player must be able to play Region 1 DVDs. Check your DVD or blu-ray manual.Analogue TV System: NTSC. Your old-fashioned CRT tv must be able to play NTSC. Irrelevant for digital (widescreen) displays which can playback NTSC or PAL DVDs.Picture and sound quality (subjective): Excellent colour reproduction and the sound track is clean. Noise and pops seem to have been significantly reduced. You can here the opening theme clearly and the closing theme clearly without those booth announcer voiceovers.Postage and to Australia (only): according to the Amazon page for the product, the products ships to Australia. As at October 7, 2017, the postage to Australia was about $6.24 (US) which is about $9 (AUD).Currency and credit cards Australia (only): The original pre-order price was $84.99 (US). It cost me $127 (AUD) including postage to Australia. Even if you pay $127 (AUD) your credit card company will charge a 3% currency conversion fee of $127. The additional charge amounted to about $3.82. So you have to take account of adding currency conversion of 3% to the final price - check your credit card statement. NOTE: As at October 31, the post pre-order price fell to $70 (US) (ok $69.96(US)) so the final cost may well be less subject to currency at time of purchase and rent.Thank you,Anthony, Sydney Australia

Great Series, but why the price hike?
Love this series. Nothing beats old TV. Funny with more heart. Glad I bought it when I did. I was going to also buy it for my nephew for his birthday. But the price went up $10 on Amazon. Now; I'll need to get it from Walmart, since the price is actually a few cents less than what I originally bought it for. I would prefer buying through Amazon. Why can't the sellers on Amazon match Walmart's on-line sellers price?

Excellent 1960s comedy - funnier than many shows on TV today.
Excellent box set of the hilarious 1960s comedy Green Acres.A caution to some who may be easily offended that there are several "not politically correct" things (by today's standards) said in some episodes, but this was the 60s and it is presented as it originally aired. Remember, history is not there for your approval, it's there to learn from.Eddie Albert & Eva Gabor are excellent as the main characters, and the repeating cast characters are all hilarious too (I'm especially fond of the work by Alvy Moore as Hank Kimball and Pat Buttram as Mr Haney). The occasional talk back to the camera/audience and references to the "names" (credits) on screen (or on eggs/walls/etc.) at the start of the show (mostly by Lisa Douglas/Eva Gabor) are always a highlight.Disc picture quality is very good, though some episodes appear a little "grainy" and sometimes the background of the scenes seems a bit blurry compared to most. Considering some of these episodes are well over 55 years old now that could simply be that some originals weren't in as good a shape as others. Also the sound levels on some episodes are inconsistent (quieter, or louder, than others).Still those are minor quibbles and this is highly recommended.

The DVDs are great; pity the cases aren't of the same quality...
As you can read from the title of this review, the DVDs of Green Acres are wonderful. And as an extra bonus they contain closed captions, even if it is not easy to get these to play (I've managed to do it with VLC Media Player on my laptop). The DVDs arrived a few days earlier that I anticipated, which was good, but unfortunately ALL SIX of the cases had been damaged internally during transit; the pivots that hold the discs in place were broken, and some of the discs were lightly scratched by the loose pieces of plastic (fortunately, they seem to play okay). So I have had to order replacement cases (of a different type, as I could not find the same kind commercially available online). The box itself is made of very thin, flimsy cardboard, and is therefore not very strong. Having read other reviews of the Green Acres Complete Series, I was expecting a much more rigid and impressive container. The actual discs are obviously what I wanted and on that count, I cannot complain. But I cannot give a five-star rating when the packaging leaves so much to be desired!!

Goodbye City Life - Green Acres We Are There
I have yet to sit down and watch this set, but I have seen the show on tv and have watched a few of the earlier releases as seasonal sets. The humor and characters are classic. The show is tied in to other classics like The Beverly Hillbillies & Petticoat Junction and the humour is timeless. The cast of the show was fantastic and featured some very talented people.Eddie Albert plays Oliver Douglas, a big city lawyer who moves to the country to get away from it all and farm the land. However he gets conned into buying land which nothing will grown on, but that does not ever stop him trying. He is surrounded by - how can I put it politely - people who are a few cards short of a full deck (which of course feeds into the shows humour) - pretty much everyone in the small town of Hooterville. Or "Hootersville" as Lisa Douglas a.k.a. Eva Gabor used to call it - lol. These people all seem to be on the same page and "in" on everything - and poor Oliver is always out of the loop. Also worth a mention is the character "Arnold The Pig". A smart pig who loves to watch tv and who is raised by his human owners "parents" - The Ziffles, as if he was their own child. It will be nice to finally sit down and watch this complete set.I enjoy this show, if you enjoy laughing, I expect you will as well.
