Do i need to have a poe switch or poe injector to use this?

Yes, a PoE switch or injector is required to supply power

Has anyone been able to transmit data over this adapter? Reddit is mixed.

It's a wifi camera, so the adapter only powers it.

Does is transfer data and power or only power?

I believe it only transfers power, because the cameras they support are wifi only.
