Great product!
Ordered this for Christmas last year for my daughter and so very skeptical. So skeptical even I got the largest protection package possible in case it tore up or broke. Her brother stole hers and she had been so heartbroken that I had to get her one. We have had now nearly a year and it works great. No problems at all. No scratches or problems with machine at all. Works great!

Great
So it had to boot in safe mode in order to install an update necessary to work, but now it's fine. The controller was in rough condition, but I bought another one and I'm still saving money. My son plays it for hours on end and it doesn't overheat or anything. Everything is great!

Buyer Beware
Buyer beware. When I purchased this console, it said in the description that it "shows limited or no wear, and includes all original accessories". I'm not sure who packed this up and sent it to me, but I'm not certain if they've ever seen a Playstation 4 before. If they did, they would know what it needs to function properly. Now, in an original Playstation 4 box, you get: The system The cables necessary for the system, including the power cable and an HDMI cable The controller, which contains a rechargable battery A USB cable that can be plugged into the controller and then into the PS4 console to charge it A Headset (which is more or less a little wire with a speaker and microphone on it, but it does its job). I'm not pulling this out of my rear-- it's listed in Amazon's own listing for the Playstation 4, as seen here: PlayStation 4 500GB Console - Call of Duty Black Ops III Bundle What I received when I ordered this was the following: The system, badly scratched The cables necessary for the system: an HDMI cable and power cable The controller, which looked as if a dog had chewed on it-- part of the thumbstick had been ripped completely off, leaving it very jagged ... And that was it. I didn't mourn the loss of the headset, because I never planned to use it, but the lack of a cable to charge the controller, which is necessary to use the system at all, was not included. As one may expect, this was a problem-- it essentially made the system unusable as it was delivered unless I purchased an additional charging cable and waited another few days for it to be delivered. So, considering that, the promises that this system "shows limited or no wear, and includes all original accessories", are both untrue. It seems from the other reviews that other people were luckier than I was. As it was, I returned this system and headed down to the store to pick up a new one rather than chance it again. Considering that these days, the price difference between a new console and a refurbished one is small enough to be negligible, I would recommend doing the same, if only to avoid the potential problems that come with buying a refurbished system.

Unit dead? Not sure, but it started working again!
Decided to buy a certified device with a 1 year warranty instead of a used machine (for $30 more) from a well-known Game store where you Stop in and buy devices and games. For the PS4 and an extra controller I saved over $70. Device came in a factory recertified box with manual, controller, power cord, and USB cord for charging the controller. It fired up at once, have not had any issues so far. And that's been a trial by fire with a 9 year old playing The Show for hours at a time. UPDATE: I wrote this review too soon. After my son came home today, the device would not stay powered on. Amazon is refunding the cost and I'll try a different unit ... UPDATE #2: When I went to try to back up my son's data to transfer to a new machine, it fired up again. I'm not sure if there was a software glitch that was causing the machine to not initialize, but it is working now. So I'm sticking with this one.

Arrived on time and works great. Could have used more documentation.
This was, believe it or not, the only PlayStation 4 console I found that wasn't bundled with a game I don''t want. Every other one I could find came with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, which is a sequel to three games I've never played. Most of them didn't even say they were bundles in the description, just had the game in the product picture and assumed that I was willing to pay for it to get the console. Props for not making people buy a game with this one. I live fairly close to an Amazon distribution center, so my purchases tend to arrive a couple of days earlier than the order tracker says they will. That happened here, as usual. Nothing wrong with the shipping time. Oddly, when the box arrived, I opened it to find another box inside, poorly secured and sliding around the larger box with only some big pieces of brown paper as padding. One has to wonder why the seller didn't just mail the smaller box, particularly as the contents of the smaller box were secured with well-fitted blocks of foam padding. I suppose Amazon has to have their logo visible, though. Maybe they should invest in Amazon-logo wrapping paper. Once I got the smaller box opened, the PlayStation 4 was easy enough to hook up to my television. One power cord to the electrical outlet, one HDMI cable to the TV, one USB cable to the PS4 controller to start the battery charging. Then the PS4 controller didn't turn on the PS4. Turns out the console ships with a controller that's not yet paired to it, and the USB ports are disabled when the console is off by default. (I changed that setting once I got it turned on.) I had to stick a Blu-Ray disc in the disc drive to make the console turn on. The only documentation that came with the PS4 was a safety manual and a little piece of card-stock paper that said that there was no headset included, so I had to figure that our through trial and error. Once I got the console to turn on, it immediately prompted me to pair the included controller, and everything has worked perfectly since. I ejected the Blu-Ray and inserted one of the games I ordered at the same time as the console (most of which arrived sooner) and played for about three hours with no problems. I did note that the Sony console refused to connect to my Sony Bluetooth headphones, but that's apparently a well-documented issue with all PlayStation 4 consoles rather than this one in particular as I found plenty of others talking about the same issue when I Googled it. Fortunately, I wasn't out an easy way to game at night, because the PS4 controller has a headphone jack on it. Some fiddling with the settings got the PS4 to output all sound through that headphone jack, I dug out my 3.5 mm cable that came with the Bluetooth headphones, and viola, effectively silent gaming enabled. Hopefully it also works for movies, as I haven't tried yet. You lose a star for not including a user's manual telling me how to turn on the console (for a while I thought I'd gotten a dud) and that silliness with the box-in-a-box. Four stars. Would buy again.
