Great classroom activity.
This is an excellent STEM kit. Quite pricey for what is actually included but definitely very educational. In the kit, you have several items included which are the essentials for carrying out the activity. You get: 3x Owl pellets, gloves, plastic tweezers, a wood stick/probe, magnifying glass and an in-depth manual which was very helpful and explanatory. It may be a little bit too in-depth for the age group this is targeted. I think this booklet/manual will be most useful if the children have an adult helping them through it so everything is properly explained to them. In fact, I think this would be best suited in a classroom environment. The activity itself was a little bit messy (it just creates a bit of dust which goes everywhere). I would recommend preparing an area for it and covering whatever surface in newspaper or something of the sort so it is easier to clean up after the fact. It was very educational and interesting and is really a great way to get children interested in nature.

Be Prepared for Animal Dust, Debris, Hair and Bones!
Our school-aged boy dissected one of three pellets today. In it he found the skull, ribcage and the grey fur of a mouse. In the set along with three pellets you get:A set of adult sized surgical gloves;A pair of plastic tweezers;A magnifying glass;A wooden dowelAnd a very good educational manual geared towards the ability of a child aged 7/8 plus. The set is a little squeamish for those that arent into dissection. The pellet is very dry and dessicated. Very dry. You will create dust and debris mess as you tease the pellet apart using the plastic tweezers and wooden dowel. If your little one suffers from allergies to dust or pet dander, then this set is probably not suitable as the dust does tends to get everywhere. Ideally, inwould have liked to see a surgical mask to be included in this set...or perhaps even they suggest that one be used, since almost everyone has one.The manual is descriptive and very directional, with lots of interesting facts and plenty of diagrams and detail on anatomy and bone structure. It is geared for the pre-teens. Some children might find the write-up to be long-winded. For that reason, as a past teacher, I can see this set being quite popular in a biology classroom but probably more befitting a classroom in the 70s or 80s.Would I recommend it?For the right child, it's definitely a very educational and hugely intriguing hands-on set, which offers further suggestions on how to rubberise your newly discovered bone and otherittle experiments for which you'll need to make a short trip to your nearest hardware store.4 stars

Owl pellet education kit
This science kit is excellent in terms of the valuable education that you can derive from it but not so excellent in terms of value-for-money. The contents of the kit are few but there are three real owl pellets and a very good guide book which gives a lot of information and instruction. This kit would make a great STEM club lesson. As a child, I always wanted to find an owl pellet and examine the contents to see what the owl had hunted but I never found any. I think that I needed a bit more information to target the right areas when looking for pellets. This kit comes with three genuine pellets but it's an American kit I think, so I'm not sure what species of owl the pellets come from and the range of bones in the pellets may be more extensive than what you might find in just British owl pellets. If you are an educator or parent with children aged 8 or above, I would highly recommend this kit - it's a great introduction to the natural world and science.

Cool science
Better than any text book! Getting down and dirty with owl pellets had my children horrified in advance, but pretty well engaged (by their standards!) during the process and saying how cool it was afterwards. Which is definitely a win as my attempts at educational activities usually fall very flat.It is well worth explaining up front that this isn't poop, as that is the primary cause of concern. And it is extremely dry which removes any remaining disgust. The rodent bones are tiny but fascinating and we had plenty across the three pellets. Of course I was then tasked with giving them a proper burial! When asked if they would do this set again, both said they'd like to get friends around to do it, which is a clear thumbs up.

Fascinating set
I originally thought this was expensive as you receive so few items in box but then I looked up price of owl pellets and realised this was actually good value. This is fascinating to do and amazing how many tiny bones we found in pellet I examined with niece Boxing Day.I also discovered pellets are not poop as I thought but coughed up by owls as they are unable to digest bones.Make great gift for any child ( or adult 😅) interested in science.Currently reduced to £19.99 and recommended

A good STEM activity
My kids dissected owl pellet at school before and they really enjoyed it. They did the activity in group so they would love to do it again by themselves and would have more time to investigate. There are 3 owl pellets in the set, with the tools provided for the dissection. Owl pellets are the indigestible parts that are regurgitated through their beaks. It's difficult to find owl pellets so you will need to buy it.The booklet provided give a clear instruction on what to do and the steps. It even go further by looking at the bones and the elements that make up the bones. Further experiment on bone digestion requires using vinegar and coke (not included in the set). This is a good STEM activity and it's better to do it with adults guiding and explanation. Price is a bit expensive I think but since it is not easy to find owl pellet, it is still a good STEM activity for kids to learn about nature and animal.

Great learning experience
I remember dissecting owl pellets when I was in fifth grade in science. It’s one of my favorite school memories. I wanted my children to have that experience too and Voila, I find this !This comes with 4 owl pellets which we spent 3 hours dissecting. An 8 year old and 6 year old, entertained, for 3 hours ?! Eureeka! We had a blast with this project. The booklet it comes with is a great guide, offering many answers to questions my 40 year old self long ago forgot the answers to. There is a portion in the book that recommends soaking some of the bones in vinegar and some of them in soda (coke, pop for us Midwesterners). The point of this is to watch the bones go from delicate, nearly brittle to almost rubber like. We did this for the week recommended, the soda molded a bit so we didn’t soak the bones as long as we did in the vinegar but it was pretty cool. Not only does this kit help teach about Owls and their digestive systems but oddly, it is also a bit of a “death positive” learning experience. As a funeral director, I appreciate finding ways (age appropriately)to teach my children about death, whether it be animals or humans. I HIGHLY recommend this. 😊
