WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY
This modem is excellent. I have not had a single fax interrupted. I had a hard time installing it -- in fact, I had to call the company and they helped me step by step by phone. So except for that, I am very happy with this purchase.

Too many failed fax connections using class 2.1
I purchased four of these MT9234-USB-CDC-XR modems to use with our fax server to take advantage of their class 2.1 (33.6K) capability. We had been using MT5634-USB modems, which only support class 2 at 14400. I've tried the MT9234 modems on two different machines, both running Windows Server 2003, one was R1 and the other R2, and the modems would regularly hang with a fatal time out when receiving faxes using class 2.1. I tried using a powered USB hub, as well as connecting them directly to the ports on the servers. In the end, I had to force them to operate at class 2, so I'm no better off than before. I have spoken to someone who says they don't experience these problems at all in class 2.1 when connected to a machine running Window 7 64 bit. That's the reason why I haven't returned them yet. Unfortunately, I don't have a spare Windows 7 box at the moment to set up as a fax server. Yes , I did download the latest drivers and firmware from Multi-Tech, but no difference.
