Our ice maker broke four years after purchasing a very expensive, high end refrigerator, and of course, it broke the day after the warranty expired!! We refused to spend the money on a new ice maker, so we went the old fashioned way. I had trouble finding any assortment of ice cube trays, and the ones we did find were horrible. My entire family used to spend hours filling up ice cube trays and trying to pry the ice out of them. They trays were blue and looked "cute" with oval molds for the ice, but were impossible to deal with and the quality was atrocious. We tried letting them sit a bit, running cold, warm and hot water on the back of the tray, but invariably, a few stubborn ice cubes did not want to come out, and the partially melted ice cubes then stuck to each other and became frozen solid into this huge block of ice. I was tempted to take it out and let it float in the pool and gather the kids to study how fast an iceberg melts on a warm day. I brought out the screw driver to pry the ice apart instead. Anyway, we tried everything short of bringing out power tools, and once I almost had to replace my new granite counter - after giving up on prying out the ice cubes, I tried slamming the tray on the counter and all that I got were ice shards sprayed all over my kitchen which I then had to clean up, and the thought that I may have cracked my counter... We were at our wit's end!!! I didn't remember making ice as such a miserable and traumatic experience when I was a kid...so I finally decided to embark on a search for the perfect ice cube tray - I knew it had to be out there. ENTER the Rubbermaid Easy Release Ice Cube Tray. I have to admit, I had many doubts but after reading a few of the reviews I decided to purchase six of them. I figured if they didn't work, I would send them back, and they possibly could not be worse than what we already had! When they arrived, we immediately got to work, filling up the trays. They felt nice and thick, fairly flexible and form appearance alone, blew away our old trays. After a few hours, we prepared for the major test - we started emptying the ice cubes into the ice bin and lo and behold, to the utter amazement of our disbelieving hearts, we barely touched the trays and the ice slid right off!! Every single ice cube!!! I think I heard angelic music and I was quite as happy as the happiest day in my life!! We now have a full ice bin that is a pleasure to refill. I would highly recommend these to any one making ice manually. They are a God send. They will add years to your life by helping you avoiding the major aggravation, stress and disappointment or poor quality, badly designed ice trays. Go out and buy them today!!!

I've been using the older style Rubbermaid ice cube trays for years but often found the cubes were hard to release from the tray and would splinter. These new trays are wonderful. No problem getting the cubes out; so easy! The cubes are slightly smaller than with the old style trays, but I can fit 4, rather than 3, in my freezer. So no problem there. I would recommend these trays especially for anyone who had arthritis in their hands, wrists. I love these.

I'm caregiver for a disabled guy who uses many trays of ice cubes on a daily basis ( 3 trays, 3-4 times every 24 hours). To fulfill this need, I've purchased different designs of ice trays in the past few weeks, both plastic and metal, lever-operated. The metal (aluminum) levers broke almost immediately, and the cheap plastic ones were either too stiff or developed cracks or needed a lot of effort to break the surfact tension and release the ice. This product from Rubbermaid works perfectly! A gentle twist and the ice cubes practically explode from the tray. And the built-in flexability makes it less likely to crack over time. Whatever plastic mix they're using, they've got it right. They're not cheap, but definitely worth it.

I've tried several types of ice trays but none pleased me. I like the old style trays that easily flex and release the cubes as they are twisted gently. These are almost perfect. They work well. I would love them more if they were just a little bit deeper to make a slightly larger cube. . I'm adjusting, although it takes more cubes to fill up a glassthan my old trays.

These RUBBER MADE ice cube trays are a vast improvement over my old ones. Cubes slip out easily and the trays stack without searching for groves.

If you told me I'd one day I'd review ice trays I would have said you're crazy - but here I am. These things are awesome! When something as mundane as ice cube trays impress me it's worth mentioning to others.I thought four was too many. I was wrong, they provide a lot of ice without taking up too much space in the freezer. It's like owning an ice-making machine. The trays stack snuggly and securely. The release is effortless. Often cubes fall out just by turning the tray over. Highly recommended.

Good, easy to remove

I agree with all the reviews that ice cubes are sooo easy to remove from these trays - they work like magic; the best I’ve ever used for sure. I should note however they were a little long for the pull our freezer drawer on my fridge, but this was easily solved by cutting off some of the edges with a scissors.
