A lot of fun for not a lot of money
Fun, addictive, cheap (got it for like $6), and isn't a time hog. A great value all-round. This game has given me more hours of fun than the latest Total War Rome II game (for which I paid over $50).Okay, the graphics are Pentium II, late 90's level and the game is mostly played out on a 2D map, but so what? The game play is pretty amazing where you are essentially a fleet Admiral trying to defeat enemies with the resources that you have (all the while they are trying to kill you). There is a bit of a learning curve because to get the max out of your fleet you have to know the capabilities of each of your ships, sensors and weapons systems fairly intimately. I am a bit of a military buff so I knew a lot about each vessel and its corresponding weapons systems rather intuitively before even playing the game. However, for the novice, be prepared to pour over the digital manual before you let the computer AI embarrass you.Again, not a time hog. A typical single mission scenario takes about an hour. Campaigns are longer, of course, but you have the option of going that route if you have the time. You can create your own missions, which I think is cool.I have Windows 7 and it runs okay. It flickers in the beginning, but I hear there is a patch for that. I've just been too lazy to download it. I tried to load it on a Windows 8 machine and it works for a little while then it crazes.

Works with Windows 10....
Wasn't sure if it was Windows 10 compatible since I've only used it with Windows 7. I'll play a mission now and again because of the nostalgia. All of the missions, scenarios and fleet composition are what I can relate to having served in the '80s.

Runs OK on Windows 7
This was a long time favorite originally released by Janes and ran on windows XP, the graphics were awesome for its time but did have its issues with crashes... I've missed it! this version is released by sonalysts and written for windows 7 and supposed to be compatible with Vista and XP.It comes with all the former preloaded scenarios and format but the introduction is far less intense and graphics less realistic... I'm running Win 7 with Intel quad core (3rd gen), 6 GB, SSD, Nvidia GPU, it runs fine but is very slow through the launching phase. I had to default to Intel graphics because GPU too advanced but still has slow launch and I usually hit CTRL+ALT+DEL ( task manager) and select maximize to get directly to launch (dashboard). It's game on from there, and have had no issues with crashes...! I have never played the multiplayer option and wonder if this game has enough of a following to be worth purchasing online sever like Gamestop... Does anyone know?

The ultimate Naval warfare sim
Uses this to demonstrate to CO's/PCO's how anti ship missiles have changed the game. The days of keeping the firing keys on a chain are gone. Not withstanding the real concern of inadvertently engaging friendlies, either enable automatic Ship Self DEfense system or sink.

Outstanding!
I had an original version of this game years ago. When it first came out, it had several bugs but as it is such an outstanding game, I played it all the way up until Windows Vista, then it would not work with that OS. I searched high and low for quite a while without being able to find a current copy that would work and finally found this one. Upon installing it and then playing it, I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that most of the bugs had been worked out and now I could play my favorite naval warfare game.

The game is not very intuitive.
It's difficult to think about strategy, You're to busy doing tedious stuff just to move the boat around, fire at an enemy, or make repairs. While you're doing all that, you're being fired on from so far away that you can't even see the enemy.
