Nothing fancy, just a great little machine.
After years of struggling to adjust the tension on our old Singer school model, I finally decided to try a new machine for a costume project. I ordered this Janome, based on the great reviews, and I am very pleased. Right out of the box, I filled a bobbin, threaded it, and tried a test stitch and it worked perfectly! The tension is very easy to adjust, and for everything I've tried, there's a wide range of settings where the stitches come out looking right. The foot pedal has a nice sensitivity, easy to go very slowly and then when you floor it, it sews quite fast. It doesn't have a lot of fancy stitches, but it does have all the basics, which is all that I wanted, so I'm delighted at the quality of machine I got for the money. I've used it for several projects, it has no trouble going through several layers of thick faux fur. All in all a good, reliable little machine.

Wow I'm impressed!
Wow I'm impressed! This is a lot more sewing machine than I needed; all I needed was a strong straight stitch machine for doing general repairs on shirts and blue jeans. It is super quiet and super smooth. As others have already said it worked fine right out of the box on the first two basic stitches; I did turn the tension know up one notch when I went to a wide stitch and zigzag. The reverse stitch is quick and easy. I'm not a tailor or anything like that but I have sewn a dress and done a lot of mending and sewing of clothes and car seat covers, motorcycle seat covers and what not and used a few different machines over the past 50 years and this one is a good as any. My machine came through Amazon from Daniel Levin Sales in Santa Clara, California and I can't say enough about the service. I live in South Korea and the machine was delivered in a week without any outrageous postage. Really great product and really great service. :)

Great machine to learn on and work with.
This manufacturer was recommended to me by a relative who works as a quilter. She said this machines does everything she wants it to and she can take it places as she can't with her professional machine. I am still learning on it but enjoy learning on it.

This is a great little machine
This is a great little machine. The only complaint I have is that there is no way to vary the stitch length. There are 3 built-in straight stitch lengths available, but there is very little difference among them. Otherwise, this is very sturdy machine with metal parts. It has a bobbin case that I find very easy to use, and the bobbin winding is much easier than in my more elaborate BabyLock. I bought this for my 8 year old grand-daughter. Speed control is all done with the foot pedal, so that will take some getting used to. The pedal is heavier and more substantial than it is on other "starter" machines, so I liked that right away. I'm glad I made this choice.

Very good basic machine...
I bought my Janome 2206 about a year ago, here on Amazon when the machine was a bit more expensive. A year later, I am most happy with the machine.... If you want bells and whistles, get a fancier machine, but if you want a reliable basic machine, this one is great.... I just hope it has a good shelf life, as it seems to no longer pay to get them repaired when you can buy a machine this inexpensive, that works fine...

The most important thing about a machine is the ability ...
The most important thing about a machine is the ability to get the stitch length you want....the presets on this machine are very small and large. Very disappointing.

will not sew velcro and fleece
I bought this machine to sew velcro onto fleece and it does not. Already had it serviced and it cost as much as the sewing machine. I wish I had not purchased this.

So far it's been great
I am someone who has sewn for years but just very basic mending or pillow making, nothing complicated. I got tired of my old machine with the very touchy tension. I was afraid to adjust it at all, the tiniest bump would make it go crazy. This machine is very basic, like me, and so far sews perfectly. I took a sewing class with it and had no problems.
