I adore the Turner Japanesque Acryl Gouache. I also have a full set of the more traditional Turner Acryl Gouache, which is also amazing, but I PREFER the Japanesque Acryl Gouache.The difference is that the Japanesque gouache has a different, grittier texture, almost coarse, as if small grains of sand were scattered throughout. This quality makes it seem as if the Japanesque Acryl Gouache were more difficult to paint with, but the opposite is actually true. The rich texture creates a stunning texture that enhances your work FOR you. Yes: FOR you. Your work is more strikingly appealing instantly.Plus, the colors in this set are ASTONISHING, and, yes, they handily beat out the more traditional colors in the other set. Pale greens, cloud-wisp blues, shockingly deep crimsons, a deep pink that resonates with beauty and charm. The colors, I promise you, are breathtaking. BREATHTAKING. Earthy, bold, unusual--to die for.I love this small set so much that I IMMEDIATELY ordered the larger set. Yes, I fell in love at first sight. At first painting.The only con to the Turner Acryl Gouaches (both sets, the regular and the Japanesque) is that their longevity is not terrific. Plan to use up each set in about a year, and you'll be safe. The paint goes bad much faster than I expected.Otherwise, I ADORE this set and predict that I'll have no trouble using it up pronto.

I was looking for a plein air medium: oil paints drying time is problematic for transport and exhibit (sympathies to the gallery-goer who brushed against the impasto painting this spring, red oil isn't coming out of whatever you were wearing). Watercolor is fine but there are frequently pop-up showers so having an alternative is useful. Gave acrylic a try and it just wasn't doing it for me. Shout out to SoHo though, smooth paint and brilliant colors; unfortunately, not a good match for my work. The Acryl Gouache was. Color range is adequate for landscape painting, mixed smoothly without muddying, transparent enough for layering a couple of thin layers. Read the insert! It saved me from a few missteps. Colors are subtle soft and they aren't kidding about velvety matte finish. Planning on trying it with sumi-e next.

The structure is more grainy than I would have expected, but it applies well in a transparent and opaque layer. Good for big format. I can recommend it.

I'm reviewing the 36 set. I really love these! Tl;dr All the tubes were in perfect condition, very opaque, high quality, vibrant, dry quickly and are completely matte when dry. I've used Turner acryl gouache before so I knew I liked the brand, but I was nervous spending money on this many paints at once especially in the case that any paints arrive dried out. Thankfully, none of the paints were too watery or dry and they all flowed really well! As you can see from the swatches I made on the tubes themselves, the color labels are very accurate. I took a picture of the few that didn't perfectly match and they're still really close. (I also took a picture of the backs of some of the tubes because I always want to see both sides of a product before I buy them, even if I can't read the language on the label)I know from using these paints before that a small amount goes a long way. Since they're so concentrated they're still opaque even if you add a little bit of water to thin them out a tiny bit. They dry extremely fast though, so even with water mixed in you have to work quickly. (To save time and paint I like to mix colors ahead of time and put them in tiny paint pots to store.) I love the fast dry time because I'm an impatient person.Dislikes: My one gripe with the paint themselves is that almost all the blues contain white pigment in them. The only blue paint that contains no white or black pigment is ultramarine blue. Aqua blue is just blue compose with more white. Cobalt blue hue is just ultramarine with white. I don't think this would be an issue for me while painting, but when compared to the vibrant reds and yellows, the blues are less saturated.I'm also not a big fan of the plastic tubes themselves, they feel kind of flimsy and cheap compared to other high-end brands. But considering the reasonable price I can't complain. (I like the lids though, they're easy to grip and don't hurt my fingers)Last thing, the box itself was only held shut by a plastic strip around it and all the paint tubes were jumbled around inside. It would be better if it were taped shut to ensure no paints could fall out accidentally.Anyway, nitpicks aside, I'm really happy with this purchase. Five stars :)

I found them great, smooth and no issues with the paints

Artist quality paint...strange descriptors to describe it for this product though.

I don't understand exactly what the intention is behind this product but it is not enjoyable at all. It has a very strange consistency and painting with these paints feels as if I were painting with dirt. I guess I am used to smooth paints. Won't be purchasing again, of course.

I suspect these tubes of paint froze and then thawed - it has the tell-tale sign which is a grainy consistency. I did order in early March and it was very cold. Or, they are just not a great brand of acrylic gouache. I used Holbein acryl in illustration which are very fluid and smooth. I do love the color sets Turner offers and might try them again - ordering in summer only.

The colors are nice. Before buying, however, you should be aware that the paint itself has a grainy texture and is more matt than brilliant in color. It can also be mixed with other acrylic gouache paints from other brands. Every color is different, but once you get used to the structure, it is easy to work with.

As a Painter, I keep researching high-quality art products, this is an excellent range of color hues, the colors are not stiff, nor runny, you can use them straight out of the tube, and they are at the higher end compared to competitors, but a 100% opaque and great for small draft sketches, drawings or final artwork. Really great Manga swatch of colors for real art professionals.

bizarre, chaque couleur laisse une texture de sable une fois sec, comme du papier de verre à gros grain ! pas très agréable, sauf peut être pour servir de sous-couche à un travail à la craie pastel tendre, là ok. Je suis déçu.Pourtant les autres boites "standard" de Arcyl gouache Turner n'ont ni la même texture et peuvent se mélanger facilement.Suis-je tombé sur une mauvaise fabrication ?
